This is going to be kind of random. I just had my hair and makeup professionally done for my brother's wedding, and I thought I looked so good, and it photographed so well. I've had my makeup done a handful of times in the past for events and I always love how it looks.
I wear full makeup when I go out and it looks okay, but nothing like this. I would love to be able to somewhat replicate these looks myself without having to pay someone, or at least be able to take my look up a notch when we go to parties or whatever. Stuff like nicely shaped eyebrows, false lashes (I have very thin and sparse lashes), smoky eye, and so forth. I also need pretty decent coverage for my face as my skin tone is really uneven. I'm not really as into lip color and think any color looks weird on me.
This type of thing does not come naturally to me. For people here who are into makeup, how did you learn? Any YouTubers, blogs, or other tutorials you can recommend, or favorite products?
I also really need to learn to curl my hair and have no idea how to start with that. I just have a regular curling iron with the clamp thing and it doesn't look nearly as good when I try it as when someone else curls it.
My stylist gave me a tutorial on using my curling iron to achieve beachy waves. He suggested I bring it with me and walked me through it and booked a little extra time. I put extra in the tip that appointment.
Her works with a makeup person for weddings and such. She will do makeup tutorial appointments if someone asks. She's really into makeup and enjoys it almost as a hobby that pays- a 2 hour lesson is about $100 (one of my friends did this because she loved the eyebrows she got for her kid's wedding) and she comes to your house and uses your stuff plus brings her own kit so she can make recommendations.
I once got my eyebrows done at Anastasia and they gave me a surprisingly good tutorial on recreating the look at home and suggested products I still use today. I was upfront that I found pomades and brushes difficult and time consuming, so she steered me to a powder pencil and gel.

I wear makeup and everything I’ve learned has been through trial and error or the blog makeup by Tiffany d. Not sure if she still blogs, but I liked her a lot. I follow a few local make up artists and all of them offer classes.
I follow The Small Things blog and follow her on Instagram: she’s kind of annoying sometimes but I’ve learned a ton about makeup and hair from Kate.
This is who I was going to recommend. She does a ton of hair and make-up tutorials and she has my same coloring so I've used her videos. Like, I just discovered what concealer can do. Life changing, lol. But I like to just click around on Youtube for tutorials.

My mom sold Avon when I was a kid and she less us mess around w her samples. I did go through a short lived awful makeup phase in middle school but by HS I found my groove and have made only slight changes here and there - most recently I had to up my eye game bc of glasses.
Since you really liked the look from this makeup artist makeup you could try hiring her for a makeup lesson.
I used to like going to an Aveda salon once a year to have my makeup done, they'd have free events and you just needed to buy $25 in makeup and tip the artist. It's a good way to learn tips and what you like, or don't like. I did the same thing at the Clinique counter years ago too. Covid may make some of that difficult, but it might be worth looking into. I really think having a makeup update every so often keeps you from getting stuck in a rut and helps you look younger.
I get some ideas from Pinterest and Tik Tok, in addition to those mentioned above. Just get some cheap makeup to play around with, and then you can invest in better products once you know what you like. Although there are some great drug store products, too!

I really feel like I need this too. I want a pro to help me with everyday makeup, I feel like my eyes look so tired if I only wear mascara but as I age I’m less sure what to do that isn’t time consuming and over the top looking for work or regular daily life. There’s so much info out there that it’s hard to find what would be right for me and I kinda just want someone to recommend products and techniques customized for my face.
Jenna Menard is a celebrity makeup artist. I love her style of makeup - it’s natural but can be a little bit more than a no-makeup makeup look. She’s on instagram and she does virtual 1 hour private or semiprivate makeup/skin tutorials. Highly recommend!

