Sitting at DD's tennis camp. This is at a park. I expect kids running, playing, laughing.....I do not expect the kid at the picnic table next to me playing drums on the picnic table with a stick. Good grief, Mom just picked up a stick and is matching her daughter's beats.

My office is slowly working through the 2000s playlists on Spotify. We were supposed to do 2012, but today we reverted to the 90s and were rewarded. Currently belting "I Swear" by All-4-One.

Fucking what? The girl walked away, I thought to play....nope. she is back with a pile of sticks. Mom: "Those will all have a different sound." Now her daughter is playing each stick and Mom is commenting "Oh, that one sounds deeper." They are all fucking loud ass sticks. Think of others not wanting to hear all this banging you Assholes! I want to watch my daughter without getting a headache. There is a playground for bored kids over there.

We had to fly. My general advice if you plan to fly this summer is lower your expectations on service. And be much more prepared for worst case scenarios. And I am not saying this in a snotty way. Just expect things to be more stressful than usual. We flew AA. I knew they weren't selling alcohol, nbd. But they also aren't selling snacks for purchase. Many places in airports also are offering minimal service. Stores are closed. Food stations are closed or very limited. We laughed because all of these vending machines we would pass in multiple airports were basically empty. We had a four hour flight over lunch so we had to be very strategic on finding food. And our layovers always had very long lines for food.
My kids have bad motion sickness and we only had 1 flight out of 4 that someone didn't get sick. So that just added to the stress of it all. This is the first time this has happened so I was dumb and didn't pack extra clothes in our carry on. My poor little one got sick on himself on a landing. There was no where to buy any replacement clothes in DFW. So I had to rinse his shorts out in a sink and he had to wear soggy shorts for the last flight. Stuff like that. Also because we have never dealt with vomiting on a flight I was surprised at how hands off and unhelpful the flight attendants were. I don't know if that was covid or what. Like we let them know what happened and they were basically like, shrug? Didn't offer us any wipes or anything. It was a bit demoralizing.
ANYWAYS, it was still an amazing trip. I certainly didn't expect everything to be perfect travel wise, but this was really much rougher than I expected.
Do you need a hug, maudefindlay ? Maybe it will muffle out the "drums". LOL
After 5 years of ugly/hot polo collars and boring colors, I think we're actually going to get rid of our public school "uniforms". I am so happy about it! I mean, we won't have mandatory masks, we won't have distancing, and while my kids will have vaccines (ASAP for DD), most kids will not be vaccinated. So everything sucks.
But having t-shirts back? That would be awesome.
ETA: This sounds sarcastic- haha- I am really super happy about this- we all hate the polos so, so much.

This makes me feel better about turning down a flight this week. DH has a job interview on Friday that is a six hour car ride from us. They offered to fly us but I had a feeling that everything would be more difficult and it probably wouldn’t save us all that much time. Also, Yay! for DH being back in the swing of job interviews. It’s been a long time since we’ve been able to do an on-site interview.

The archery tournament was hot, but overall went super well. Except yesterday morning I locked my keys in my car as soon as I got there. I threw my keys in my bag per normal, but then decided my bag weight 1 million pounds, so I was going to walk around to the passenger side to get it. As soon as I closed the drivers door I knew exactly what I'd done. A guy made a couple calls to locksmiths for me, but no one answered. So another guy said he could open it, and everyone went looking for what could be used. 10 minutes later, using a hot dog roasting stick, they had my car open. I really do love my archery family.

I'm legit over adulting today. I had to make 3 medical appointments, which ended up being one additional, b/c I can't get the screening order w/o being seen for my annual visit. Plus the dog groomer (and I have to get records from the vet), plus find out WTF is going on with the garbage/recycle/yard waste pickups (that office was most unhelpful). Add that to my car being in the shop (AGAIN) and if they can't fix the roof on my convertible (it's leaking, it won't fully engage with the locking mechanism, it stops about a 1/4" from the port), I have to get a new car--to replace the hardtop retractable roof is $8K and I can't fathom paying that (and I'm sad--I love that damn car and there isn't a comparable one on the market).

I saw my dad for the first time in about 2 years yesterday. Old and grumpy, some things never change! But it was good to see him. He visited after I had my son in 2019, and then, through bad luck and covid, didn't get to see us for another 2 years. My son warmed up quickly to him, which tickled him a bunch. They look a lot alike. My H took a funny picture of them sitting together on the couch, both looking grumpy.
DD started a week-long Girl Scout day camp today. She did a 100% virtual year, so she was on Cloud 9 getting checked in this morning. She even smiled during the lice check, lol.

