I got a great cicada photo yesterday -cicada in flight. I love these noisy tiny jet engines and will miss themwhen they’re gone. I’ll be 82 in 17 years so, maybe? Sorry if it’s gigantic.
These last few weeks have been ridiculously stressful at work and then I came down with a killer cold this week. Two weeks ago my H innocently said he’d like to have a birthday party this weekend. I looked around our pandemic hovel and flipped out! Then, he told me he would basically be out of town/unavailable both weekends leading up to this weekend/the party. 😳
I came home from work yesterday and had to confirm that it was my correct address. He took the day off work and whipped this place in to shape! (We had been doing little bits at night, but I was seriously stressing as I have been so wiped out at night) There are a few little things to do today before the party tomorrow, but he really took control and made sure shit got done! It’s times like this when I realize gifts of service are so my love language!! Now to keep the 7 year old in a bubble until tomorrow night...
Planning to take the kids to the pool this afternoon and hoping it's not too crowded. First time this year so I need to get all of the stuff packed up for it, ugh.
Random: My cat has a lot of long, fluffy hair. He gets really hot in the summer, he sheds a ton and he gets matted. I am very good about brushing him daily, but I cannot keep up in the summer.
I usually pay $65 plus tip every summer to get him shaved down. I decided to buy my own clippers and do it myself this year. I cannot stop laughing at how funny/cute he looks! I didn't shave him as much as a groomer would, but I think he is comfy.

David’s baseball pics are today. Luckily they’re before the game, but not so luckily, he’s getting his hair cut tomorrow. I forgot, damnit. But hopefully they’ll be better than last year, when he got a bug bite on his already adorably big old ear. The hat made it stick out almost parallel with the floor 💕💕
We're in a record-breaking heatwave here, and DS 2's last soccer game of the season doesn't start until 1:00. I already told my parents not to come--it's going to be over 100 and there is no shade anywhere on the sidelines.
Afterwards we're hosting a water fun playdate with one of his BFFs, so I need to blow up our wading pool and buy some fruit to cut up for snacks. This is the first time he'll have a friend over since the pandemic started, and I really want them to stay outside if at all possible.
Tomorrow my sister and nephews are going to come over for awhile, bt otherwise I plan to do as little as possible. Yesterday was the last day of teacher post-planning for the year, and I am ready to take at least a few days fully off from adulting before diving into a summer that's turning out to be really full of professional development.
I think the cicadas are interesting, but I will be glad to see them leave. Currently they are flying everywhere, which makes me not really want to be outside much. It is supposed to be hot this weekend anyway, but this morning i would probably be sitting on my deck if not for the fact that I would be having large bugs flying into me constantly. My cat is quite entertained, though.
No plans today so i would like to get some crap done. The car needs an oil change and there are a number of things around the house that need doing. I am doing brunch and other errands tomorrow so I am guessing anything I don't do today won't get done this weekend.
I’m taking Stella for her monthly anal gland expression at the vet today and she also needs a nail trim this time which means an extra dose of trazodone so she doesn’t SHIT HERSELF on the table.
Donny is sick again. We have no idea why. He’s only slightly less energetic than usual, but is having kind of frequent diarrhea and vomited once yesterday. The same thing happened Monday, but he was 100% fine in between. We’re going to only feed him chicken, rice & cottage cheese for supper. If it continues into tomorrow or happens again in a few days I guess we’re doing a vet visit. He also has a bump on his nose that doesn’t seem to bother him, but what the hell? He also had a bigger lump on his hip for awhile about 6 months ago that eventually went away and the vet wasn’t worried about it, but lord. He’s so high maintenance lol.

I’m at the dealership getting some service done on my car.
The waiting area now has leather recliners. I have a book, my coffee, HGTV on the TV, and a recliner. H is home with both kids. They’re going to have to physically remove me from this waiting room.

Man, I'd be sure to tell the mechanic to feel free to bump me down the worklist!

That’s what it’s like when I take DH’s car to the dealership. He went with me the last time and was completely unimpressed!! Leather chairs, snacks, peace & quiet??? What’s wrong with you, man?

I actually added the 15k service. It was just supposed to be a recall fix and an oil change. 😂
I’m feeling so down about my weight and lack of working out, but to be honest, in the past year I got divorced and was diagnosed with: migraines, psoriasis and esophageal spasms...and I sort of feel like crap a lot! I know eating better and exercising will make me feel better but jeez. It’s been rough to get started! I know nobody here is judging me-ha, but I feel defensive out in the world.
My kid was a mess about 18 hours after his second shot, but he was good to go after less than a day of feeling like crap.

