Do you wear a silk cap to bed?
My hair is fine wavy/curly (2a, I think). It’s not dry and I usually wash everyday and airdry. I am wondering if silk caps would help my hair keep the wave better than not wearing one. I know for some it does but it seems to be those that have dry hair. I would like to not wash my hair everyday.
Silk caps help reduce breakage, it isn't to retain waves/curls. The cap doesn't make it so you don't have to wash your hair as often, the texture is like that naturally. ETA: I have 2a (2b in spots) hair that is dry enough I only wash once or twice a week, but I don't wear a cap.
I use a silk pillowcase to reduce breakage, and I put my hair in a high loose bun with a silk scrunchie. This reduces breakage, but I have not found a way to keep the curls intact to get a second day out of them. I always end up at least co-washing, using a microfiber waffle-weave hair towel, applying product, then air-drying (usually takes less than an hour if I get enough water out with the hair towel).
ETA: I shampoo 1-2 times a week as needed. The rest of the days I use conditioner only, then use a wide-tooth comb in the shower. I definitely recommend cowashing instead of shampooing most days.

I have shoulder length fine wavy/curly hair and I did wear a satin cap to bed for a while, until I got a very painful scalp boil that I think was caused by the friction from the cap band. I do not wish to repeat that ever again so now I just use a satin pillowcase and clip my hair like this (www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nvw2oX9x_6U )
I can't actually get the shortest parts from the back up to the top of my head so that part just stays out and my hair is fine enough that I only use 3 small clips (front top and sides in one and then 2 sections with as much as I can get from the back spit down the middle) but this helps keep the curl intact enough that I can mist with water and scrunch a little in the morning and go 3-4 days without washing.

I use a silk pillow case to help with breakage. Normally I can get 2-3 days out of my curls. I typically just spray with water and scrunch it up and let it air dry.
I don’t use silk anything, but I do use the most moisturizing / nourishing products I can find, and refresh the curl with a lightweight oil as needed. I wear my hair down the first day, pull the front back the second day and refresh the lengths with oil, and put it all up the third day. Then I wash and start again.
I do - and I have managed to only get the curls to last when I first get a cut. Until this weekend. I am trying different things, but the trick for me was to do a wash day, finger curl when wet, use the microfiber to plop, then use a diffuser.
I slept with my hair in the bonnet that night and then refreshed the next AM with just water and more finger curling the areas that needed help.

Yes, I can get second day out of my curls/waves. I have a silk pillow case, but that's for breakage. I use a hair oil milk the second day and scrunch to bring out the waves again. I also use corn starch instead of dry shampoo for the second day. My hair is blonde so it doesn't show. I use dry shampoo on day three, as I think it dries my hair out.
Can I crash this post and ask how all you curly hair people can go without washing your hair every day without it turning into a huge knotted mess? If I want to skip a wash (which I do frequently) I have to brush it out, which then turns my head into a poof ball, then I braid it and wear it like that. I can’t figure out day 2 curls.

My hair is super short now, and I use leave in conditioner and water mixed in a spray bottle, my fingers and it's good to go.
When it was super long, I did pretty much the same thing, except that I used a wide toothed comb, and never used a brush on it.
I have almost waist length fine 3B hair. I wash once a week. I sleep with it pineapples and in a satin scarf or satin sleep cap. I use a TON on gel on wash day (Sunday) and don't scrunch out the crunch. By Thursday or Friday I touch up with a small barrel curling iron. Saturday us usually a pony tail or hat

I have super curly thick hair. I mist with water and a leave in conditioner then run a wide tooth comb thru it to clean it up. I don’t understand a brush in it until after I wash.

I can only extend washes when I blow out my hair. If I go curly, I have to wash the next day. I tend to get greasy if I do a co-wash since I use high moisture products.
The best thing that's helped my hair grow and not break is using the curly ponytail holders since they don't break my hair. I wear my hair up for work a lot since I'm in medicine.

At night I put it in a loose ponytail on top of my head to keep it from getting knotty, and then in the morning I spray it with water and scrunch. Once in a while I will scrunch in curl cream or something if it’s frizzy.
Sometimes. If I wash at night and do my full routine, I'll go to sleep with my gel cast still hard and use the bonnet. But any other time, I don't bother because it doesn't make a difference. I still have to get it wet in the morning to refresh it. In those cases, I untangle with a wide tooth comb then get it wet.
Ohhh I thought it was to help to retain the shape as well as prevent breakage. Never mind then.
Bernadine I guess I don’t have to wash my hair everyday but to get it barely decent after sleeping on it would take me longer than if I just wash it.
It is. Protecting your curls/waves at night reduces frizz and helps you keep your style longer. I use a buff as I find it most comfortable, but there are lots of options. I can usually get about three decent days out of a wash if I use the buff at night.
Hmmm. Everyone seems to put their hair up with a ponytail holder at night to prolong their curls but my hair must hate me because I get serious ponytail crease and it also never stays up while I sleep. Maybe someday I’ll figure out my hair.

I haven’t always. Recently I’ve found that I get really hot and sweaty when my hair is down and on my neck.

Have you gotten a curly cut? Not necessarily a DevaCurl cut, but from someone who knows how to cut curly hair? I did that one time, and the way she cut it was basically twisting my hair in chunks and cutting down it diagonally (or something like that). It was insane how it looked while she cut it, but the cut was the best I'd ever had for my curls. It was bouncy and super curly without much effort. The way your hair is cut makes all the difference, especially if your goal is to wear it curly most days.

My hair is 2c fine. I use a satin scarf and a satin pillowcase. On wash day I use cream and gel, then diffuse. Tie the scarf on at night and I can usually get 3 days before I need to refresh/put it up.

I've never been able to do that either.
The key thing for me with this is to keep it super loose. I had the best curls after using a head wrap kind of like this girl is doing. youtu.be/06Hoc2xDiHQ

I use one of those spiral plastic ones. I tried a silk scarf, but it never stayed on my head. I get my best curl results if I curl it with a denman brush and those will look really good on day 2, even to day 3. Day 3 would require refreshing with water and more gel. Day 2 probably just water.
However, my scalp is an absolute disaster (really awful dandruff that I haven't figured out how to treat properly), so I need to wash more often. With school, I do my hair like once every other week. I just let it air dry and put it in a ponytail the rest of the time. I have really fine hair and never was able to train it to be washed less. In fact, I fucked up my scalp really bad a few years ago trying to do that while also using only a cleansing conditioner.
