I used to go before Covid. I always thought it was deceptively hard! I remember my first class, I was all this isn’t so bad…then I couldn’t sit down for 3 days afterward. I miss it!!
I don’t do Pure Barre, but I’ve been doing Barre3 for 7 years now and there is definitely a reason I keep going. Barre is such an amazing practice, you never really truly master it because it is so customizable, and so it is always a challenge, but once you find your home studio, it’s a safe place to challenge yourself.
I haven’t done PureBarre but have done barre and loved it. I was always so sore when starting back up but it was always worth it. Glad you enjoyed your 1st class.

I got great toning results with it but had to stop because it created back pain for me. But so many of my friends love it, I think it’s specific to my scoliosis. I definitely find it super challenging
Not PB, but I was a dancer. I might put a barre in my basement when we redo it, because that's one heck of a great workout. I sometimes do barre exercises in the kitchen while I'm cooking, and it feels so good. lol
shopgirl07, That is incredible. What changes did you see physically?
wanderlustmom, I have some slight scoliosis. I hope it will not create issues there. Do you use anything for yours? I had a friend that wore a lift in her shoe; she eventually did have surgery when the curve became too severe.

Gosh, a lot of changes. My butt was probably the biggest change, it was like I had a butt lift. Now that I’m not going anymore I definitely notice the difference. And the general toning of my chest, shoulders and arms. Maybe not as dramatic as my butt but very good. And the core strength I had was just incredible.
Does your studio offer the Reform class? It’s so hard, but so incredible. Takes a while to get used to but you really feel powerful once you do. I also really liked Empower, the cardio really kicked my butt!

Yes, they offer all three classes. I am excited to try all of them. And my butt needs serious help; my butt and upper thighs are my problem area.

Make sure your instructor has a dance background. As a former dancer, I hate most barre classes because the instructors don’t put any emphasis on proper, safe alignment and that can cause issues for your joints. A properly trained dancer will teach a barre class and make sure the students are correctly aligned to not cause injury.

I found with PureBarre, the C sit thing against the wall created a ton of back pain, so I would just skip it. I've never seen it done at any other barre studio.
IRT Peloton, I feel like they move way too quickly between movements to get much out of it.
I love barre and pilates workouts and I feel like the best I looked is when I did heavy lifting and supplemented with barre.

For the good news, it toned me so well that I dropped a size in my clothes. That was going 3-4 times a week for 3 months.
My scoliosis is moderate but it was bad enough for me to wear a brace for middle school. I tried all the bar workout classes and all have too much twisting for me. I go to hot yoga now and it’s been a dream for my back. So it could be specific to me b/c I know many friends who are very happy with no injuries. Sure it has a lot less injuries than most workouts.
