I recommended a patient go to the emergency department yesterday, which is very rare for me, I don’t think I’ve done that in over 2 years.
Anyway, I was texting with her while she was there and thankfully all was well and she got all the tests to rule out the possibly life threatening thing we thought was going on.
She was so appreciative of my help, so that made me feel good. Much better than patients yelling at you! I’ll prob eventually get out of full time direct patient care at some point in the future, but interactions like that make all the bullshit of insurance companies and paperwork worth it. I don’t want to give that kind of patient interaction up too soon!
You're such an awesome doctor, wanderingback! I wish more doctors were like you. My gyn sent me to the ER this past September to get a blood transfusion. No only did she never check up on me, but I don't even think I got so much as a "good luck" from her when I left the exam room. I followed up with a different gyn in the practice 2 weeks later who was so kind and caring-- I'll be seeing him from now on.

I can’t remember the last time both my kids were in school for a full week. I think it was before Halloween. Between illness, weather, and school holidays one of them is always home. This week might be the week we get a full week from both kids. H is also back in the office this week. I’m looking forward to the next two days! No one is depending on me for anything except work. I am going to Michaels on my lunch. I may grab takeout for lunch.
I remember being irritated by this at the time. I think I decided it was post Friday night dinner. She was sewing after they got home because she does everything last minute and since they didn’t bring the dance up at dinner, Emily called because she was annoyed they didn’t talk about it and assumed she still wasn’t going. It has been a long time since I’ve seen that episode though.
I always notice stuff like this! It is the worst with books. I wish there was a job where you could just read for continuity, timelines and the correct pop culture references.
Yeah, that's what has to have happened, but it's weird because they usually always show Friday Night Dinner. It's such a "thing". And then why did she say "Saturday night" instead of "tomorrow night"? lol Just call me Alexander Hamilton because I will never be satisfied.
I think they used the names of days of the week a lot more than most people. Maybe because of the Friday night dinner thing it became a tic for the writers? I don’t know. It was always SUNDAY is the festival, are you going to Paris’ on THURSDAY?
They didn’t show as many Friday night dinners as you’d think though, there were a few episodes that took place over a week’s span and they’d only show one or none or there would be little timeline skips. They must have had to skip it for that episode for time’s sake. They should have thrown in a line with “I waited all night and you didn’t bring it up so I have to…why isn’t Rory going to the dance!?” instead.
I'm on Day 2 of trying to get fish oil supplements out of a load of laundry. Vinegar, borax, dawn/baking soda did not work.
I did a same day Amazon order for the first time and have Natures Miracle laundry additive coming this afternoon (the company that makes the enzyme that gets rid of pet pee).
wanderingback have you ever had patients argue with you about going to the ER? My BFF is a nurse practitioner and she was on call one weekend and had two patients that she recommended to go to the ER and both of them argued with her! One wouldn’t go and kept trying to get her to make an appointment in the office on Monday (this was at 3am on a Sunday).
Yes of course. To be honest some clinicians do send people to the ER inappropriately so I don’t fault people for arguing sometimes lol. Unfortunately with some people needing to practice defensive medicine because they’re worried about being sued and the shortage of primary care doctors/appointment availability the ER can sometimes be a dumping ground for things that in an ideal world would be handled in the outpatient world. Or sometimes people don’t know ER care isn’t appropriate. Thankfully doing several ER rotations during both med school and residency helped teach me the nuances of that care.
That being said I typically try to explain my rationale well about why I think the ER is the best place for care as it’s usually the last resort and off the top of my head I think all people have gone in when I recommended it.
Where I work now the nurse practitioner would get freaked out by high blood pressures, like 160/100 in asymptomatic people and always want to send them to the ER. So I had to explain that no that’s not appropriate, they can just be started on meds in the outpatient setting, and that actually lowering BP quickly can also be problematic. So yes sometimes it is appropriate to argue lol cause it’s rarely ever appropriate to send an asymptomatic person with high blood pressure to the ER. Just one example
My trainer texted me Sunday morning to cancel our appointments for this week because she has COVID. I last trained with her Thursday so despite not having any symptoms, I tested Sunday. Negative. Yesterday I had a massive headache and was extremely tired so I figured I better test again. Negative. Today I’m stuffy and have a headache again. I have one test left. Can’t decide if I should test again or just stay the fuck home.
Is it weird to call a grocery store and ask if they have a specific item in stock? I need some Barkeeper's Friend and it was out at the store I usually go to. I don't want to drive out of my way if it's going to be out at the next closest store, too. But I don't know if that's too lazy.

Does this store offer online pickup? Usually their online pick up order system has up to date inventory. This is how I check a store's stock instead of driving all over town.
Lately I can't stop thinking about getting a second beagle. As my dog gets older I am seriously paralyzed in fear about my mental health if something were to happen. I even brought it up to my therapist and he was not helpful with his "a second dog sound nice". No!! Tell me I'm crazy and it's a bad idea. Beagles are fucking lunatics.
My cat died of cancer in June and I need another cat in my life for my mental health. My therapist agrees with me. I just have to convince my H. He has a delusional plan that if we don't have a cat our friends who live 2.5 hours away from us (we moved away from them) and are more covid cautious (we are very cautious ourselves) than us will come visit. We have a surprising amount of friends who are allergic to cats. Anyways, I'm working on asking for what I need while also not dashing H's hopes and dreams. *sigh*

No, this chain is pretty bad about that. The one time I tried, it let me add everything and then later they called to say, "Oh, we don't have this or this or this."

