I have this thing I don't know what to do with. Do you think I can make this christmas tree (pic 1) on the wooden thing I have (pic 2)? I"m open to other ideas for something crafty to do with the item in pic 2.

I think it might look better if you were weaving/wrapping it with some yarn to make a tree to decorate rather than what looks like just attaching something to it in the other picture. It has sort of a natural tree shape going on with the holes.
I’m waiting on a job offer! It could come next week or the week after. The hiring manager told me in a “non-official offer-making capacity” that it was coming, so I am very impatiently waiting. The holidays are obviously making this take longer, and I am not good with patience for these kind of things (or anything, let’s be real). So I will spend every day on pins and needles until it comes through.
This morning I took my first dose of Adderall to try to help with my adult ADHD symptoms. I feel…weird.
I could be officially divorced at this point if I didn't intend to file our taxes jointly. ARGH! I really want this to be complete and January 3rd can't come soon enough.
In the meantime, I have put the down payment on new windows for my house (MY house) that we desperately need. I close on my refinance of MY house on Monday and am pulling out some of the equity to pay for said windows (bitches are expensive), painting, flooring, and possibly some remodel work in the master bath. I'm stupid levels of excited to make the house mine and not have to consider the feelings of anyone else.
I also added another course to next semester so I can finish the degree I have to earn to keep the job I already have.
Things are moving forward. My kids seem to be taking the divorce in stride so far. My DD is finishing her first high school finals and life is going on.
My oldest sister is coming to my house to bake 4 batches of cinnamon rolls today. She usually goes to my parents' house but they downsized and moved into the same condo complex she lives in. Therefore I have the biggest kitchen. I'm looking forward to hanging out with her. It's my last day of my parents of kids with special needs class this morning (on zoom). Then I can attend monthly zoom meetings. 'Meeting' other parents who get it has been wonderful for me.
I just ordered my last Christmas gift, which seems silly because I hardly buy any so I really dragged my feet on this one. I am sending my grandma a gift box of fruit and chocolates. I had a hard time figuring out what to send an almost 90 year old woman who lives by herself and is struggling a bit with her memory. I wanted it to be consumable but not so much stuff that she felt overwhelmed. I think fruit is a good compromise because at least it's healthy so she won't feel like she will never eat dozens of cookies or whatever.
I can't believe Christmas is in a week. This year I am trying to let go of my sadness that the holidays are no longer what they used to be. Ever since my parents moved out of my childhood home (and to a completely different part of the country), things have been very different and this is the 3rd year we are just staying home. I miss our old traditions and togetherness but I guess life has moved on so I need to too. Anyway, Christmas isn't terribly exciting for 2 adults who don't have kids and don't have close friends or family to spend it with, but I AM looking forward to a 3 day weekend and eating yummy food. It should be nice.
I am also just super annoyed that in my old job I would be coming up on a 12 day break but I only get two 3 day weekends instead, though! At least I should be WFH the whole time so it's not like it will be stressful, but I'd rather just have the time off...

The power tools and beeps from construction equipment is wearing me down. My neighbors were out at 1030 last night repairing something. Since the rain started I’m sure people are finding leaks and more damage. We are still waiting on a roof inspector. The mayor mentioned there is a possibility our area doesn’t qualify for FEMA or TEMA. Tornadoes are bullshit.
I am in the worst meeting. Lord, I just want it to be the end of the day.
DH's original plan to be on a morning flight and home early this afternoon of course has changed. Now he's getting in around 9pm, but I think I'm going to drag the kids to be airport to pick him up anyway. It'll be way past bedtime by the time we get home, but hey it's Friday and the first night of winter break.
I am currently wearing one of those satin headbands in my hair with my hair wrapped around it hoping that it will dry in to beautiful waves just like it does for all of the TikTok-ers. I don't actually have high hopes.
I ended up getting a gift for the Yankee Swap (is that better than Pollyanna? LOL) that I'm hosting on Sunday. There was an awesome Herschel rose colored tote included in my Fab Fit Fun box, that while beautiful, I will likely never use because I already have a ton of totes so I've decided to give it as a gift instead.
Any tips for entertaining a bored cat? Ours likes to run around causing trouble. He has tons of toys and only briefly will engage with us on any of them. He likes to be petted but won't sit in laps, so when we are working he likes to walk around scratching and biting all the things he is not supposed to. He's been scolded like 10 times already today and it's only 11am. I think he is just bored and wants negative attention because of it.