My (3.5 year old) phone totally died on Tuesday night - turned off randomly and never turned on again - so I got a new one on Wednesday with basically no research. So far I like it in a lot of ways, but I can't get my notification settings quite how I want them, and it's driving me irrationally crazy.

I didn’t want to threadjack the pizza thread, but we went to a birthday party for a 5 year old yesterday. Otoh, I’m thrilled because my kids had a great time, but the party was from 5-8 on a Friday. They invited a million people. There were about 20 kids and lots of adults because it included family. It was at a park. In the south. Hot and humid as blazes and they served - Pizza, chips, soda, juice boxes (one per child) , shaved ices, and cake. Apparently, there was water, but it ran out. Thankfully, I had brought my own water bottle which got me through, but really??!! It’s 88 degrees and like 80% humidity, have water!!! And my favorite was that they had a cake, but it was just for singing and for the hosts’ children and the adults. The other kids all got one of those supermarket mini cupcakes. But, shocker, most adults didn’t want the pink and purple mermaid cake and so there was a bunch left over after kids who had asked for some we’re only given a mini cupcake. I know I’m ranting, but the whole thing just felt inhospitable. But like I said, my kids had a great time and their only complaint was that they weren’t allowed to have cake.
Uber Eats is so ridiculously overpriced. They sent me a code for $20 off $25 so I decided to order lunch. My order was just over $25 but with all the taxes, fees, and tip I am still paying $13. Overall, it is a good deal but no way would I order without the promo code.
We went to Vegas last week for 4 days and my cats are still recovering from our absence despite the fact that the neighbor girl came over and spent time with them every day. They are so spoiled. H is supposed to go back to the office a few days a week starting in September and I don't know how they will handle it.
It's so hot this weekend so we got out the ridiculous big blow up pool thing we have and invited our friends and their kid over to play this morning. We had lunch and mimosas and the kids just ran around like crazy. It was a lot of fun but now I'm exhausted and probably need to chug some water! Thank goodness for nap time.
Tomorrow we're probably all going to a splash pad for a repeat of today. It's too hot to do much that's not water related.
Has anyone tried the magnetic fake lashes? I’m so tempted, but I worry they will suck.
I have and they were fine. They were pretty cheap from Target so it was worth a try. Once I got them on they looked nice but it took me a really long time to get them close enough the the base of my lashes. This is probably user error and if I was dedicated enough to try it more regularly I’m sure it would get easier and faster.
My husband helped a friend divide some bulbs at his house and came home with a HUGE bag of saffron crocus bulbs!! So excited. Saffron everything this fall. (hopefully)
cricketwife omg I'm dying at not letting the kids have cake, but letting the adults. How would that thought even cross someone's mind?! Lol.
I'm currently laying in bed. I was exhausted so my husband got up with the toddler, but that of course woke me up. I should do some laundry today then idk what else!
We got DS his sports physical today for next school year. It’s so weird that I have an almost sophomore in high school. It is also weird to me that he wants to play football. I swore that I wouldn’t let my kids play football and here we are. He’s my little baby that didn’t make a basket his entire basketball season in fourth grade because he didn’t want to bump in to people and hurt them or himself. Now he talks about “pancaking” people and how much he can deadlift.
He didn’t play until this year and it was only four games with 2.5 weeks of practice but he loved it. I think the whole pandemic and distance learning thing wore me down. He was so desperate to see people since he had been home for almost a year. When he randomly asked if he could participate when they started in March I said yes without reservation. It was a few days a week for a couple hours, beautiful spring weather, smaller teams due to covid regs., no traveling, etc. It was ideal as far as a football season goes.
Now, he’s getting ready for the longest season ever with no break. They only had a week and a half off between the season ending and weight training starting for next year. They will have no time off this summer (usually they take the first three weeks of July off) because our school year was dumped back. They aren’t out until next week and roll right in to summer practices. In late July they start 2-a-day practices. Somehow he still loves it.
I also have to admit that I have basically gone from the “Never!” team to buying all the swag and volunteering to be a team mom. Life’s weird, man.
I finally decide to grow some things from seeds as something to do with my kid. Got all the potting soil, whatever else you put in there, a covered container garden, stakes. Shit was looking beautiful. Pea plants flowering, tomatoes flourishing...life was good.
A stupid, stupid animal destroyed it and this is why Oreos are better than vegetables. I hate gardening.
