I left my iPad on a plane in SFO on 12/21. I’m so mad at myself. The “Find My” app tells me exactly where it is. I put a message on the Lock Screen through the app with my phone number and address. I was beginning to think about upgrading but I wasn’t quite ready for the hassle yet. I filled out the airline form with the flight & seat number and date. And I send it an instruction to make a noise every few days but I assume the battery is dead and the sound doesn’t actually play. I’m never going to get it back, am I?
Today I need to get all my paperwork in order for our Embassy appointment later this week to register DS as a US citizen and get his passport. I'm weirdly nervous about it - weirdly because I have everything in order, we're going today to take his passport picture and the rest is just a question of printing, but it's like when you see the police even though you're doing nothing wrong. What if they tell me all my documents aren't enough?! Also, you have to tell them every time you've been in the US like, ever, in your life. Umm yeah, I'm going to have to guess on that one buddy, I don't remember the exact dates of my trip home in 2008.
Tomorrow (weather pending) is back to "normal" and I'm having terrible anxiety about it. DH leaves so early for work that he can't help in the mornings (it's been this way forever except the COVID WFH period). So I have to get up, get ready to go into work, get the kid up, fed, to before care, and I'm leaving the puppy all day. My parents are coming to check on her at 9:30 and 12:30 and DH will be home at 3:30, but I'm just a ball of dread.
We've had a couple instances of the puppy not listening to come back inside and I'm going to just tell me dad to put her on the leash, but that means putting on her collar and then taking it off because she can't have it in the crate and this is when my mind just spirals. Ugh, and then I get to do it all again on Friday.
Dd has a virus similar to hand foot mouth, but no rash. She started throwing up Friday night, and still has diarrhea. Her fever finally broke yesterday and I’m hoping she can go back to school tomorrow.

I’m annoyed with my mom and sister. Sister lives with my parents. Has for years. My nephew is 16 and goes to high school two and a half blocks from home. This is pertinent info.
Since Joey (3month) was born, my mom has been taking my big kids to school. She offered, I didn’t ask her to, although I was nervous about getting them all out the door on time. Lucy (13, 8th grade) is very reluctant to go to school. H goes in to work at 6am.
Sister asked me today when mom is gonna stop taking my kids because she doesn’t want my nephew walking in the cold. (She works overnight and doesn’t get home in time to take him most days)
Seriously?
I’m trying to remind myself that my mom never told sister she was doing this, and wouldn’t be home to check that nephew left.

My husband is really really getting on my nerves.
We took down our tree, but still have Christmas everywhere because I was waiting for him to bring down the bins from the attic. Last night I see him bringing all these other boxes in and I ask him what he’s doing and he says this is all stuff I (as in me) need to go through and cull. I’ve been working my way through the rest of the house decluttering. There is no reason you need to bring these into the house right now and make a bigger mess than we already have.
Our waste management gave us a new huge wheeled recycle bin that doesn’t fit in the garage. He doesn’t always want to walk outside to throw things away so he kept our old bins in the garage and puts stuff in there. That’s fine, but then you need to be the one to empty them…and he doesn’t. We live in Florida and get roaches, ants and spiders regularly. So I notice he hasn’t taken them out and I go to dump it before trash come today. He rarely breaks down boxes so the big bin is pretty full and i had to go through it and find boxes he’s thrown in there before I can fit the new stuff. Then at the bottom of the garage bin are things that cannot be recycled..work papers, embellished Christmas cards. I have told him a million times that our recycling doesn’t allow for all paper and it’s like he doesn’t give a crap. So I’m peeling these wet nasty papers out of the bottom of it and I’ve had it with living with another person. Had it.
Both kids are going to school today, yay! Everyone has isolated, tested, waited, almost killed each other in the process...so ready. Neither kid ever tested positive, but I did and we all had the same symptoms, so assumed we all had it. Hope we did so we're all "good" for a little bit.
Fingers crossed everyone makes it through the day.

