My grandpa normally gets his feet taken care of **waves hands** somewhere. No one (including him and his wife) can seem to tell us where.
He doesn't have any particular foot issues, he isn't diabetic or anything, but he isn't limber enough to reach his toes well. He's been in and out of the hospital for 6 weeks now with Covid and then complications.
I'm visiting him this week and want to take him to get his feet cleaned up. I'm pretty sure he just went to a regular manicure/pedicure place and got a pedicure without polish. But I also know that when I get pedicures they typically file a tiny bit of nail off, they don't do a major clip job.
What should I look for or be aware of?
And does anyone have specific suggestions of a place anywhere in the Fort Lauderdale to Boca Raton area? He lives inland between those two cities. He just had Covid so I'm not super worried about exposure for him but Covid precautions and good ventilation are a plus obviously.

They will cut his nails. They are use to it. He’s grandma and her BIL had standing monthly appointments at a nail salon. I can’t think of anything you need to be aware of. When I would take them we would all get pedicures like normal.

the pedi place probably only files your nails bc they’re short enough already. i’ve been to many places and they will cut your nails if they need it/if you ask them to.
another suggestion is the podiatrist for a medical pedi. there used to be people called chiropodists who would come and cut your nails but I don’t know if that’s a thing anymore. (this is art history knowledge not like 21st century knowledge).
I always get mine actually cut, I like them short thanks to years of pointe. Just tell them you want them trimmed. I just say “please cut them short.” They always offer to just file since I go every 2 weeks so they are never super long.

Does he go to a podiatrist for foot care? Or a nail salon for foot care? I think either would be fine, but if going to a salon just tell them what he wants.

So far he's always gone to a nail salon of some kind. According to the questionable info he and his wife are sharing.
I 80% trust anything they tell us. We have suddenly reached a point where we are trying to send another family member to important things like doctor appointments because they are getting a little unreliable.

Toi Nail Spa is amazing, and they have several locations in SE Florida area. They try to encourage pedicure extras but he should be fine with a basic pedicure.
According to my diabetic MIL, diabetics should not get pedicures from regular nail salons. As long as he isn’t diabetic, a regular nail salon pedicure should be fine. If he’s diabetic then I’d recommend just going to his podiatrist.

My parents live in a memory care facility and a podiatrist comes and gives “foot care” which is essentially a pedicure with a skin check to look for sores.

No diabetes so I am planning to do a regular pedicure.

It is recommended going once every 3-4weeks for proper maintenance.
Thank you! He used to go regularly but had been cautious with Covid. But since he just had Covid we are trying to get caught up on all the things. .y mom just took him for a haircut and I'm going to try to do feet and figure out if there is anything else he needs.

A lot of people are catching up with their care right now.
Just to add as a side note, if you decide to get your nails done too while your there they're a little heavy with the e-files on nail beds. However as long as you stick to basic mani/pedi you should be fine

There's a nail salon near me that always has elderly people in there getting pedicures (men and women). It's next to a Dialysis center so I'm guessing that's why so many elderly people are there. They do a great job and they know the older people who go in there. Maybe a nail salon that's near a retirement home or dialysis center might have more experience working with the elderly?

My grandfather goes to a podiatrist too. I don’t know, given the fact that he’s older I think I’d rather have someone with a medical background/in a medical setting taking care of these kinds of things. Too much risk of infection/ingrown nails, you know?

my step-dad also goes to a podiatrist for a pedicure. He used to get pedicures at a regular nail salon but discovered it was way cheaper at a podiatrist. But also, a regular nail salon will absolutely cut/clip toenails significantly man or woman.

My mom lives in a 55+ apartment community and has helped set up a nurse to come monthly to care for peoples toenails. Does he live somewhere that maybe this service would be available to him?