On Friday, at noon, a company reached out via email and asked if I was still interested in a position, and said if I was, they'd set up an interview. It's been almost 48 business hours, can I reach back out to them? I'd love to get an interview set up for this week because I have another position that I'm interviewing for, but think I'd prefer this other one.

So you responded their initial email saying yes, but haven’t gotten an interview date yet? I’d give them another day or two.
ETA: that may be trying coordinate schedules of interviewers and might not have started that process until yesterday.
Last year I took advantage of a $20 Washington Post deal for a digital subscription. This morning I was thinking that I should check the date it renews because I thought it was coming up. No, it passed last week, and I’ve been charged $100. Ugh, this was a pricey mistake.

Oh no, I hate it when I do that! You might be able to cancel and get a prorated amount back. But you might have to call or chat with their customer service (if they have one? no idea how that works for something like a newspaper).
Whenever we do subscriptions, H puts a reminder on our calendar for when they expire because we have done this too many times also. (He's in charge because I always forget LOL).
DH got me a cast iron bread baker for Christmas, and with the exception of last week, I have managed to screw up something in the bake, so I was determined to get it right again today.
I was feeling so accomplished this morning because I got up really early, shaped the loaf, and put it in the oven to proof. Sometimes, it seems like the dough has over proofed in the overnight rise, so I wasn't annoyed with Fiona when she got me up early today. Unfortunately, my timing was off. It overlapped with DH's morning routine (he makes our tea first thing every morning), and instead of me actually baking the bread after he goes out to the office, I was putting it in the oven around the same time he was putting the pot on to boil. I'm not sure who set it first, but we wound up screwing up the timers for each other.
Eventually, both the tea and the bread came out okay, but I had planned to note the timing for future reference, and instead, I had no idea where I was at in the bake. I don't know if I took off the lid at the right time or how long it actually took to bake. Maybe next week, I'll get it right. lol

Happened to me last year. H was like, “Did you buy something from Washington Post?” And I was like, “No…shit.” I immediately canceled so it wouldn’t renew, but I just had the subscription for the next year.

no people do this all the time. Just specify your asking if they currently have it, not just if they carry it. Random, but I can almost never find barkeeper's friend idk what it is. I also feel like i go through it super fast. Anytime I see it at a store I pick it up because then it may be months before I find it again.
I have a Google pixel and I hate the keyboard. It never autocorrects very obvious mistakes, but then will autocorrect things I have right. Like it just changed "autocorrect" to "autocorrected". Also when I double tap to select a word it will select a few words randomly.
I wanted to get away from apple, but little things like that drive me crazy on this phone so I feel like I'm going back to apple after this. I also didn't get enough sleep so I'm easily irritated right now.

No, not weird at all. That’s what store clerks are there for to help with.

womet sorry you had to deal with that but glad you found a new doctor. Thankfully I seem to have a manageable patient panel so it doesn’t seem too daunting to call or text or message people to check in, but I do know it can be overwhelming depending on the job setting.
Are there any HR folks around? Something happened at work and I'm very curious as to what could possibly happen.
PDQ
========
Co-worker's husband harassed his wife's former colleagues from previous job via FB comments. VERY colorful language and general douche like bullying. I'm not aware if coworker saw the comments or not, if coworker is friends with them all, then likely yes. These comments were made on individual profiles, not on any organizations pages.
The staff he's harassing all work at a place our org focuses around. Our org supports these types of workplaces through several support programs.
A worker from this place sent us screen grabs of the husband's comments via our FB messenger and asked us to tell coworker to tell her husband to stop harassing them and said they will no longer support us. I ONLY know this because I manage our FB page.
HR and the executive team were notified.
========
What do you think will happen to coworker? Curious what the repercussions would be if it's your husband is the one who caused all the trouble, not you.
I finally accomplished something I started 2 years ago today. Fuck you ADHD! I got this.
BF’s dad is so sweet. After the kids rooming together became trying for all of us, he is sleeping in the basement and keeps saying it’s no problem. They both went to bed without drama and were asleep before 8:30 last night, so my morning was the easiest it’s been in a week! I owe him a pizza or something.
It’s been such a nothing burger to move in together. It seemed like a huge deal to get used to living with XH and there were a lot of growing pains. Is this what it’s like to be with an adult? Lol

The layoff/job loss thing is a mind f*ck. Esp when your position is eliminated, or outsourced (re: you didn't do anything wrong). No one follows WARN laws (if those are even still a thing), so often times you go in one day to find out you don't have a job. The worst part is having to take any job just to start working again, rather than the right job. I'll say it's held my career back a lot. Anyway ((( lilafowler,))) I hope that you get the right opportunity soon.
I was told a couple of weeks ago to go to the ER if the issue I was posting about got really bad. I didn't go because as said above it's a 5+ hour wait, with a lot of COVID exposure, just to be told to call your GYN, who told you to go the ER. Thankfully someone at Urgent care gave me a different strategy if I need to go to the ER. I'm finally seeing a whole new practice later this week. Going on week 4 I just pray they'll take me seriously and get me help. wanderingback, I wish you could be all of our doctors, because you actually take your patiences (esp women!) health seriously. The follow up is so unheard of.
silva assuming you live in an at-will employment state and this is a client your org wishes to keep, I wouldn't be surprised if they let her go. I don't think it's likely that there is an actual HR policy addressing this, and it doesn't fall under any traditional legal policies (that I am aware of) but it seems like it would be bad PR to keep her on the staff. Hopefully they would ask her to resign and/or pay severance since this was technically not her fault, but keeping her seems like a liability.
I feel so bad for her! Assuming she is truly an innocent party, this is such a shitty thing for her H to do to her.
