Feels like -9 here and still saw a kid at bus stop in shorts, ha! (I know he may have sensory issues, just made me shiver to see those tiny bare legs).
Going thru books today. Hopefully have a large stack to donate later today.
I wanted to order DH toffee for Christmas, but could not recall the name of the candy store I last ordered from, he loved theirs. Just remembered it and ordered a variety of flavors and will give to him for Valentine's.
I bought cotton candy grapes. They don't taste like cotton candy.
It's supposed to snow again this weekend. That's a no from me. Two weekends in a row in unacceptable.
I'm not sure my apple watch is all I was hoping or maybe it's a user thing? I mean it's cool and does some fun stuff, but it's also a little passive aggressive and will give me like 5 minutes of exercise for a 20 minute dog walk. And then at 7pm when it's cold and dark be like "hey, just a brisk 20 minute walk and you'll reach your goal." I miss my vivomove, but it stopped working with my iphone 13.
So very cold here too and I hate it. I had my car heat set at 76 and seat heater all the way up and I was still cold! Thankful that I have a garage to park in at home and I park in the parking ramp connected to my building at work so I wasn't out in it too long but still was painful. I'm ready for summer already!
I played hooky yesterday and went skiing with my H after dropping the kids at school. It was so nice. It was EMPTY and the snow was not bad (for DC area standards LOL). I got so many runs in that by 12:30 or so we called it a day. Got huge ass burgers and a beer for lunch and went home to take naps.
I'm so glad we pulled the trigger on skis last year. We never would have done this if we had to rent.
But now I am paying for it with tons of work to do. Womp womp.

I was looking at the contract my partner has for the musical he wrote the music for, just out of curiosity, and now I have so many questions about what it’s like to be a lawyer lol.
Do you have to write all that from scratch (I think the document is 27 pages)? Or are there templates to start from? I guess you have to go back and re-read everything as changes are made? That seems so tedious! Do you have to look up stuff/reference stuff often when writing contracts or you mostly have things memorized? In law school I guess you learn lawyer speak lol, cause the sentences read "fancy." What happens if 2 sides don’t agree on a contract?
Thank goodness for lawyers because eeek that is not for me!
I am trying to find a flight to go down and visit my parents and my sister's family this spring, and my parameters are apparently too narrow. I'm not supposed to take any time off work for the first 90 days, which means I'm trying to find evening/early morning flights. I am planning to work from their house for a couple of days while I'm down there. It's probably fine if I miss an hour or two of work hours because I can just start early/stay late and make up the time, but I can't really do a half day or a full day off yet. Anyway, I can't find anything that works and I'm annoyed. I found a perfect schedule a couple of weeks ago, but my mom thought she had a friend visiting that weekend so I didn't book. Her friend cancelled and of course the original flights are no longer available. Ugh.
ETA: Never mind, this rant prompted me to look again and I found flights that will work. I am flying both ways in the evening, which isn't my preference but whatever, at least it works. Yay!
I am struggling with only having 15 vacation days. I honestly don't know if this is sustainable. My BFF texted me yesterday and said she wants to plan a 50th birthday trip for her H, possibly to Vegas, and I want to go but all of these people who live in other places who I want to see might break me. I have at least 3 other summer visit trips already tentatively planned, plus this visit to my family, plus we are going to Croatia in May. And I had hoped to go to Turkey with my parents in the fall, but we may be pushing that to next spring anyway. Ugh. When is retirement?
I'm so intrigued by a young woman at work. This morning on a Teams call, she just mentioned that she hasn't seen TV for a few years now. I know different strokes and all, but at all? For years? She also only has a first name. On all company stuff, email included, I haven't seen anyone else with that naming convention. And her thumbnail picture is interesting too! Very goth. Black lipstick, 70s style black headband, mesh shirt under a black jacket. All around, seems like a very unique person.
An annual black-tie event that was cancelled last year was postponed again this year, but now that it has a date I decided to buy a dress and book a hotel room just so I have something to look forward to. If it gets cancelled or we don't feel comfortable going, I'm still going to wear this dress in my fancy hotel room and order all the room service dammit.

This part is weird. Are you setting an activity before you leave? Even if I don't, mine usually takes 10 minutes to catch up, but it will buzz and say "It looks like you're on an Outdoor Walk. Record?" and then when I do it starts at 10 minutes in so it's covering most everything, I think.
You can also tell it to STFU about goal reminders. I did that for mine. It's a setting under My Watch > Notifications > Activity
I’m in one of those moods where I want to completely redecorate my house. Like, just start from scratch. Of course, I don’t have a budget for that, lol, so I’m going to try just moving some things around and picking up just a few new things.

