They've posted a house update and it is simply delightful. I love the simple, bright and modern touches (even with the kitchen countertops) and the pool is gorgeous.
I have really enjoyed watching them work on this house and hearing some of their thought changes along the way. Specifically that they haven't hated sharing 1 bathroom and that the guest room doesn't feel necessary right now so both have moved down the priority list.
I live in a 2 bed/1 bath, 1150 sq/ft house and we got so many "I just couldn't!" comments when we bought. It's nice seeing a blogger normalize smaller houses without it being a tiny house type situation. Not all of us want/need a larger house.
My big comment is I would have left a screened in porch, especially when you live in a buggy location like FL. Overall, I think it is really lovely. I also would have ceiling fans in the bedrooms, but that is me.
I’m curious when they say they moved to spend more time outside - are they not bothered by the heat? I know my inlaws in FL feel like they can’t be outside for a good chunk of the year because it’s just too hot.

I’m with you but I’ve got ILs in SFL that live outside year round. One household doesn’t even have ac. They claim “you get used to it” but I lived in FL for decades and….no.

I can’t say I’m a fan of them, but this was a really cool house to renovate and they mostly did a great job. They kept some of the best unique elements, while improving the blah or gross spaces. I would have kept some outdoor part a screened-in porch though. I hate that they painted so much of the exterior all white. I think the large light fixture in the lower part of the family room is too big for that part of the space. I love the kids rooms and outdoor shower!

I love/like YHL. I've been a blog reader since the very beginning. I really liked their podcast though and miss it. This house is cute and I love the pool area and the porch up in the trees. Their small backyard they did at their pink house was great too.
Wow! This confirms I will never do a full reno on a house - I did not see ANY of that potential in the original house. They did an awesome job and I'd totally live there.
I think they’ve made some great updates, and will continue to update. The sitting room downstairs still feels like a waiting room and I’m convinced they don’t like comfy couches, but what an improvement!
I started following them again after the mega thread here when they moved. I thought the house was great when they got it, and they've only made it better.
As far as being outside, I'm consistently "outside" in my 3 season room all day and it gets 90 degrees in there. It's fine. I don't have the humidity of FL though.

They’re truly coastal Florida (like, can walk to a white sand turquoise water beach) which I think feels different than central Florida swamp heat.
I'm glad that they put in the IKEA pantry around the fridge because that seemed like a bunch of BS to have a couple of shelves. Most of their dish storage is across the room from the dishwasher? No wine glasses? And they don't have any appliances aside from a toaster and microwave? I know I'm probably the extreme opposite but it just seems odd. lol

I'm probably just jealous.
The pantry was a huge improvement. I had a feeling they would do that and move the shelves eventually, but I like that they are normalizing "use what you have" rather than this mindset to spend money immediately to fix a problem. Living with the issue for a while usually creates a better solution.
Neither of them really drink alcohol and they have some cute tumblers that would work fine for wine. I do drink and we didn't have wine glasses for years because our apartment kitchen storage was so tiny. We had 6 basic tumblers and that was it. Beer, whiskey, wine, pop, water... it all tasted fine They also don't cook much so appliances probably aren't a huge priority for them. Again, I like that they are normalizing solutions that work for each specific family. Why have a huge kitchen with all the gadgets if it's not something you'll use?

I don’t think they really cook. Or drink alcohol.
Didn’t she have her bottle tree collection in a kitchen cabinet in one house? I think they just heat up food or get take out.

Yeah- I agree and they came up with an awesome solution. But going from what was there to the interim solution seemed odd. And the old pantry drawers weren't big enough for a bag of chips. #priorities
I tried using regular glasses for wine but then ended up pouring *giant* glasses, even by my standards. I got rid of a lot of my glassware and now use stemless wine glasses for a lot of things since I had problems trying the other way. lol

Or drink coffee! I don't really follow them but read this post. She says "we tend to gather in here when someone’s cooking or when friends drop in for a coffee or a drink." I thought "But you have like 4 glasses and no coffee maker, but okay."
I guess with all those home projects they don't have time to cook.
I am convinced that none of them are bug magnets (like me), which is why the ceiling fan thing works for them.
We have two ceiling fans on our covered porch, and the mosquitos seem to like to hang around on the porch as much as anywhere.
This house is so much more my style than any of their other houses, and it seems like a great fit for them.
It's too much white for me to live in, but I think they did a great job getting the Scandinavian modern (or whatever it was) look they were going for. I like what they did with the kids rooms, especially the ceilings.
I am not quite sure about the outdoor spaces. I like them, but I can't quite picture where everything is and how it looks from the house or street.
The kitchen would only work for us if we were renting the house for a week or something, but it does seem to suit their lifestyle well.
I don't understand that desk setup. I could not possibly work that closely next to someone and if my kids sat that closely for online learning there would be an inevitable slap fight.
Overall, I like it but would have kept the screened in porch.

I don’t follow them but the house is pretty!
I grew up in a house with cedar siding and my parents always commented on how big of a pain it was. I love the lighter color they chose. My house was close to their original color.

The kids both have desks in their rooms now, so I doubt they use that elbow to elbow set up anymore. I wonder if John and Sherry use the desks upstairs now for themselves, otherwise that is too many desks.

I've liked them a lot more since they stopped blogging full time. I think it's because now they're doing projects that are focused on actually making their home work for them, versus just making content to post.

Mine too - we've had to paint it multiple times and my father used to hand scrub the exterior every year. The maintenance on that white house is going to be brutal. Ditto the outdoor spaces

Their blog post on how they organize and store everything in their kitchen says they cook almost every meal at home, and that was before they added the Ikea cabinet. Of course their definition of "cook" might be different lol.
I love the house. I like the look of the all white even though it would never work for us, and I couldn't pull it off anyway (not without a professional decorator).
