You know how Laurel Bristow does her comedown on Fridays where there are no Covid questions? Can we have a randoms thread where we don't talk about it? Just Covid. Feel free to throw other c-words around with abandon.
1. My SIL gave me a candle for Christmas and I usually don't burn candles much, but for some reason I decided to burn this one in my office every day and I love it. It's almost gone lol It's from a shop local to her in Baltimore and called Sweater Weather so...not a describable scent, but it's so nice.
2. Eggo waffle quality rankings: 10 pack > 24 pack > Costco pack. Seriously. The waffles in these boxes are all different. It's like they sort them by how shitty they are and then package them that way.
1. Eggos are one of my favorites! The Apple Cinnamon are the best but only one grocery store around me carries them. I have to go out of my way but totally worth it.
2. I do not want that terrible December heat but this January cold isn’t fun either. Why can’t it just be like 55 with sun? My feet have been freezing all week.
TR , what's the shop? I may have to check it out. Once I burn through the 12+ other candles I have stocked up, lol.
I decided to treat myself to Starbucks this morning (since I wfh I don't usually go out in the mornings) and I accidentally sent my mobile order to the wrong store. It was another store in my town so I was able to go over and get it, but it meant spending more than 30 minutes driving around because I went to the store I thought I sent it to first, and it wasn't as hot as it should have been. Ugh. I don't know why my app defaulted to that store, I have never done a mobile order there before.
I am super behind at work. This is the downside to WFH and setting my own schedule. It's a little too easy for me to procrastinate. Really trying to buckle down today. I might have to temporarily block GBCN to save me from myself. LOL.
In other news, yesterday was the first day of GS cookie sales and DD is killing it already. It's been fun to watch her calling everyone. She is a born salesman-- her approach is to call people and say "What kind of cookies do you want to order" (as opposed to "Would you like to buy any cookies?") which is sort of accidentally brilliant. No opportunity to say that you don't want any LOL.
If I have to tell Big Kid to leave Little Kid alone after Little Kid has said no or stop one more time I'm going to loose my damn mind.
If anyone has good suggestions of consequences for this I'm all ears. My go-to consequence is usually the loss of screen time, but she doesn't get that much to begin with.

This happens when their app is down, it just picks whichever store still has preorder available. It was down for me this morning and I could only order from the app at one store within five miles of me. David had to be at school at 7am today and I'm rushing, realizing my gas tank is on empty, hauling ass to get my coffee and get him to school on time, lol. This only happens to me like once a year, but when it does it's a always a totally hectic morning!

YES! My dad use to always have these in his freezer when we were growing up. We would toast and just have butter and they were SO good. I haven't seen them in stores in a million years.
This shop is semi-local but I still haven't checked them out. Technically we're competition (I don't make candles though).
You should PM me the name of your shop so I can check that out too! (sorry if I have asked this before... I have a terrible memory)
ETA: Looks like your town is only about 25 minutes from me, but I have never even been there! That candle shop looks cute, I will have to stop in sometime.

LOL mine is the other way around. DD2 (3) terrorizes DD1 (6). My new rule is that if they keep fighting, I send them both to their rooms. It’s probably not fair, but I figure they need to learn to coexist without driving me nuts.

Oh no! I'm sorry your morning was hectic! That makes sense about the app, I guess I'll just have to pay more attention next time!
We have vowed to stop eating out so much and go back to never ordering in. Except pizza once a week. I don't know when we became people who ordered wings, Chinese and Mexican delivery regularly, but it has to stop!
This will be the 2nd week of all homemade meals, including all of our lunches. Next week I have my book club (husband and son always have burgers on my night out) and a dine to donate for school so a planned dinner out which means we will definitely make it 3 weeks. The food has been great and I'm proud of us - but this is the rest of our lives?!?!? Last night after work I had soup on the stove, was prepping chicken (that I put in the crockpot before work this morning), and made the sauce for another crockpot chicken meal so I could freeze it with the rest of the chicken for a ready to go meal another day. It's not as much fun as ANYTHING ELSE I could have been doing.