On Wednesdays DH takes the kids to school and I get the morning to do what I want/need (I still have to be at work by 8:30 but I’m only in charge of meeee!) I thought I’d get up to do the Peloton Encanto ride but it’s not until later so I’m just laying in bed now.
TR, I do try and set the outdoor walk before we go and I get that we're not walking that fast, but dang, she doesn't stop to smell that much (I don't think?).
I do need to turn off the notifications, I've just been lazy and getting used to it.
Maybe it's because I'm fat and lazy, so my HR doesn't get to where it thinks I'm exercising enough?

wanderingback, not a lawyer, but I draft contracts for a living (well before I went to management).
We have a contract writing system, but you do have to add details. Once it spits out the draft though, you do have to review the whole thing, but eventually you get fast enough that I know where there may be issues for things, so I can skip over the boiler plate info.

This is my sister and her H. They loudly declare that they don't have a TV, but they watch quite a bit on laptops. (My sister is not all smug about it but my BIL is so smug about it).

It's just weird because if you have an activity running, that should count as activity minutes no matter your pace or HR. I remember having an issue when I was using it to tracking walking on my under desk treadmill, but now I can't remember exactly what it was, I'll go back and look at my post history lol. I thought it had something to do with it being indoor vs. outdoor.

It was in response to someone asking if anyone had watched the Boba Fett show so I think she meant any form. But who knows lol if there was anyone I'd believe really hadn't watched at TV programs at all for years, it would be her.
H and I have found a major downside for us to not physically going into work: we both got built in exercise. I worked in a giant school building and walked all over that building inside & out every day. H had a long commute that included a 15-20 minute walk each way and he usually walked around downtown Seattle on his lunch break. We both really dislike exercise in other forms. I mean I like going for walks but not alone. Also it's literally freezing here and the sidewalks are covered in dirty snow from our 18" at the beginning of the month.
We no longer live in the Seattle area, in case that wasn't clear. Also, we don't feel comfortable inside gyms in our red city right now.
Maybe an exercise bike could help. I'm not convinced it wouldn't immediately be covered in clothes or dust though...

Well, my poor sweet tiny, tiny baby boy (16) has tested positive for COVID. Thankfully, we haven't been anywhere in several days. My husband and I have both been working from home. So, hopefully he didn't spread it. He is vaccinated, but has feel like poo this week for sure.
We are getting so close to closing on our old house (we sign 9am Friday). I need it to close, but I also am SO SAD. The thing that pushed us to move was really horrible and although I LOVE our new house, sometimes the reason for the move breaks my heart all over again.

I feel this way about anyone in the music industry. H talks jargon that confuses me. I still do not understand how artist are paid royalties. PROs (the people who pay out royalties) are so intriguing. Then I go in the rabbit hole and get even more confused. I will let the lawyers and artist teams figure it out. I will stick to my shipping woes and accounting knowledge.
I mentioned the candle my SIL got me for Christmas before. It's all burned up so I want another one, but shipping is $$$$ (small business) unless I spend $60+ sooooo now I'm ordering 4 candles lol
If it's now 30 days from Christmas and your asshole BIL has made no attempt to get together, can I use the gift card we bought him and the little gift set for his girlfriend? I mean, I tried, but they made plans with her family, then got COVID, and now radio silence...

I've been noticing this struggle too. I move much less and need to make a conscious effort to move, but I don't. If you figure it out- please let me know!

I'm in this phase too. But also have no budget and also have zero decoration sense to be able to do things. In my dream world, I'd have an extra $xxxxx money laying around that I'd give to someone to redo my house while I'm on vacation.

I work in contracting but am not a lawyer. We have all our work reviewed by a lawyer. There are usually templates or a procurement system and we remove/add clauses (Terms and Conditions) as they are applicable. I often look up references due to constant changes in the field. If they don't agree on a solicitation then the contract isn't signed and you can negotiate most things unless unlawful. If the contract is signed and one party says it means x and one party thinks it means y then it is by layman's terms. It can go to court for interpretation issues and the responsibility of clarity falls to the writer of the contract.

I’ve definitely noticed Apple not counting my walk toward “activity minutes” because my heart rate didn’t get up very high (i think 110 bpm was the cutoff). I legit went on a 10-mile hike one day (level terrain, easy-ish pace) and it only gave me like 19 activity minutes. It seems to be better lately though. I haven’t has this problem with any other forms of activity though — like if I pick functional strength training and just stand around not doing anything, it will give me activity minutes.
We're late to the party I guess, but husband tested positive. Son and I tested negative but now I'm sick so I'm sure I have it. It's "funny" that my son's school says he has to stay out 10 days, doesn't matter if he doesn't get sick and cannot test at any point to come back before 10 days, but my husband's hospital keeps telling him that if he doesn't have a fever over 99.6 he needs to return to work. It shouldn't surprise me since he has coworkers who have tested positive at work and have been told to stay, and they "can't" tell them if coworkers have covid. Apparently hospitals are exempt from informing people they've been exposed. eyeroll
