I always give a Nose frida, gripe water, gas drops, infant tylenol/motrin (can't recall what's available for babies LOL) and a wubanub because they're the best LOL. A lot of new parents don't think about the medicines until its too late (ie late at night with a gassy baby) and the Nose Friday SAVED MY LIFE with snotty babies.
Huhm, great ideas. Thank you! Zipper jammies are a winner I think. I also noticed that they don't have a Bundle Me on their registry and that was a godsend when my babies were little so I added that to my Amazon cart too
Is the Bundle Me the thing for the infant car seat? Most of them are not safe so that might be why they didn’t register for it. I’d stick to diapers, wipes, zip up sleepers, books or a target/amazon gift card.
This is true. We used this instead, which is elastic and goes over the car seat instead of in it:

I was going to say this. Someone passed one along secondhand which was so kind of her, and it would have been perfect for cold morning dog walks in the stroller in theory, but I couldn't be bothered to put it on and off every day between stroller and car, so I used it literally twice.
I will add that PJs and onesies with the little sleeve ends that you can fold over their tiny face-scratching newbornhands >>> having to use separate mittens that just fall off. Even at 4 months I still use them at night because otherwise DS often gets distracted by his hands instead of sleeping haha.
My go to is a zip up sleeper in a bigger size (3-6 or 6 months) and a small toy (age 6-9 months), normally a stacking toy. I remember when my DS started playing with toys, I hadn't planned anything and it was nice that I already had a couple things.
Not a parent and the only Frida thing I know of is the nose thing you stick up their nose to suck out the snot, do you...stick this in the baby's butt?
Yes. It is built so that you can never push it too far. I know some parents aren't comfortable with this but it works instantly. It whistles and baby feels instantly better. It also helps with constipation.
Those things are the fucking best! DS2 didn’t really have that issue, but they worked so, so well for DS1.
@sameoldstory, I usually throw a box of those in the basket as well as nail scissors and other small things like that. Again, I feel like these are the things that get overlooked and as a new parent you end up running out at odd hours to grab because you realize you need them.

It kept the baby so warm, we never needed a coat or snow suit for his first winter.
This is a great idea for a fall/winter baby! I bought one like for DD2 who was born in October and loved it. It kept her so warm and protected from the elements.
I also agree if you can't think of anything else, diapers or a GC are great. We combined gift cards to buy some big baby gear items we needed and it was so much more useful than clothes or blankets.
Zutano fleece booties. Both my kids sleep with their little giraffe luxe blankets at 4 & 6. I think they are more then $50 but maybe if you can get it on sale?
I have a 9 month old so this is all pretty fresh in my mind. If someone doesn't already have it or registered for it, I've been getting people velcro swaddles (3-5) and a noise machine that doesn't rely on batteries or has a timer. Good sleep is the greatest gift you can give new parents!
I got a ton of blankets, we use very few.
I have found burp cloths and non-bandana bibs to be crucial. The bandana ones are certainly cute but sit funny and end up annoying my baby.

My great niece just got in to a magic sleeper, and her mom LOVES it. My go-to is always gift cards. Amazon had (has?) a discount if you order recurring diaper delivery, and goodness know a million other baby items you won't know you need. I like the food gift cards too. We sent DH's co-worker and his wife a Grub-Hub card as we're not that good about cooking food you can freeze and reheat. Well that an allergies, preferences etc.
Not to change subjects, but emilyinchile, how is your baby? Must be getting big by now.
No Blankets! I got so many and we don't use any. They are super heavy, scratchy and not my style.
I loved getting blankets! Especially the more luxe, super soft ones. We still use some of our favorites (at 7 and 4). Funny how it just all depends!
What did you use them for with a baby? I could never find many uses for them with DS and he was a winter baby. I always worried he would suffocate if I put one on him and walked away or used it in the car seat while driving. I got so many similar looking hand knitted blue blankets that I couldn't even remember who gave which one. It was a kind gift, but I ended up giving a bunch away.
Interesting! I wonder if it works for adults...lol
I don't think it would as adults are able to fart on their own. In the first 3 months, the sphincter is still immature for babies so farting on their own is hard. The Windi allows it to open and relax. I didn't need the Windi after 12 weeks. Gas drops don't work for that. Once the gas is trapped in the intestines, it's too late.
TIL. Huh. My kids are 12 and 9 and I honestly never knew until today that babies couldn't toot on their own.

We only had a couple nice ones per kids, so it was a huge amount. But we’d lay them on the ground for tummy time, have a clean space to roll around or in the car seat walking outside, not as much when we were driving. Then they’d go to daycare as a nap blanket, extra blanket to sleep with (we’re up north). And as older, road trips, cold movie theaters, movie night. Basically I just love blankets!
That being said, I have no use for scratchy ones or ones that aren’t warm.

I buy Sophie the Giraffe.
I vowed I would never spend that much money on a chew toy, but we got one as a gift and both twins were so obsessed I ended up having to go buy another. It's such a "splurge" thing for new parents who have higher priority items to spend on, but was a god send for us during teething.

It's not as cute but honestly, I get stuff for the parents to survive. Gift cards for take out, a streaming subscription to stay sane at 3 a.m., things like that. The baby gets enough stuff. I try to take care of mom.
The zipper pjs that zip 2 ways. It makes it so much easier to do diaper changes. I wouldn’t give diapers because they might not use whatever brand you give, so in that case I’d do a gift card.
Someone gave me this changing station purse thing for DS. I found it very useful especially since I didn't do the diaper bag route with him. We used to keep it in the car trunk as he got older but was still in diapers. I wished I had it for DD when she was little; I used to take her out a lot more and remember changing her in some sketch places. I wound up gifting it to my 2 first time mom employees last year along with copies of my kids favorite board books.

My girls are 14/12/10 and all 3 of them still sleep with their baby blankies! My oldest still has her bunny lovey thing and absolutely refuses to go to sleep with out it. Bunny is going to college in a few years, I'm sure of it!