Can you message the makeup artist for the products she used? I've gone to Sephora and had them match my skin tone for foundation and take home a few samples to try as well. Some things just wear better for daily use v. events.
I went the route of getting stuff done that lasts a long time rather than doing it myself regularly. So I have eyelash extensions (pretty natural looking ones, nothing crazy) that I get refreshed every 2-3 weeks and don't touch at all in between. It looks like I'm wearing mascara and light eyeliner on my upper eyelids all the time. I also got microblading done for my eyebrows, which were super sparse and light. I still fill them in a bit when I put on makeup, but now the general shape is already there, so it's much easier.
For hair, I watched a beach waves tutorial on YouTube to try to get curl like when I pay for a blow out.
I'm thinking of getting a lash lift and tint maybe? Has anyone ever done that?? I don't think I want to deal with extensions.
I haven’t yet but I’ve been thinking about it too. I LOVED having extensions but I just don’t have the bandwidth to keep up with them right now. I feel like my eyelashes play a huge part in making my face look awake and they don’t curl up naturally. The eyelash curler helps a little bit I think the lift might be better.
I’d like to do something about my eyebrows but I don’t know what. I’m not willing to commit to a trend by tattooing/micro blading.
starburst604, I think I may try it here before the holidays just for something fun. Its $60 at the salon near my house where I've had my makeup done before, and I trust them.
I am wary about getting anything done to my eyebrows. I like it on other people, but I'm worried it would be too much for me. My eyebrows have a decent shape already and I can just fill them in a little pretty quickly.
I did go ahead and buy some false eyelashes at Walmart lol. I am hoping to learn how to use those for a party we have on November 6.

I used to get lash extension but they were so expensive and I think my H absolutely hated the way they looked, lol. So, I gave them up because pandemic. My sister visited me last month and her lashes looked amazing and she said she's been using Latisse. I've been using it for about a month and my lashes are sooooo much longer and I won't even see the full effect until I'm three months in. I love it.

Latisse has worked well for me though I'm now using a different brand that I think works just as well. Unfortunately my lashes grow straight and they are light, so it takes a lot of mascara for them to show up at all. I'm thinking the lift/tint might help with that.

What brand are you using? I heard Revitalash (sp?) is also great.
I have heard lash lifts are great, but I'm so afraid they will destroy my lashes. I'm traumatized after my extensions fell off. If it's happened to you, I'm sure you know what I mean, lol.

Yes that’s what I switched too, seems to work just as well for a smaller price tag. My lashes were so destroyed from lash extensions!
I skimmed through the answers so maybe it has been suggested. I hate foundation because it either makes my skin look too dry or too oily. My SIL uses a ton of makeup and she is good but her face looks horrible up close. I find airbrushed foundation gives the best results. Is this something the makeup artist used on you? For best tutorials, Youtube has thousands. You can definitely pick the ones that fit your style best. I like the ones from Dominique Sachse. She is in her 50s, an anchor for a local Houston TV sation. She has great hair and makeup tutorials for short and long hair, mature skin... She uses expensive and drugstore products. It's really for everyone and every budget. Plus I find her voice soothing www.youtube.com/channel/UCXrsVPFsk-66NTaoGMXoPFQ
Don't come for me - but I've done a lash lift at home and it definitely makes a difference. Its not damaging like extensions and there's no upkeep (plus you can still wear mascara on them). I'd definitely pay $60 for a lift.
I would definitely reach out to the artist who did your makeup originally and see what type of foundation she used, because the trial and error on that can be expensive and time consuming.
Aloe Vera , I think it was airbrushed foundation. She like sprayed it on?
I can get my SIL to give me her contact information and I can ask.
Yes, it looks so much more natural. I had this done for my wedding and I didn't feel like I was wearing any foundation at all. It looked flawless and weightless.

Wayne Goss has some good YouTube videos for everyday eye looks (and just make-up tips in general) for different eye shapes. I just watched one the other day where he showed how to do a fairly natural look on hooded eyes to make them look more open.
My hair stylist does tutorials for a fee (I think she said $45 for a session). I had asked about it because I'm really not good with my hair and my hair is generally a PITA, so I hate playing around with it. I haven't booked anything yet, but am thinking about it. I do ask her questions when she's styling my hair after I get a cut/highlight, so I've picked up a few things just from that.
For make-up I just watch a variety of YouTube videos by people that do a more natural/wearable look. I mean, a lot of the beauty youtubers aren't make-up artists, but there are some out there where I trust their opinions and techniques.
I also got sucked into Lashify. I should be getting my kit on Friday. It's basically at home lash extensions that can last up to a week (and doesn't damage your lashes). They have some really natural styles, so I'm hoping it works for me. The lashes are applied on the underside of the lash instead of a band on the upper lash line. I also use Neulash and it really does help to grow my lashes. They aren't crazy long or full, but I can get a decent look with mascara.
