I'm glad that they put in the IKEA pantry around the fridge because that seemed like a bunch of BS to have a couple of shelves. Most of their dish storage is across the room from the dishwasher? No wine glasses? And they don't have any appliances aside from a toaster and microwave? I know I'm probably the extreme opposite but it just seems odd. lol
I'm probably just jealous.
I was telling DH that I could easily get rid of our oven in the LB condo. It's tiny and gets so hot in there that we really only used the toaster oven or air fryer 90% of the time we cooked. On humid days? Forget it- postmates or take away. Until we got the nespresso, we would cold brew and didn't own a coffee maker. I did miss having pantry storage but again, didn't really cook so wasn't a big deal. Also didn't need space for serving ware or more than 4 glasses of each kind since we never had anyone over.
In Denver, I LOVE cooking and use our stove all the time. I need all the storage since we entertain here regularly.
Didn’t she have her bottle tree collection in a kitchen cabinet in one house? I think they just heat up food or get take out.
Or drink coffee! I don't really follow them but read this post. She says "we tend to gather in here when someone’s cooking or when friends drop in for a coffee or a drink." I thought "But you have like 4 glasses and no coffee maker, but okay."
I guess with all those home projects they don't have time to cook.
I think they aren’t interested in food and/or have some food/eating issues. The “recipes” and “meals” she shares on Instagram are often very odd and she’s done some very restrictive diets before.
She’s talked about eating really bare bones meals to save money over the years
Not having appliances like blenders, slow cookers or coffee machines and storing non food items in kitchen cabinets which is odd IMO for a couple who also seems to make 99% of their meals at home.
I grew up in a house with cedar siding and my parents always commented on how big of a pain it was. I love the lighter color they chose. My house was close to their original color.
Mine too - we've had to paint it multiple times and my father used to hand scrub the exterior every year. The maintenance on that white house is going to be brutal. Ditto the outdoor spaces
What sort of maintenance do white houses have that other painted houses not have?

Their blog post on how they organize and store everything in their kitchen says they cook almost every meal at home, and that was before they added the Ikea cabinet. Of course their definition of "cook" might be different lol.
I love the house. I like the look of the all white even though it would never work for us, and I couldn't pull it off anyway (not without a professional decorator).
I think they are reheaters of frozen food and make very low effort meals like pasta and jarred sauce the majority of the time. She talks about how they don’t have even very basic kitchen appliances or many pots/pans/baking dishes a lot. That is not the sign of people who like food. The meals and diets she shares on Instagram are always a little strange.
It’s easy to keep your kitchen clean when your dinner is a unseasoned can of tuna lol

I think the eating at home is since Covid, prior to that they ate out a lot and their home meals even now do not involve much cooking. Sherry ears lots of cheese and shrimp.
Also, wasn't one of the draws of the house was that they could walk to a ton of different restaurants?
I wouldn't be able to be happy in a kitchen devoid of hundreds of single use kitchen appliances, but they seem to function in their minimalist kitchen. (I need my ice cream maker that I only use once every year.)

We painted our house white and the dirt shows in a different way - it's crazy. Our old house was blue and I feel like we never had this problem.
I started following them on Instagram after the last big thread and I hate them for making me want to move to Florida. Lol. Honestly I could absolutely picture myself incredibly happy living somewhere like that- walkable to the beach? Restaurants? Cute ice cream places? Tiny house with less crap and cleaning? Sign me all the way up.

White just shows a lot of sins that beige or other house colors can hide a bit better/longer. And in a climate like that with all those trees overhanging, washing and cleaning the house is probably a necessity every year. The paint should be of high enough quality that it doesn't yellow, though I've had some exterior paint yellow. Also, if they used a lot of white caulk and didn't adequately prime or paint it (which my porch contractor did), I have 1,000+ nail holes that are now mildewing - again if it were beige it wouldn't be as noticeable. I can't recall if they had exterior white risers, but I regret that decision too. I have a lot of trees and landscaping and within a day of powerwashing and cleaning those risers start to look dirty.

You can definitely cook a lot of stuff at home without wine glasses, an insta pot and a blender lol. I don't know what Sherry cooks, but I know what I cook and we have these things and they are dust collecting clutter items I'd happily sell. Not kitchen essentials.

If I could move that house to a mountain town by a lake, it'd be my happy place. I hate humidity and Florida overall.
I have followed them for a really long time and still stand behind the thoughts from the previous post about their downstairs family room. It just seems like it's not functional for a family of 4. It looks so uncomfortable. Sherry seemed like she spent *a lot* of time trying to convince everyone how great their set-up is, almost like she is in denial or something.
I agree the house has some really nice parts to it, especially the backyard and pool. I don’t like how little storage it offers and the living room isn’t great. However they had to sacrifice to be close to the beach which I fully understand and appreciate. I think they will move out sooner rather than later to something bigger and better but I could be wrong. I hope the podcast comes back soon.

I live in Florida and believe me when I say it is not all sunshine and rainbows. BUT they do live in a very spectacular area of Florida. And expensive. It blows my mind how much cheaper it was here "back in the day" Florida beaches are the best on the west side, I hate east coast beaches.

To each their own. I like my ocean in motion not like a still water pond 😉
Santa Rosa is indeed beautiful, but it’s every bit as humid and hot AF as the rest of us all summer.

I just realized that I "only" have a French press, a Clever coffee maker, and a cold brew filter now. My coffee maker died on the first day of the shutdown last year, otherwise I'd have that too. In the past few days I've given away 4 sets of mixing bowls. I might have a problem. lol

Yes! She tried really hard to convince readers that their old pantry (the 2 IKEA shelves with drawers) were perfect for them but now they have the bigger built ins around the fridge?

Sherry has a really hard time with any sort of criticism or questions about what they're doing, so she spends a lot of time defending their decisions instead of being open about the process along the way. I'm sure it's hard to constantly be faced with questions, but it seems like it is the nature of having a home improvement blog/IG. There have been a lot of things about this house that seem like it's really not a good fit for them, but all she talks about is how it's perfect for what they need. You cannot convince me that a family of 4 just thinks it's NBD to have to store their shoes in a coffee table, lol.
The house looks beautiful and it is a stunning makeover so far. It would be SO much better if they just said this house is going to eventually turn into a rental or a flip, so they're making it work for them for the time being.
