Honestly I really like the area I live, so I would stay around here. This house is really cool, I love that there's so much land and it's off-grid. There is a lot of lawn, which I would convert into a food forest.
We just bought a new house in our neighborhood and it cost over $2 million. That got us 3500 sq ft and a 5000 sq ft lot. For our neighborhood, that is HUGE. Most "starter" homes in our neighborhood cost $1.5 million. There is a 41 million tear down on our street. Like literally it is unlivable and will have to be torn down. But the lot is one of the 5000 sq ft lots like we have, which are rare and the lot is flat which is also rare, as our neighborhood is hilly. Flat, larger lot is a big thing.
ETA: $1 million teardown. My finger must not have hit the shift key when I went to hit $ and it typed as 4. HAHAHAHA Still ... $1 million to tear down a house is insane.
This house was up for sale forever but now it’s removed. There has to be something wrong with it bc shore houses are flying right now. Anyway. It’s my perfect house. It’s my very favorite location and isolated and beachfront but away from crowds and near nature and not obnoxious or showy and I can live out my dream as a beach recluse.

I like living in the city and my neighborhood, but I'd probably want to move to this neighborhood because it's so pretty and many of the homes are historic for Denver.

I'd buy a true three-bedroom in my current neighborhood so my kids didn't have to share a room. For $2m I might be able to also get a sliver of outdoor space and/or central air.
I honestly don't want a ton of space to decorate and maintain, so I'd probably pick something like a nice condo in a trendy part of Seattle. I don't know Seattle well enough to say exactly what or where, but I love the beauty of the PNW and really enjoyed Seattle when I visited, so that would probably be my "I have enough money to live anywhere I want to" spot. I would love if it had views of the water, trees, and mountains, with a big deck/rooftop patio to be able to enjoy them.
The only place I see listed close to that price in my town is gorgeous, but it is over 9000 square feet which is WAY too big for 2 people so I wouldn't even want it.
Like some PPs, $2 million doesn't get you much in my area. I'd maybe buy something like this and put the other $200k (assuming it sold at asking price, which I doubt) toward a reno. But then I'd also want a much bigger/better pool...
If we are dreaming and I didn't have to spend it all on the actual house, I'd retire early and buy a cottage on the coast in the Scottish highlands like this: www.struttandparker.com/properties/drumnaguie

Well this exercise just made me hyperventilate. There is nothing in the area under 2million that seems like it's "worth it" because home prices have exploded so much.

You call this house "not much"?! Sure, it doesn't have the most up-to-date kitchen and the floor isn't my type but it's still a nice house.
It's think it's all relative....this is a not huge or updated house on a not huge lot. Compared to many of the houses posted here, I'd consider it to be not much
