would you want a human doing it? If not, then I don’t want your dog doing it. Dog poop is disgusting.
Poop on your own lawn or at least the street.
lol to trying to control where a dog poops. What am I supposed to do? Catch it in my hands? Drag her 5 feet into the street? I think it's more gross to get it on the sidewalk where people are walking.
If your toddler was walking down the sidewalk and had an accident that ended up on my lawn and you cleaned it up, I wouldn't have a problem with that.
these aren’t ‘accidents’ or dogs that are somehow getting away from people. People think dogs are special and should get to run free in ways they’d never let a kid do. No one has ever let their kid run around my lawn, pull down their pants and squat a poop. But they do it every day with their dogs as if dog poop is somehow less gross than human poop. (We have no sidewalks. So when I say ‘street’ as an acceptable alternative I’d include sidewalks if we had them)

OK, so 1, when I lived in Florida near the beach, I actually did have a mother pull over in front of my house and allow her boy child (maybe 4 or 5) to pee on my lawn. I am still clutching my pearls over that.
Now that I have that out of the way, a dog on a leash is still a dog who is going to pee or poop. Our current dog actually doesn't do either on walks but that puts him in like the .000001 percent of dogs. Most dogs are going to pee or poop at least once on a walk. You can try to get them to poop outside on your lawn at the beginning but it's very unpredictable. As long as someone picks it up I don't see how you could control for this.
Interesting. Maybe this is rEgIoNaL lol. In our neighborhood there are sidewalks on both sides of the street. Often there are cars on the street. Dogs are constantly being walked and they walk on the grass on both sides of the sidewalk. And sometimes they stop to poop and you can't just yank them into the street once they've assumed the position lol. It's been that way in most suburban neighborhoods I've lived in.
People don't shit on lawns because it's easier to control where a person does it. I'm not purposefully walking my dogs to other people's houses to poop. They just...do it. Even if they did poop at home before we left. They can be finicky like that.
If it was custom for not yet potty trained children to run around naked, then the comparison would make more sense. And in that case, no I wouldn't be mad if a kid shit on my lawn lol.

Have you ever had a dog? You don't get to pick where they poop - they are animals, they aren't going to understand. I suppose you could train your dog to never poop on grass, but that would only really work if you don't have a yard with grass at your home. And even then, they are still animals and are going to behave like animals. A toddler is not the same thing unless you let your kid run down the street without a diaper on, which is not a normal thing for people to do.
I mean sure, don't let the dog run all over someone's yard, but if they are pooping on the edge of the yard and it is picked up, what is that harming? I would think pooping in the street would actually be worse if that's where people walk because then anyone who walks behind them is going to immediately get poop remnants on their feet and track them around. At least if they are on the edge of the grass it is unlikely anyone will be stepping in the same spot.

Nah, i have a dog, I curb trained him. Now when he has to poop he pulls over to the curb and poops on the road.
What's the popular opinion re: dogs peeing on flowers and other purposeful plantings, perhaps even including a lawn? Does it matter that dog urine kills grass?
I mean, don’t leave a huge smear behind when you pick up your dog shit, but other animals shit in your yard so I don’t understand being worked up over a dog shitting at the edge of your yard.
I do not care if animals poop on my lawn (as long as it is picked up) or if people throw dog poop or other trash in my can as long as I'm able to throw away my own trash. I don't particularly want people doing things that harm my property or put me at risk of being harmed, but I do not feel all that territorial about my stuff in general. I think part of living close to neighbors means that I am going to have to deal with other people and they are going to have to deal with me so it all works out.
I haven't lived in a single family home since high school, though, so perhaps the fact that my whole adult life has been lived in fairly close proximity to others has made me unusually breezy about things.
I don’t think that a dog pooping on a lawn is in any way comparable to human pooping on a lawn though, lol.
It's unpopular opinions, after all. I find dog poop at least as disgusting as human poop. It's why I'll never have a dog. I'm done with the diaper years.
I don't like dogs. Flameful on this board I know but I just don't. Or maybe I just don't like most owners? Well behaved dogs are okay. I get what sonrisa is saying. We don't let toddlers just jump on whoever and lick strangers so why is it just so cute when dogs do it? Dogs can absolutely be trained to not do that but most aren't.
That said I would way rather a dog poop in the yard than on a sidewalk where I am walking. Provided the owner cleans it up no issues there at all.
H losses his shit every time someone lets their dogs pee or poop in the yard so he’d be in good company here. I’m very whatever about it all. Pick it up but please don’t put it in my can. I don’t even put poop diapers in my trash can and I don’t want dog poop in there either. I had no idea you could train a dog not to pee or poop on a walk. I just figured that’s what they will do.