Kids are at school and it is another super cold day. Going thru clothes and toys to donate, hope to drop off a load later.
DS1 is spending the weekend at my parent's house. The younger 2 have bball practice tonight and both have games tomorrow. It's DH's turn to take them, so I will have a quiet house for a couple hours tonight!
I sold the kids' big indoor hugglepod swing yesterday. They got their use out of it for years, but haven't used it much recently. That frees up room in the basement which I'm sure they will use for more rough housing. I'm going to surprise them with new games for their switches with the money I sold it for.
We bought 2 new cars a year ago and now we know DH is going to be WFH going forward and he has barely put any miles on his car. For fun we plugged in the info on Carmax and they offered 5k over what we spent. We are tempted to sell it and take the money to invest. Not sure we would regret it or not but it is sitting depreciating vs 5 figure sum we could invest has us considering, plus so much more room in the garage. Everything fits with our 2 cars now, but would be easier to get bikes in and out for example. Hmmmm
TR , wildrice , Might I also suggest unwinedcandles.com for candles. They're in my town, great people, and wonderful product.
Oh man, these are just like Rewined Candles which I used to buy in Charleston because they were just a local Charleston shop and now they're sold freaking everywhere. I feel very hipster about them lol.

Oh, Little Kid absolutely does it to Big Kid too. But it's a lot easier (and more effective) to put Little Kid in time out than Big Kid. They're 3 and 9, so Little Kid is still in the "I'm going to model behavior I see in other people" phase, so she's giving it right back to Big Kid (and gets removed or redirected every time, to be clear).

And speaking of candles, my Mom gave me a candle with no label on it and it was the best smelling candle ever and she forgets where she bought it, but thinks it was pomegranate and lime. I miss it.

I would 100% sell. We've been a 1 car household most of our relationship and it's been totally fine. Once we get around to selling our 2nd car, we're going back to it since we both WFH. It's just not worth paying to keep a car that is barely driven, IMO, and it's not that hard to coordinate with one another on the rare occasion that we both need to go somewhere.

It's not your fault, the app has you pick a "home" store so they should notify you if it's changing stores. This is the first time I've noticed that it changed stores before going to my regular SB to pick it up. My store knows me and just makes my order for me for free.

I wish the app was smart enough to know which stores are closest to you. It's literally impossible to order from the wrong McDonalds on the app because you can't pick it up until you're basically in their parking lot. It's annoying in some ways, but has saved me a few times.
And now I just admitted that I feed my kids McDonalds enough to know how their app works. LOL
Anyway--it's 2022 and the Starbucks app should be smarter than it is (DD too).
maudefindlay - we recently went down to one car for the same reason that H is wfh all the time (and I am too for the time being, but won't forever) and it's been fine. But we don't have kids who need to be moved around to various activities so that might make it harder.

We implemented a "one order out night per week" policy years ago. I love and hate it. Does save us money, but having to cook every night.... ugh. H has picked up at least one night of cooking a week, and if hes not home I usually do something quick like eggs for the kids.

I've been burning a candle every evening to try and use up some of my stock so I don't have to move them (assuming I find a job and move). It's been so nice! I'll have to keep it up.

scuttlebuttsoap.com <-- me. No storefront (yet) just the online shop. It's all bar soap, I haven't added anything else to my line-up yet, though I'm planning on shave soaps and solid shampoo/conditioner sometime this year.
It was - 1 when I woke up, and had warmed up to a balmy 5*. My dogs are dying for a walk, but that's still too cold for all of us.
What's your temperature limit for taking your dogs outside (for more than a bathroom break)?
A shelf in our laundry/mud/pet food room broke this morning after we had just woken up. Cat food and other stuff was all over the floor. Not a great way to start the day, and I really don't want to spend the $ on a new one. We've just been bleeding money on repairs and other things we have to do, so have no money for any of the projects/purchases we actually want. 2022 is already a shitty year, I'm over it.
