You call this house "not much"?! Sure, it doesn't have the most up-to-date kitchen and the floor isn't my type but it's still a nice house.
It's think it's all relative....this is a not huge or updated house on a not huge lot. Compared to many of the houses posted here, I'd consider it to be not much
I freaking love this house. It's so unique! Within the 2 million scenario, I'd be curious to see how far the remaining 200k could go in updating it.
Super old and rambling, coastal Maine, and with a barn/area for my future business selling my salsa/hot sauce/pickles made with ingredients grown on my property - as well as selling other items by local artisans.
I've always wanted to live in an old Victorian or Gothic style home--but one with updated electrical, heating and plumbing. Turret, wraparound porch, the works.
I'd knock down some old house around here (mine current house is from 1969, there are a lot of outdated era houses here) and put up a new custom build in my current town between 2500 and 3000 sq. ft. I'd make sure it stays in character with the neighborhood. But I'd keep the budget for the house around 1.2 million or less because I would need the remaining $800K to pay the taxes on that house for the next 20 years.
Can I keep my house ? It’s nothing special but it’s plenty big enough for us … and then use the 2M to max-out a fantastic sound system, great furniture, cool upgrades, and hired professionals help to clean, organize, and help me make everything beautiful for a decade or two or three ?? I don’t even need a pool. After a trip, I just want someone handy to unpack our car, clean everything, and put away the stuff where it belongs.
And then I’d spend $300k to update it. What you can buy for $2M in Steamboat is depressing as fuck. I’d love to live up there though. Best of both worlds being near a ski resort, but also in a real community with people who actually live there year round.
Also, when I looked, there were only two properties that were under 2,500 square feet and one of those was 800 square feet. Ideally the house would be around 2,500.
I like our current city, this place is enormous but it’s on 4 acres by the mountain bike trails we love. Living in 1200 square feet now it’s hard to picture being in a house this size but I guess it’s also hard to picture being able to cough up 7k a month on a mortgage 🤣

Omg my tiny ass house is 700 something square feet. That IS depressing
Something like this For $1.2 m. Its in a small community about 45 miniutes from where i live in the mountains above the city. It is such a great area, houses in there rarely come up for sale. A friend's family has a place in that area and you just feel so relaxed when you go there
Actually, I would buy this for just under 1m. It's in one of my favorite neighborhoods and not too far from my new job. I love that it has history. The decor is really NMS at all, but it's just such a neat house that I think I could get over it.