Our cat loves watching kitty TV lol. It is video of birds and squirrels on you tube.

Or do you have a place where he can look out the window where you can put a bird feeder? Our cats love that.
Ha, the puppy is a great idea Although then we'd probably just have 2 animals causing issues, but at least they could bother each other!
We do have a very active bird feeder that he loves to watch, but it's on our main level and I'm working upstairs. Sadly there is nothing directly in front of the windows up here. He can watch the whole circle of townhouses from the window here, but not as much is going on most of the time.

Maybe get one of those window bird feeders? They just suction cup right to the outside of the window.

We tried one of these a couple of years ago, but it was a little unnerving to have squirrels SO CLOSE. And they weren't scared of us. At all. H had to spray them with the hose to get them away from the windows even after we took the feeder down. Cats loved it though, lol. (We had put it on a ground floor window first, but the same thing happened when I tried a second floor window... those little assholes are persistent 😅)
We’ve kept DS home from preschool this week, he’s on break for the next 2 weeks but I just didn’t want him to get sick before the holidays. We’ve gotten an email daily this week reporting that numerous kids are out sick and are waiting for their covid results. Our district has to notify parents of each sick kid and then notify of their covid test results, thankfully all negative but reassured my decision of keeping DS home and basically throwing almost a month of tuition in the garbage.
The kids Christmas presents are all sorted, I’m so excited. Haha. I still have absolutely nothing purchased for DH and have absolutely no idea what to get him. DS did randomly ask for a real life chicken for Christmas, which I have no idea where he even got the idea from but definitely not happening.

Hmm, not a bad idea. I actually just remembered we are going to be setting up our workspace in our walkout basement area soon, and that overlooks the backyard. We certainly can put more bird stuff down there!

I just had my post-Lasik check up and all looks good. I have a smidge of bluriness in 1 eye that she says will go away. YAY!! Science is seriously cool. Humans are smart as shit (some of them lol).

I'm so frustrated that I'm shaking. In November at a team meeting it was decided between myself, the PM, and a consultant that I would get them information for a project at the end of December. I've been working towards that deadline and will hit it. Today, the PM called and asked when I would have the information, to which I responded the end of December. She said that the consultant doesn't remember agreeing to that, and that I need to get it ASAP. I said I would try, but I don't think it's feasible at this point since it's only two weeks away, and I'll need most of that time to finish everything. She told me that I need to "recognize the fact that others depend on you, and you have a bigger role than your own". WTF. I am working towards a deadline that everyone agreed upon.
Every interaction I've had with this woman has been adversarial, I think because she didn't really understand my role when she started, and got offended when I told her we do things differently than she's done elsewhere.
Day started ok, I was getting some stuff done around the house (and working) but then got a call from the school nurse. So now I’m sitting in an ER room with DS because he fell in PE and broke both of his front teeth in half. He seems to be fine, but we’re now waiting on a pediatric dentist resident to take a look.
Love that I just started a new job, which means new deductible. Good thing DH got his bonus this week!
My kid is so ready for break - this morning was another shit show, I think she's just tired and needs the break. H is typically already gone when we get up and get ready but he is off today so was there and it threw our routine off a little and I think that was just the tipping point. She has dance tonight but then is officially on break and I'm relieved for it LOL.
I'm kind of behind in my holiday baking but last night I just said - welp, what gets done will be fine - it was a relief to just say that.

The school district right next to us just announced full virtual learning after winter break until January 24. Does that mean we're going remote, too? Aaaghhh!
