I feel like I asked this same thing not long ago but I cannot find my post 🤦🏼♀️
What is a hotel you would recommend for me and my family (3 kids 2 adults) to stay in Washington DC in April for 4 days? We would really like it to have an indoor pool.

We stayed here last summer and it was great! Super easy to get in and out of, very close to DC, great breakfast, and it had a pool but it was closed when we were there due to Covid so check that first!
There was also an amazing park across the street the kids loved.

There is an Embassy Suites on 22nd St NW that has an indoor pool. I used to live around the corner and it is a quiet block but fairly close to the red, orange, and blue lines. It is also a fairly easy walk to Georgetown.
Super random, but the CVS on 22nd and M is the best CVS. I lived there in 2009 and I still remember it fondly, lol.

Thanks. Did it feel like a big deal to be outside of DC? I can’t decide if I will care about that or not.
IMO it’s not a big deal to stay in Arlington if it otherwise fits your needs. Remember Arlington used to be apart of DC. It’s not far & Ballston area has restaurants & stuff, very close to DCA

If you stay here, there is a bakery nearby that is amazing!! Tatte Bakery, at 1200 New Hampshire Ave NW, has a great breakfast menu. They get really busy on weekends, but we were there early. The morning bun is my favorite! My husband and I stayed in this area for a staycation weekend in November. Great area!

Per Google Maps (so you may want to double check about open amenities with Covid), there are 3 Marriott Residence Inns just over the river that have indoor pools: in order of closeness to DC, Rosslyn, Arlingon Courthouse, and Ballston.
Provided a) you are comfortable with public transportation and b) the Metro is in decent shape as far as the Blue and Orange lines (former DC resident here; it was great when we lived there but friends who are still there say it’s suffered during the pandemic like subways in many other cities), it would be no problem at all. Rosslyn, the closest-in, is a nice walk over Key Bridge from Georgetown and only a few stops from the major DC sights. Arlington Courthouse has a Whole Foods and a bunch of restaurants that are walkable, and it’s only one stop further out from DC than Rosslyn.

Thank you this is super helpful.
We live not super far from DC so although we have been plenty of times (although none with all three kids) we have only gone for day trips. So I haven’t really given much thought to the layout since we parked somewhere good and kept the car there all day.
I am totally fine with public transportation - my husband is very COVID cautious and he is feeling nervous about it but I think the time has come where he just needs to get over it. He’s fine with public transportation in general - took it to and from work for many years - but since Feb 2020 he has basically been in our house with very little interactions out in the world.
Our schools are going mask-optional in another few weeks so that will sort of force our hand as to how conservative and isolated we can keep our kids anyway. So maybe he will go for it!
Personally, I would stay in DC if you could. Rosslyn is nothing too interesting. I would not say it is a short walk to DC sites. The Key Bridge is great to walk over, but you are still a mile plus from any monuments.
DC has a lot of walking! The monuments/museums are walking distance but not close walking distance especially for kids.
That Embassy Suites is in a neat location. Near Dupont where there are lots of interesting buildings, restaurants, cafes, parks.
The metro has been running with reduced service for a while and I wouldn't want to depend on it to get to and from your hotel.
My post said Rosslyn’s a short walk to Georgetown (shopping and restaurants) —- not to DC sights. af1212, sounds like you are already familiar with the other DC visiting tip which is to leave your car somewhere and not try to drive around from place to place lol.

Sorry you are correct. I read that too quickly and thought it said "steps" instead of "stops."

Didn’t bother us, we had a car and the day we did the hop on hop off bus tour in DC we parked at Arlington cemetery for free and got on the bus there. The zoo was free and we paid $30 to park there which seemed like a steal for 4 of us to go to the zoo.
The rest of our trip out there included visiting family in Woodbridge, Fairfax station, and springfield VA and we went to kings dominion. It was easy to navigate to all those places from the hotel
We used to stay at the Embassy Suites when DS was younger. Two-room suites with a door. They had pools and free breakfast/happy hour but I would confirm that they're open/still a thing in COVID-times. The prices vary. We usually stayed in the one on Arlington because it's cheaper, it's right across from a Metro stop, it's steps to a mall with a nicer food court (not sure if that's still the case) and it's in OLd Town with lots of interesting food and shopping.

This was a great CVS. DH and I lived in Foggy Bottom from 2004-2008 and frequented that one a lot. I drove by it a few weeks ago and wondered if it was still the same inside.

I was in DC in 2018 for a conference and really wanted to go visit the CVS but didn't have time
I may be repeating someone’s advice but it’s worth it to add-
Call the hotel and confirm that their pool is open and available for open/family swim. We usually opt to pay more for a hotel with a pool and have been burned when we get there to find out it is being renovated, closed for a party, or whatever. So disappointing.
Ballston is not far from DC but it's not super close either (it took me 30-40 minutes to go from Metro Center area to Ballston on the metro in November and December). DC is a walkable city and I would prefer to be someplace where I could walk or short metro to the sites. I would not want to drive/park if I could avoid it.
Ditto someone else about the metro delays.
I am not sure I would call the walk from Rosslyn to G'town a short walk especially if you have kids. The walk is over the Key Bridge, which is busy and has traffic going by (and I say this as someone who walks whenever I can).
LOL it was just really big and well stocked! They had everything. It had a a travel section and I got a great dual voltage mini hairdryer and adapters I still use. I was 22 and broke and going there felt like a treat.