I am not a huge dog person either, but I've had dogs and it can actually be really hard to train dogs not to lick people. But, good owners know this and don't let their dog close enough to strangers to allow it.
I'm dying at assuming that all people can just somehow find a way for their dog to safely poop in the street or on the curb. So many issues on that from someone who lives in a city. I mean, the streets are filled with parked cars. I don't walk in the middle of the street, I'm certainly not taking my dog into it to poop and hope we don't get hit by a car or cause a traffic incident. Parked cars are generally right against the curbs. It would take quite the feat of balance for Fido to squeeze onto the curb to poop.
As an aside, I find that the majority of dogs seem to poop in the area between the sidewalk and the street when on walks, not like right up on people's main front lawn. And in many, many cities and neighborhoods that do have sidewalks, that area between the sidewalk and the street is actually not your property, it's an easement or right of way technically owned by your municipality. So it seems ridiculous to complain about someone's dog pooping there as long as the owner picks it up.
Curb train a dog?? Purposefully train a dog to take a dump on a sidewalk where people are just walking?! Now I’ve heard everything.
Part of the public access test for a service dog includes the dog only eliminating on cue, and they have to be able to do it on concrete.
Ok but do you know how many dogs fail out of service dog training? Not all dogs can be trained to do all things. So owners accommodate as best they can.
I don’t like hearing kids throwing screaming fits, but I don’t judge the parents who are doing their best or point out that some kids don’t scream like that because some things are just part of living in the world.

Lol one of my dogs gets stuck in the kennel sometimes when the door is open. He would not pass a service dog test. Bless his heart, but that’s just not on the list of possibilities for him.

Wait- this makes even less sense then, lol. So you want people walking into the street- where cars are- instead of your yard? In traffic? Where then the person would also have to go to pick it up? If you had sidewalks and people were walking their dog specifically into your yard to poop then that’s weird, but there are no sidewalks! They’re walking in your yard just by virtue of walking down the street!
We once dogsat for a dog who’s poop was literally the consistency of pudding. He shat on the sidewalk. He was generally a weird fella. I cleaned it up as best as I could, but I promise you it would have been better if he went on the grass. LOL
This shit talk is all weird though. I try to get my dog to poop on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and the street. 90% of the time he poops on the public neighborhood property near the poop bag stations though because he’s a sweet guy.

And service dogs get WAY more training than the average house pet, with people who are given guidance and support for training, with many dogs who still fail to pass even with all that training!
Also I get annoyed with all the negatives about dog owners. There are good dog owners too. Ones that walk outside often and keep an eye in the neighborhood, pick up lost things on walks and post them on the neighborhood page, call the police about suspicious activity (like smoke from a house that ended up being a fire). I also pick up trash as I pick up my dogs poop if there’s something nearby.
Please. If a dogs pooped in the street after raising a little curtain around themselves so no one had to suffer the indignity of just seeing it people would be saying "Why is he pooping in the street in front of my house???" Mine will conjure up a poop on a walk no matter what and he goes on the grass near the curb and I carry the bag home with me. I'm just going to start walking my dog waving my raised middle finger around at anyone who might be around.

My old dog had major stomach issues towards the end of her life despite us trying a bunch of different things, and she'd have like weeks of very loose stools at a time. I used to take a bottle of water with me on our walks because she would squat and just leak a bit and it couldn't be picked up, but I felt awful not doing anything, so I'd at least pour a little water on it to try to mitigate the effect (in other people's yards while we were walking because she needed walked and couldn't control herself and in these parts I've never seen anyone try to make their dog go on the street or even the sidewalks, and I honestly had no idea that is what 'curb your dog' meant...I thought it meant to clean up after them and keep them near the curb, i.e. don't let them run more than a leash's length into someone's yard).

Legit LOL. Seriously. If these boards taught me anything it's that you certainly can't please everyone!

Seriously. I mean, this board regularly has people bitching because they don’t like someone parking, gasp, a car in front of their house. Can you imagine the uproar if dogs were shitting there?!

This is a popular fight on my neighborhood Facebook page. We have sidewalks. I let my dog go on the strip of grass between the sidewalk and street and wouldn’t let him poop on someone’s actual lawn. But some people even scoff at that. And I’m always thinking of the poop of all the other animals - cats, raccoons, rabbits, birds, possums, squirrels. Like those animals respect people’s lawns 😂
