Just saw my SIL at the store while I was out getting snow shovels (when I asked yesterday if we needed anything while I was out, that's when you say snow shovels DH, now I'm out in the before storm rain.) Anyhow SIL showed me a photo on her phone that her son/my nephew sent from college. He and friends got the hood off a wrecked car and are making a sled today in anticipation of the blizzard coming. Putting their engineering studies to good use! I'm so excited to see pictures of them using it tomorrow.
Last night my son excitedly told me to look at his standardized testing scores from last year. He had just seen his scores and couldn't believe how well he'd done! He didn't even try!
So I log in, and his scores were all average. Turns out that they mark average scores as "Proficient", which they abbreviated to "Pro". (As opposed to "advanced"/"Adv" for higher scores)
So he thought they had declared him a "pro" at everything and was so earnestly proud. 🤣🤣
My final jeans update (brief recap - husband ordered a bunch of jeans from all kinds of different stores and dealt with the returns): I found three that I love plus a brand I hadn’t really tried before bc I didn’t realize they had plus size. Madewell for the win! My top two came from there and the other winner was the gap.
Every morning while in the parent drop off line I wonder how we have been doing this for 5 months now and parents still can’t figure it out. It makes me scared for some parents kids.
Also one of my coworkers has been out for 8 weeks now and no work has come up that needs to be done while she’s gone. It’s not like we didn’t know this before but I’m shocked that the boss doesn’t seem to care.
My friends are all on a plane to Mexico right now - I cancelled about a month ago due to omicron (I’m immunocompromised, was only eligible to get my booster 3 days ago, needed to wait for things to calm down). I’m having very middle school feelings over being excluded etc even though I know it’s not fair. Previous trips and gatherings have been cancelled or postponed when someone couldn’t make it, but this one was very “sorry you can’t come, bye!”. I get that everyone else doesn’t need to pause their lives because of my health issues but it still stings. I obviously need to talk to my therapist lol.
I got today's Wordle in 2 tries for the first time, but was disappointed all the same lol
It was in the mid-60s yesterday and 50 now, but the temp is going to drop all day and we'll start getting rain this afternoon turning into wintry mix overnight. Good times.

I hate anxiety. I don't know why I have to have this. I don't need medication for it, I know that it directly relates to my caffeine intake and lack of sleep. Such a vicious self induced cycle of ridiculousness.
Snow has started here, one kid still sleeping, the other is up and gaming. She technically has online school, but I told her she doesn’t have to go today. Snow days are for playing, not sitting in front of a screen for 7 hours.
PDQ
And honestly, she won’t be missing anything. They have no teacher (out on medial leave since literally the first day of school), the long-term sub just quit, the building sub and TA are just teaching pre-fab slides from the district. She is in an independent study math class, so she’ll do that, and just hang/play today. And the other 5th grade class ALSO has no teacher, because she quit 2 weeks ago, so our class sub can’t even find instructional support there.
So yeah, not forcing online school in this shitshow situation. #notsorry

Standardized tests are the actual worst so I would 100% let my kid continue to think that!
I’m stuck in DMV waiting room purgatory right now. Going on 45 minutes…
I did this on Monday and DD had to come with me. She vowed to walk for the rest of her life before going back. They couldn’t find our address though two licensed drivers reside here and the house is 35 years old. They asked if it was still standing. They canceled my appointment, but kept hers. The system would not allow two appointments with the same address and phone number. Two different names and DOBs, but flagged as a duplicate. I had to grab a number and wait. She is traumatized. Lol

My job once again proving they don't value employees. It's a snow day, but if you have a laptop, you're required to work. Employees that can't work, will get 8 hours of leave, everyone else is expected to clock in like normal. So I plan to mostly goof off and look for other jobs.
devonpow, I'm sorry. That stings, even though I am sure it's not personal. If it makes you feel any better, my parents were supposed to go to Mexico today too and cancelled because they were worried about airport staffing issues. Apparently Cancun and at least a couple of other airports were having trouble processing people because so many people were out sick, so flights were a mess and travel was horrible. My parents just had COVID over the holidays or else I'm sure that would have been a consideration too (they are also boosted so are unlikely to get sick again in the short term, at least). So, I think you made a good choice!
jinkies that's hilarious and sweet. I love the confidence!
I have to go the DMV sometime this week too - it should probably be today. I just have to drop off the tags from our car that we sold on Monday, so I am hoping I can just pop in and out without much trouble- I think it may even be a dropbox? We ended up getting rid of our Buick. We sold it for $900, which was disappointingly low given the money we put into it last year and the $300 we spent having it evaluated last week, but at least we're done with it. I don't think we would have netted more than $1000-1500 after fixing it up and selling it privately, so it was nice to just offload it to a car buying place and be done. I am happy to be a 1 car household again. Having 2 cars has been more of a hassle than a benefit since the pandemic started and we've rarely needed to drive them both at once.
I had my first class of the semester last night. It was weird being on campus. I used to work there so I was there every day, and now it has been something like 7 weeks since I was there. It made me feel a little of that homesickness feeling. I really like my new org, but it's been weird onboarding remotely and I miss the people I knew at my old job.
Snowed in today and tomorrow. Everything here is closed. We've gotten 8+" so far since last night and it's still snowing most of the day today. That's round 1 and then more comes overnight tonight plus 30 MPH which will bring blowing and drifting. My school called it around 2 yesterday for both today and tomorrow. At this point, being a rural district, I'm wondering about Friday even.
I am soaking up every bit of deliciousness of my last snow days ever since I start my new non-teaching job in two weeks.

Between dance competitions and my sister's wedding, we are basically bleeding money until May. Plus, DH found a piece of metal in his tire yesterday and they had to replace it - $300.
My sister texted the bridal party yesterday to tell us that makeup will be $90 and hair will be $100. DD's will be cheaper because she's only 10, but LORD.

I found a sleep shirt on Athleta that looks super comfy, but it's $64 and I'm having a hard time spending that on something to sleep in lol which doesn't make sense because I'd wear it every day so the cost per wear would be lower than my regular clothes.

Also, if you read my post yesterday, I'm now signed up for summer camp! It's just a weekend and DD and her bf will love it and bf's Mom and I will find the fun in it I'm sure.

I felt that way about a Tommy John set and then said eff it!
