Maybe? IDK. I'm not sure how I haven't had it yet, TBH. I work in an elementary school in a position where I see 100% of the student population on a weekly basis and we've been in person 100% of the time since the fall of 2020. My husband had it last December but I didn't. (Tested and did antibody testing a few weeks later, just to be sure.) I'm hopeful that I'm one of the lucky ones who is resistant to it, but I'm still masking and trying to social distance during times when cases climb.
I was thinking about doing a straight up Have You Had It poll but these answers indicate not as many had its as I thought.
Nobody I know in the Bay Area has had it except one family of probablys back in February 2020.
I expect another post ...Mexico case boom.
That would be us. We probably should have canceled but we paid for the fucking thing. It's creepy how cavalier people are...real life evidence of how it is in places other than SF. If we get out of here clean I'm going to light a candle at church.

On one hand it's a miracle we haven't had it yet. DH worked in person from the beginning and I was back in person limited pretty quickly. More and more I'm back on campus where we're just starting a vaccine policy, but guests can come in without proof. I had a group today who kept pulling their masks down, so I assume they're not vaxxed. My DH has slept in the basement, and worn a mask in the house this week when not in the basement due to exposure.
On the other hand, I'm pissed the eff off that this is still going on. We've done everything "right" except get boosters, which are hard in my area, and yet here we are. I will get boosted, I'm hoping January will calm down. We can't dine outdoors in the winter because it's too cold. I don't feel comfortable traveling, esp. if I'll have to stay inside. I keep saying I haven't given everything up to get effing COVID.
TMI question And not to get off track, but has any female who's been boosted had new, or continued period issues?
Resigned feels like a strong way to describe it. I will probably get it at some point. And I do the basics: vaxxed, boosted, masks in public. But I’m not taking every precaution and I am far from the most diligent people out there. I don’t know, at this point I’m kind of like “whatever happens will happen.” But I’m not being a total idiot 🤷🏼♀️

I think another issue is too the idiots who say "I've already had COVID and survived. I'm not getting the vax, I'll let my body build up immunity with COVID before I vax". No, that's not how it works. It's even worse when those people have kids. I live in a mostly blue state, where overall vax numbers are high (of course my area is the lowest vax rate). I'm closer to a redneck border state and terrified to take my dad out on Christmas. I also can't take one more "I'll pull my kids out of school if they require masks!" ::Shakes fist at clouds or "I'm vaxxed, but I'm not going anywhere that requires proof, I have rights!"

I'm a special snowflake because I currently have Covid for the first time, LOL! But I did know that stupid Omicron was going to get me. So I was really resigned to it but still pissed off because I got vaccinated and boosted and wore my mask pretty well.

Realistically, I think we'll get it eventually. I'm hoping it isn't until I hit my second trimester in a couple of weeks, or later. I also will be able to be boosted then, which I'm hoping will help. (I had a 103-degree fever for 36 hours with shot 2, so my OB recommends I wait, even though that is not her general recommendation.)
I did read this morning they are theorizing it is possible MN won't be hit as hard with Omicron because our Delta wave is just now waning. But who knows. MN is usually the last to peak, so it will be a while before we can tell.
I'm shocked we haven't had it yet based on the unavoidable work exposure we experience. I assume we will get it eventually but that doesn't mean I'm licking door knobs or ignoring science. I want it to be as mild as possible if we do so give me all the shots.
I think there is a good chance that I will get it eventually. I'm kind of moving things into slow motion due to Omicron right now, but once we better understand the parameters, I expect my family will open up more.

Anyone who thinks natural immunity is going to help them is laughably naive (not here, just hearing this elsewhere). Tell that to all the people at my job right now who are reinfected - some were never vaccinated, others received two doses and some others received the booster too. And they all have it again.
So whatever your level of resignation to getting it is, the fact is, no one is biologically immune to an Omicron infection right now.

