I still have one episode left but I can't understand why they didn't have Kate and Anthony go ahead and get married, show lots of steamy sex, and deal with the sister drama after the Kate/Anthony wedding.
I think they drug out the will they/won't they drama for about 3 episodes too long.

The annoying part of the “will they/won’t they” is that, duh. It’s always been “they will.” The longer it went on, the worse I felt for her sister. Uuuugh. You called off your wedding because your fiancé and your sister did the regency era version of sex on the church steps via a slight hand touch and eye contact. How are we going to do a bunch more episodes of you all coexisting without sexing and/or sister heartbreak? Annoying!
I was annoyed by the proposal/wedding/happily ever after being crammed into that last ep, because I don’t see how 2 people just flip a switch after living their lives supposedly for duty to family and just start boinking while everyone is waiting outside for croquet. Seems like a little more time could be given to that adjustment/connection.

I really didn’t like that they had Edwina fall in love with (or at least think she fell in love with) Antony. I thought the book did a much better job of developing Kate and Antony’s profession from bitter enemies to friends. Overall, I was pretty disappointed in this season.
I'm upset that people are upset about Penelope because I ❤️ Nicola Coughlan (and all Derry Girls) and I will not hear words against her. I think this story arc is actually more interesting than the Whistledown reveal in the books. And they are going to have to change these plot points because Julia Quinn basically just wrote the same book eight or so times. I said it.
I just binged watched the entire season yesterday. It was not as engaging or exciting as season one. I was a bit bored.
I skipped through a lot of scenes with Benedict. He just doesn’t hold my attention. He was more intriguing last season.
Lady Danbury’s very precise speech throws me off a bit - it seems so forced.
The Queen is my favourite character.
The scene with Edmund, Anthony and Violet was so emotional. (Side note: Edmund is played by the same actor that is on the Charmed reboot as Harry the Whitelighter).
I’m not sure anything can top season one, but I’ll watch the next instalment nonetheless.
Did no one else find Edwina kind of irritating? I was not invested in her at all and didn’t feel bad for what happened to her. 🤷♀️
She read SO YOUNG to me. I mean, bordering on tween. That’s why I felt bad for her. Her marrying Anthony was straight obscene to me.
That's what I thought too. Her character looked like a child, and there was no connection between the two of them at all (again, bc she looks about 16, tops). I just didn't have any reason to root for the two of them to end up together.

Yes-this puts it perfectly. There was truly no reason to root for them.

100% they were completely doomed for so many reasons, even if Kate had gone back to India. The only time I saw any kind of "adult-leaning" behavior from her was in confronting the Antony/Kate situation.
Shondra better come up with a juicy story line and really amp up Benedicts character or it's going to be a really boring season 3. He was just so lackluster and blah.

Here's some ramblings...
I've rarely seen the skin tones of Edwina and Kate, as in really ever, portrayed in the Indian movies/shows I've seen (unless the person is of a "working class" type role). Like never ever....so it was nice to see that on a major show.
Edwina is cute but dang Kate is a freaking knock out.
I feel like they just drug this out 3 episodes too long. I mean come on....
I am not sure if I didn't get it or what...but Season 1 with Daphne and the Duke I missed their chemistry completely. She seemed as exciting as plain toast to me and he was well...I mean that guy is in a different league.
For those complaining about Edwina looking so young, remember the time period. During this time period, girls typically had their first season out in the ton at the age of 17 or 18. Females literally left the school room and entered the Marriage Mart. However, males typically didn’t start looking to “settle down and find a wife” until they were in their late 20’s.
In the books, Edwina was only 17 or 18 and Kate was 21 I think. They couldn’t afford 2 seasons so Kate’s debut was delayed until both girls were old enough. I know they added a couple years to Kate’s age in tye show but I don’t remember them ever giving Edwina’s age.

I was going to ask about what age girls are in their first season but a previous poster said 17 or 18? Is there always that big of an age difference?
Sorry for all the questions.
Most girls made their debut at 15-17, depending on if they had older unmarried sisters to marry off first. Usually by 20 you would be considered "on the shelf."
23 or 24 for men was usually the youngest the gentry would get married. So yes usually there was at least an 8-10 year age gap, which is why if you survived childbirth, there were so many widows.

I'm only on episode 5 but I don't love this season so far. I thought season 1 did a better job of building out side stories. But somehow this season they are both shorting the Kate/Anthony story AND not really giving other characters much to do.
After all this whinging from Eloise, I swear to god if they just have her end up with her book partner I will be annoyed. This better be going somewhere.
Benedict's book was my least favorite of the 8 so next season is going to be rough.
For those saying Benedict’s book was boring, is there at least a lot of sex? Lol
What's your definition of "a lot" haha.
They all have about the same amount, except Francesca's which might have the same number of sex scenes but they are more...everything.
If I recall correctly they come later in Benedict's book, because both the Duke and I and Viscount Who Loved Me have a "forced marriage" plot about halfway through so the couple marries earlier in the books.
This season is DEFINITELY a departure from the "heat" level of Viscount Who Loved Me. Hopefully Shondaland heeds the complaints from fans about the lack of sex.
How did they explain the Duke not being on the show anymore?
They don't really. There's one offhand comment from Daphne about how she left her husband at home to help out Anthony. It's dumb, I wouldn't expect them to have a whole lot of plot but it's weird that Daphne is present for all these scenes and he isn't.

I was hoping for more on par with season one. This season was definitely lacking in that department. Maybe season three will strike a balance - not too much and not too little.
