Someone at my office literally just used me as an example in a hallway conversation of wearing a style of pants that no one wears anymore. OMG. I don't think she meant to be offensive, I was right there as part of the conversation and she's usually very kind.
I need a daily work black pant that apparently is shorter than what I've been wearing -- so like ankle. I've been wearing (don't shame me) Express Editor Barely Boot in black for like a decade. What can I wear instead? It's a relatively dressy environment but now that i'm looking around in my current meeting, women are in ankle and capri pants even with suit jackets.

Personally I hate that ankle length. At least with a real Capri you can tell the look is purposeful but with ankle length they just look like a bad hem job. Keep wearing those boot cuts with pride and comfort. (Do not me defending ankle length. Wearers can wear them with pride and comfort, too. I’m not gonna tho.) AND YOU’RE WEARING PERFECTLY NORMAL PANTS. CLASSIC, EVEN.
I guess I'm out of style, too. I like bootcut pants that are a bit longer. I wear them with heels - I'm short and this is the style that's flattering on me. F her, since when is she the fashion police? If you like it, then that's all that should matter. She's rude and her comments were uncalled for.
Ignore her, she’s dumb. Express still sells the editor pants so that can’t be that out of style. I’d actually prefer that for a business environment. I tend to shy away from ankle length for anything dressier because my stubby little legs and wider hips make it difficult to find any that are flattering. It’s fine for jeans or something casual but that style would be a hard find for me personally and I doubt I’m the only one. It looks great on a lot of people but I’m okay with it not working for me.
Honestly, it makes the coworker sound fashion dumb. Gen Z makes fun of skinny pants (not that I care, they can rip them off my cold dead skinny pant clad legs), but straight and boot cut are back in a BIG way.
I just googled those pants and they look totally fine. I would say they are in no way out of style or innapropriate, but they aren’t “trendy”. (Which, we don’t always need to be trendy!) You should wear what you are comfortable in and like and eff her.
If, aside from bitchy comments, you were already thinking you felt like shopping and wanted some trendy pieces it’s super easy to find ankle or crop pants right now. Banana has a lot of options. I love crop flares and am wearing those a lot lately but I don’t know how those would do with a jacket.

ohgillian tell CW that you went shopping and asked for pants like hers from the 25 year old retail worker and they said "oh NOBODY is wearing those!" and handed you a pair of pants exactly like the ones you already have. <hair flip>
I hate the phrase "no one wears X." Clearly, if I'm wearing them, then someone wears them. I admit, I don't keep with fashion and just wear what I continue to like.
Do you like the pants you currently wear? That's always my measure.

Also, mom jeans are trendy right now. It’s not always good to be trendy lol
My 18 year old niece looks like she took a Delorean back to 1993 and robbed my closet. Sorry kids, I was there for the first go round of those fugly jeans and I'm not doing it again.
That is ridiculous! I admire anyone wearing pants at all right now. I have to back to the office in August and am mourning the loss of my legging and sundress life.
Once, I had this blue t-shirt I really liked that had a pretty distinctive detail on it - it's kind of hard to describe, but think like instead of having a couple of little decorative buttons on the front, it had decorative laces, sort of like skinny shoe laces (it was the early 2000s). Some poor unsuspecting soul on What Not to Wear was wearing that exact same shirt during the hidden footage portion of the show and I felt so bad about the shitty things Stacy London and Clinton Kelly were saying that I ended up donating it even though I wore it all the time.
Another time I had this sweater that I only wore occasionally because while it was soft and comfortable, I didn't actually think it was that flattering on me. Then one day a woman at work that I really kind of hated complimented me on it, and that was enough to push me over the edge and donate it (no regrets, LOL!).
I'm trying to figure out how this was said in a way that's not offensive? Wear what you like. As someone else said they might not be what is trendy right now but that doesn't make them outdated.