Yes. And honestly I’d had been great for my mental health since I’ve made that switch. Adults are fully vaxed and have had our booster, the 5 year old is fully vaxed, and the three year old obviously is not. Kids go to mask required school/daycare but obviously they aren’t wearing them perfectly and have breaks at lunch and nap (for the younger one). We wear masks if we go inside a public place. We don’t take the kids for any kind of large shopping trip but we do bring them if we need to run in and grab something. We did have a few people over last weekend at our house without masks (that in light of Omicron we likely should have cancelled but didn’t). We are getting together with my parents and brother for Christmas and they are all vaxed and boostered but we aren’t asking anyone to test day of.
I’d prefer my son didn’t get it until he was able to be vaccinated for any hope that the vaccine may reduce the probability of long haul symptoms, but I can’t keep them home if school and daycare is open. I’m hoping that we stay out of the hospital (as the data suggests we would) and that we don’t have long haul symptoms.
ETA: I’m not totally resigned that we will get Omicron, although I think it’s likely it will blow through school or daycare, but I don’t see any way this doesn’t become endemic and imagine everyone in my family will get some variation of it at some point.

Yes. I work in two schools, in a district that just got rid of masking and quarantines (though this isn't actually allowed so we'll see where that goes), in a county with a lot of anti maskers (but a high vaccine rate, oddly enough). I'm sure sometime soon omicron will speed through the county. The bigger concern is my husband, who is immunocompromised. Our plan is just to keep taking rapid tests at first sign of anything so if he gets it he can get monoclonal antibodies (if that is still recommended with omicron) or the new drug that is expected to be approved under EUA tomorrow, and hope he has enough protection between that and vaccines that he stays out of the hospital.
We are still being as careful as we can, but it does seem inevitable.

Prior to omicron I thought it was 50/50. But now, yes we will probably get it.
I let DS drop his mask at school after being fully vaccinated since most of his classmates aren’t wearing them anyway. I hope he enjoyed that 6 days because after Christmas it’s going back on.
It seems that omicron is just starting to arrive in DFW. Our numbers in my county increased yesterday for the first time in a while. Ugh.
Yes, 100%. I’ve been resigned to the idea for awhile now and I think I won’t feel as guilty or like I did something wrong when I do get it. I would have felt incredibly guilty earlier on.
That said, haven’t had it yet that I am aware of. We test at home relatively often and for minor symptoms because Colorado has free Covid test kits that you can get at home. Feels like it’s only a matter of time though.

Both Miss R and I have had it (March 2021) and we’re both fully vaccinated and have some 🤞 antibodies left. Hopefully it’s enough to thwart any new variants.
I'm pretty surprised DS5.5 hasn't brought it home from school yet honestly. We're fully vaxxed and boosted in my house, mask when necessary & test as needed so hopefully it'll be mild for all of us when/if we get it. DS and I have comorbidities but we've done everything we can. It's not good for our mental health to isolate like we did for 18 months.

My friend has leukemia (vaccinated and boosted) and she had a breakthrough case last week. Her doctor gave her monoclonal antibodies and they helped so much! She had four days of bad headache and congestion and then four days of a high fever and congestion so she started the treatment and was finally feeling herself after ten days. She stayed out of hospital but was very sick. The good news now is that pill was approved--it was too late for my friend but not your husband. Also my friend doesn't go out much and WFH. We are so puzzled about how she got it--but her son goes to school so that's all we can think of. She does live in an area too that's unfortunately not as vaccinated. I do too and have Covid right now as well.
I’m honestly surprised so many people in this poll aren’t resigned to getting it.
But I’m an eternal pessimist.
yes I think the people with the best "shot" (ha ha) against Omicron are doubly vaccinated and boosted, introverted homebodies with no kids or kids that are homeschooled living in highly vaccinated areas and even those are not foolproof protection against Omicron--but it's a start! People that are not traveling, socializing, going into an office or parents. I know that doesn't describe many people. I am also bitter because I got Covid yesterday so I know now how how it feels when it's not hypothetical.

I feel pretty confident going through everyday life here. Everyone masks everywhere (I even send my kid with a mask to play dates — it’s expected), the vaccination rate is around 90% and my office is still mostly empty and I rarely see people during the week (I go in mostly for a change of scenery). I live in a place with good weather and we all socialize outdoors. We spend most weekends doing outdoor activities too. We can easily pull back on indoor dining again and not miss it.
If I do catch covid, I assume it’ll be because I traveled or decided to go to a large event like a basketball game. We have very strict mask and vaccine mandates (security comes around and enforces compliance) but of course nothing is foolproof.