I just had my first flights since covid. Flight was fine, but holy hell the airport. Agree - several restaurants/food places closed. 50 minute wait for a cab. The train platform was packed (which it *never* is.) And I sat in traffic at 10pm last night. I'll be pre-arranging a ride home from the airport next time at least. At least it wasn't winter, I guess? LOL.
I am feeling really good about taking today off as just a catch up day from being OOT visiting family. I've caught up on all the laundry, been to Costco and the grocery store. Eating lunch now and then a workout, and then we'll head to the pool late afternoon in between the daytime crowd and the evening people when it's less busy.
Also found out late last week while I was gone that the program I'm working on is likely not going to make it into the budget going forward, and I'm kind of not mad about it? We'll probably finish up what we've already contracted for and close things out, so that's 9-12 months of stuff, and we won't have to do any of the more challenging stuff that would have been the next step. After that, I know there will be other work for me, but I'm thinking this would be a good time to see what else is out there. I've got some very in-demand certifications, and I'm pretty sure I could easily get hired elsewhere, just have to figure out where I'd LIKE to go.

Damn, good to know. I'm sorry, that all sounds super stressful. I'm bummed because my favorite past time is airport drinking and it looks like I won't be able to do that on our trip next month, lol. Oh well.
The airports were really busy when I flew last night, too. It made me kind of uncomfortable, even though I am generally cool with activities and being around people since being vaccinated, having that many people in close proximity - and so many masks under noses - made me wonder how much COVID was circulating in the air. The security line at O'Hare was in this tiny, low ceiling area that seemed to have little chance of having proper air circulation, and the line was slow. And I was shocked to see so many people at BWI at 8:30 on a Sunday night, waiting to fly out. Where are they all going at that hour?
I am glad to be back home. I had a nice visit with my grandma this weekend, but 48 hours was plenty of time sitting in her apartment chatting about the same things over and over again. I was glad to be able to keep her company, but it was kind of exhausting too. I felt bad feeling that way though. It's not her fault at all.
I have a pelvic MRI tonight and I'm not looking forward to that. I had a dream last night that I had to have surgery to have one of my ovaries removed, so let's hope it was not a premonition. I mean that wouldn't be the end of the world, I guess, if it meant that nothing else was wrong or needed doing. But I'd still rather not.

Airports themselves are still serving booze. Never fear. AA and SW both announced they wouldn't serve alcohol on the airplane until Sept I think.

We had everything. sob
We are not unfamiliar with motion sickness. It was just really bad this time for whatever reason. We have dramamine, sea bands, those funny looking glasses etc.
I've flown twice since April and both times it was more crowded than I was expecting. We're flying again next Friday and I'm expecting it to be even worse since it's a holiday weekend.
I read a really good book over the weekend, The End of Men by Christina Sweeney-Baird. It's about a highly deadly disease that breaks out and only affects men (although women are carriers). Most of the book takes place in the first year of the outbreak and it's eerie how there are some similarities to the reaction to Covid. She finished her first draft in June 2019 so it wasn't like she was inspired by Covid. I also thought it was really interesting how the world adjusted to one of mostly women. Anyway, if you like dystopian future novels, especially origin stories, I highly recommend this one.

Our dog started limping Sat. night and not wanting to put her paw down. Took her to the vet and it appears she was stung by a bee or some sort of insect underneath her paw. Poor girl. She is already on allergy meds, which the vet thinks kept any swelling down. Now she is on the GOOD pain pills for a week and has to rest - no walks, which she will hate.
We leave for our road trip in three weeks and I'm getting so excited to get out of my state lol!

My kid puked on a flight pre-covid and they were hands off then too. I was a bit surprised.
I’ve had a real run of good luck finding furniture on Facebook marketplace despite my hatred of Facebook. My husband has been highly impressed. Then I mentioned that I saw something on Craigslist and had emailed someone about it and he acted like Craigslist was like asking to be murdered. I don’t think it’s that much different? Are people posting say, an old craft item trying to lure in people to kill?
It’s actually chilly here today, I’m wearing leggings and a sweatshirt! I ran errands this morning and I’m meeting a friend for a walk in a bit. Our boys are at camp this week and it looks like it’s cold up there too, not even 50* yet!
Maybe I’m an asshole too, because I would totally let my kid bang sticks on a table at the park. It’s a park, not a library. I wouldn’t let her hit hard enough to dent the table, but I wouldn’t be worrying about being quiet at the park. 🤷🏻♀️
Fair enough. I wouldn't let my kids as it was in the only place to sit by the tennis courts and other parents and kids were there and she was banging a table. Bang two sticks together okay, beat on a table, nope.

What kind of table is it? I'm picturing a wooden picnic table and I just can't imagine sticks making that much noise. Even those metal ones with holes don't seem like they'd make THAT much noise outside.
