I have mixed feelings about the Lume. It works well for me, until it doesn't. I'll go from smelling like nothing to smelling like BO pretty quick. I'm not sure if it's an application thing or not. It definitely doesn't last 72 hours for me, but I'm a stinky mess so I guess that's not surprising. I just ran out of the stick and I'm not sure if I'm going to buy more - it didn't seem that much drastically better for the price.
I do, however, like the gel stuff for my "lady bits" (their words, not what I normally would call them...). I have noticed a huge improvement there. I will keep using it for that for sure.
I don't know how to explain the "funk" from the deodorant itself. I don't think it smells bad, it just doesn't smell like your standard deodorant or like the scent that the tub is labeled.
What do you all mean by "funk"? Does the deodorant itself smell bad at first?
I get more sweaty than smelly, so I don't know if that's right for me, but it might work for DD.
I got the unscented, so it's not even the essential oils for me. It just smells...funky. it it actually smells similar to how some vit c facial skincare products smell weird*. which would track, since the second ingredient is mandelic acid? Maybe acids just smell weird.

Yeah, it's almost like a citrusy/acidic smell, but bad. I started with the Twisted Lime and hoped it was just that I had chosen a weird scent, but the Lavender Sage has the same thing going on. I hear the spruce is a bit better, but also a touch masculine.
Anyway, I just walk to a corner of my room and try not to breathe too much when I put it on, lol. Also I try to use the smallest amount. Once it dries, in like 30 seconds, you don’t really smell it anymore and it works - you just smell like nothing. Honestly, I’ve been a lifelong user of secret (regular solid stick, powder fresh) and if I use it now it seems really waxy and thick compared to the lume.
Apparently Dax Shepard and Kristen Bell share the same sentiments.
Isn’t that how it came up? I thought thit origins of this whole thing were that Ashton was on Dax’s show and they were talking about their kids bathing regularity.

Yes, it's the source of all this. LOL!
Yes, sorry sorry! I was doing too many things at once! I was reading about Jake Gyllenhal (sp), and my brain scrambled. Lol
I'm just coming in to say, as a microbiologist, your skin does NOT clean itself.
Not clean no, but isn’t there some evidence that a healthy skin biome is a defense against some of the stink-causing bacteria?
I was thinking about this. I grew up with dry heat, and I don’t think I scrubbed much more against stink, but the sweat dried pretty much instantly if I was outside. It’s more humid up here, but not like the South. I’m wondering if that’s part of the different reactions, not just our personal chemistry.

That may be true, and I was kinda just being flippant / annoyed with celebrities (I have no real personal opinion about how much people bathe), but I can tell you when we plate washed bodies vs. unwashed bodies, there's a big difference. And not all the bacteria that grows is good.
This is totally going to end up being 8 pages of everyone sharing their bathing rituals and falling over themselves to say that they don't judge anyone else's.
Regardless Mila grew up in the Ukraine to Ukrainian parents so it generally tracks with the broad categorization of American vs European approaches to these habits.
Smelly European 4 Life right here.
I think I should get to count the 26 (and rising replies) on ML ....