I don't think at all about getting covid.
My son has been out in the world 5 days a week, either in school/daycare/combo, since June 2020. In the 18 months he was out there before his vaccination, he was a close contact one time. I've never been tested, my husband has never been tested.
I work from home, I go out to eat and shop as normal, although I would not attend a large indoor gathering.
I try to be careful and responsible, but I don't have covid anxiety.

3 out of the 10 unrelated people I know who got covid within the last 1-2 weeks live in the Bay Area and live/behave similarly. 2 of them are THE most covid cautious people I personally know (and they have not taken it well).
Anecdotes, I know, but *shrug*
Fair enough. I’m not saying I can’t catch it here, just that not everyone will catch it. You still have to interact with others to get it. Maybe I’m just a hermit ha (and despite all my anxiety, I probably fall on the “optimist” side of the spectrum. 🙃)
I'm not sure why people are trying to rain on the "I'm not resigned to get COVID" parade of people. Nobody here is saying they are going without masks or are taking crazy risks so to tell people they more then likely will get COVID is just...something....
Everyone keeps telling us we are in a Delta wave but one school had a 10 x increase in a week. My personal non healthcare opinion is that means Omicron is here and will take over the Delta variant.

To your last question, strangely enough, my period went a little haywire after my second dose and my cycle was quite short for 6 months. The cycle immediately following my booster was back to 28 days exactly. No idea if anything is related to the vaccine or booster, or my cycles are just wonky because I'm getting older.

I had it a year ago and yes I think it’s very likely I could have it again. Given that it was very mild I’m not nervous though I guess there’s no guarantee it won’t be different. I just wouldn’t want to give it to anyone who is older or in poor health.
DD had had several close contacts including not being one bit isolated from me when I had, it so I’m starting to wonder if she’s naturally immune or something. Same with H, who I can’t even remember ever really being sick at all since I’ve known him.
Weird thing is when I did get it, I have no idea how. I’d only been to work and home in the week or so prior, no one at work had it and no one in my home.
I'm not sure why people are trying to rain on the "I'm not resigned to get COVID" parade of people. Nobody here is saying they are going without masks or are taking crazy risks so to tell people they more then likely will get COVID is just...something....
Honestly it’s annoying, consider this a festivus grievance. We are already having essential Businesses close, like vets, due to outbreaks. We have no mask mandate and outside or orleans parish no vaccine requirement to eat indoors, so we are by no means doing all we can here to help stop the spread. I’m hoping these things are reinstated soon, but I won’t be doing those things for now. A month ago was a different story.
I agree that it's annoying. I'm not saying it's anyone in this thread, but IRL there are people I know going to multiple indoor holiday parties with many different groups of people and basically just using "everyone is going to get it anyhow" as their justification. Well, no, everyone ISN'T going to get it, and people are still dying en masse from this, so it'd really be great not to spread it even if your particular case might end up being mild.
I’m honestly surprised so many people in this poll aren’t resigned to getting it.
But I’m an eternal pessimist.
As always, it’s a bubble. I think there is still a general undercurrent of “If I just do X, then I won’t get it” on this board. That brings along with it a stigma when a diagnosis occurs, and the thought that it’s primarily the unvaccinated or people who aren’t doing XYZ who are the problem. And while that was certainly largely true in the past, Omicron is a game-changer.
I think we’re going to find that 6’ and 15 minutes of exposure is no longer the threshold of concern. From people who I know who recently tested positive, several haven’t been around ANYONE outside of their household for that period of time, especially without a mask.
Yeah my family had it but I feel like if we got it then we will get it again. The vaccination rate here is very high, I believe my state has the highest in the country and my city would be one of the highly vaccinated. We have been vaccinated and followed all the rules. We don’t attend concerts or large parties. We do now go to restaurants again.
My husband works from home 100% yet somehow got Covid and gave it to the whole family.
So I feel like if I live in a highly vaxed and masked place, we avoid crowds and live reasonably cautiously and we got it, I don’t see why we wouldn’t get it again.
