I’d say if you have a little chef in the 5-10 range that you are ok helping, and that needs help, it’s cute.
For my daughter, by the time was nearing 11, she was baking/cooking all on her own with real adult kitchen accessories - not kid versions. And she certainly didn’t need my help with anything really.
IMO it was a bit too childish for a kid that is experienced in the kitchen.

I also tried a sample and wasn’t super impressed. We were on the lower age of the age spectrum and my kid definitely needs help, but they are just recipe cards, no ingredients. It just felt like too much work. I mean, I can grab a recipe and shop for ingredients and cook with my kid. In fact, since I have to help, I’d rather do something that I’m familiar with and that I know we will like.
We had a good experience with it. Dd was about 6-8 when we did it, I think. She did need help at that age.
I liked: - Real recipes (not just “kid friendly” food), simplified to make it doable for kids - Format was user friendly - Encouraged her to try new things, not just things she picked - separate shopping list for me - durable recipe cards - most recipes were pretty good - encouraged dd to read, plan ahead, and follow steps (probably not a concern at your DD’s age) - she was excited about it and committed to trying every recipe, even the ones that didn’t appeal to her
Didn’t like: - tools were fine but generally not needed. Some I liked and kept, others I got rid of. A few she really couldn’t use, like the garlic smasher, but I actually really liked that one!
I’d probably by a one-off kit and try it out. At my DD’s age, she needed to my help but she could do everything but the oven independently at this point.
How experienced is your daughter in the kitchen? I just looked and a year’s worth of the kits is $240. I bet you could find some kitchen something that would be super cool for that price!
Last year my daughter got a Kitchen Aid Mixer, and it’s been awesome. She uses it all the time, makes homemade pasta and all sorts of stuff Definitely money well spent!
We got a kit for about $5 on sale just one kit not a subscription. It was this super duper complicated cinnamon roll recipe when I could have just bought the Pilsbury canned ones. It was too hard for her - she was 7. It took almost an hour. It was fine because we were in lockdown but I wouldn’t normally spend that much time baking.

We got DD a Kitchen Aid Mixer for her 11th birthday, and it's been a hit. She usually asks for kitchen tools and gadgets for bday/Christmas.
I have always been interested in this since I like to cook, but was waiting for DD1 (6.5) to be a little older. Then I scored a pack of the recipe cards for free on FB. I’m so glad I did because it made me realize it wasn’t worth it. The recipe cards are cute, but out of all the ones I got, DD1 was only interested in a couple. Since it doesn’t come with the ingredients, it is not that different than just printing a recipe and doing it together. It is kind of like kiwicrate, sounds awesome in theory but in practice it’s a lot of work for the parents.
At 10.5, I think you could buy her a recipe book, an apron, and some fun kitchen tools and put together a nice gift box for way cheaper.
I can take pics of a few of the cards tomorrow and send them to you if you’re interested. Just shoot me your email in a PM.
Thanks everyone. DD is way to advance for it. She made mini apple crumble pies from her Harry Potter Cookbook all on her own multiple times now. I just helped with rolling the pie crust and putting in and out of the oven. I have no idea what to get her but this box isn't it.

She sounds a lot like my daughter.
Last year we got my daughter a bunch of tubs of various fondant colors and then a bunch of fondant tools - shapes, sculpting tools, etc. She’s had a lot of fun with that.
Does she have a nice set of cookware or bakeware that is all hers? A nice knife set?
Becca, she snapped a ceramic paring knife last weekend cutting up carrots for the dog treats she was making. She broke the same knife at my mom's house a few months earlier. I would totally buy her a new one but the store I bought those at went belly up during COIVD. We have tons of mixing bowls, tools, and baking sheets and I have nowhere to store any more. I like gastro, thought of doing Hello Fresh and having her cook dinner on nights she is home.

This sounds like my friend’s daughter. She got a KA Mixer at about that age. She’s graduating this year and will be going to Culinary Arts school in the fall! It’s been SO awesome to watch her develop her talent over the years. She’s now capable of doing more in the kitchen than probably 90+% of adults I know!

I would go with some Outschool classes, and if you can get the supply list early enough, gift her the ingredients for Christmas with a card that she gets to take the class on X date. If you have local cooking classes, that would be even better. My daughter has done some of the classes through outschool, like Mochi making and cake decorating. She started around 11 or 12. You could, also, look for camps for cooking. I just went to a week of adult cooking camp taught by Sheri Castle (has a show on PBS called The Key Ingredient), it was amazing, but there are cooking camps for kids, too.

I would like it better if it contained the ingredients. We tried it early in Covid when I was only occasionally going to the store and always by myself- so the kit sorrowing and then not being able to make the stuff anytime soon kind of ruined the fun of it.
