Happy finally Friday!
I just started "The Perfect Ruin" which I can't wait to read more, although it's sort of similiar to another book I won't say for fear of spoilers
and "Surprise Me", although that one isn't as good, even with audio.
QOTW: I like most things pumpkin, although I'm not a big fan of pumpkin pie. I really absolutely can't stand when pumpkin is out in August. I'm sorry but I need summer until September, and then pumpkin in October. I'm pretty alone in this IRL.
I finished The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers, which was very fun. Now I think I’m starting In My Dreams I Hold a Knife. I was on the library wait list and I can’t remember what made me request it. ETA: should not have requested that one — quick realization that it’s a DNF for me. I think thrillers and I just don’t get along. Now trying For the Wolf by Hannah Whitten (YAish fantasy).
QOTW: I like pumpkin but I think we’ve gone a little crazy with it. It was more interesting when it was not pumpkin spice everywhere and everything. (And it comes too early — I definitely agree with that!)

Current read is Fire Keeper's Daughter. I'm enjoying it!
Pumpkin spice is just ok. I finally had a PSL a few years ago (though Peet's, not Starbucks) and it was fine but not amazing or anything. I do really like the pumpkin spice Blizzard however 😁
I am currently reading Survive the Night by Riley Sager.
QOTW: I like pumpkin spiced baked goods, especially muffins. I hate pumpkin pie and I don't like pumpkin anything until it starts to feel like Fall outside. It's still too hot so it's too early for pumpkins.
The Casanova by TL Swan -4* I loved the first 2/3 of the book, but the last 1/3 was confusing and had the heroine running off, which I DO NOT LIKE. Women are not weak, stop writing us that way!
Games We Play by Dana Isly - 5*; however it’s a BDSM novella, so obviously not everyone’s genre. But it was GOOD in just 90 pages.
QOTW- I like pumpkin stuff. I’m so/so on drinks. I tried the pumpkin cold brew from Starbucks and the first half was great, but once the foam was gone, it was just coffee. 🤷🏼♀️
The only progress I’ve made in fun reading this week is to start a watered down version of Anne of Green Gables with my girls and nephew via FaceTime most nights. I have a few of my own books stacked up and hopefully I’ll make some progress on those this weekend.
QOTW: I’m not big on edible pumpkin anything, aside from this chocolate chip pumpkin bread from Whole Foods once, a long time ago. That was really good.
The Younger Wife by Sally Hepworth (interesting “twist”)
Whistle in the Dark by Emma Healy (good)
The Brittanys by Brittany Ackerman (not good)
QOTW: I have always hated pumpkin pie because the smell makes me queasy so it’s a no for pumpkin pie spice. I like actual pumpkin though and make things with that and no PS.
I’m excited some places are offering apple items this year because maybe it signals the reign of PS is waning. I love seasonal things but it was getting to be too much! There’s like 3-4 months I don’t shop at Trader Joe’s each year because all the new items are PS and the store smells. I can’t be alone in this! I also don’t love the push to make fall start in August.