I'm sure it will all be fine. But - I'm in this boat minus anyone coming to help and it IS difficult, so don't beat yourself up for worrying. I hired a dog walker come to play with our pup in the yard and it's always been fine. I would recommend putting the collar on with or without the leash though.
What if you have to go to the bathroom? Take medicine? What if your phone's battery dies? What if you run out of gas?
Nightmare scenario. Legit nightmare.
ETA: Here's another article: www.cnn.com/2022/01/04/weather/winter-weather-tuesday/index.html. Interesting factoid in this article: On average, it takes about three days of temperatures above 50 degrees for about 2 to 4 inches of snow to melt. I didn't know that. Also, Tim Kaine is stuck in the traffic. Tweet text: I started my normal 2 hour drive to DC at 1pm yesterday. 19 hours later, I’m still not near the Capitol. My office is in touch with @vadot to see how we can help other Virginians in this situation. Please stay safe everyone.

I know when that happened on the turnpike in PA a few years back my friend's dad was stuck out in it. He's an 18 wheeler driver for Bob Evans. They instructed him to feed as many as he could with the microwaveable food in his truck and his single microwave in the cab. (I think he had help from other truckers heating it at least.)
We've been really spoiled so far this winter with the weather, it's been pretty mild. Now that it is getting cold, I'm miserable and don't want to leave the house. I know some people have it worse, but 23 degrees is pretty cold, even my dogs don't want to go out.
I'm exhausted from lack of sleep and overwhelmed with emails right now at work, so much that I just want to fuck it and walk away. Ugh. It's never worth taking time off when you have to come back to a shit-storm.
OMG. There is no "what if" I had to go to the bathroom in 18 hours. If I was awake for 18 hours I'd have to go at least 9 times, lol. That sounds absolutely awful. I don't know what I'd do - probably abandon my car and walk? I am not sure how remote that area is though.

My husband is the same way. I’ve told him repeatedly that our recycling only takes #1 and #2 plastics but he throws all plastic in the recycling can in the kitchen. I can usually fish it out before he takes the indoor can outside to the main recycling container. I have always wondered what happens though if those containers do go to wherever they collect the recycling materials. He can’t be the only one not paying attention to what number the plastic is and sometimes it’s really hard to see or find the number. Deep down inside I think the recycling container is basically trash container number 2 and only exists to make the conscientious townsfolk feel like they are making a difference.
I just turned down a fairly significant new contract at work because the school situation for my kids is so uncertain right now. I knew I wouldn't be able to handle the new work if the schools continue to close and/or have the kids go virtual, which seems likely. They were closed yesterday due to staffing issues, and despite entering pandemic year 3, they had absolutely no plan to handle the cascade of teachers with covid, while also refusing to mandate masks or require infected kids to stay home more than 3 days.
Our school district is such a shit show and I honestly don't know how we will ever recover.

I was just reading about this on WaPo. Crazy how big an impact a relatively short storm had. I think we got nearly a full 12" of snow in less than 8 hours 😳
I am so sore from shoveling yesterday, but going to have to go out and re-clear the end of my driveway. Thanks, snowplows! Of course DH is OOT, I think he's missed every snowstorm since we've lived in this house.

I don't get why he decided to drive at 1pm when the roads were clearly a mess and 95 was already backed up! Where is his staff!?

I didn't clear into the street because I was really hoping the plows would but they only cleared one tiny lane so there is like 10 feet into the street I need to clear. DH threw his back out, so it is me. I don't wanna lol.
I am taking care of car chores this morning. Got H's car in for an oil change first and now I'm getting the oil changed in my car. I feel like I'm winning the adulting game today lol.
I'm scanning the news on my phone while I wait, and the I95 mess is giving me flashbacks to a few years ago when the Atlanta area caught some snow/ice and a bunch of people (and school busses!) got stranded on the interstate. I hope everyone can get home soon!

Again, insomniaaaaaaagh. But I had no power yesterday bc it’s JANUARY and we have 8” of snow on the ground and I’m in a really bad mood. But I just killed a fucking MOSQUITO with far more violence than was required. I feel a little guilty about it. At least he didn’t suffer?
Omg this is not making me miss the snow. It once took me three hours to do a 30 minute commute on 95, and that was terrible enough. I gave my two weeks the next day because I could never do that drive again.
