They all have about the same amount, except Francesca's which might have the same number of sex scenes but they are more...everything.
If I recall correctly they come later in Benedict's book, because both the Duke and I and Viscount Who Loved Me have a "forced marriage" plot about halfway through so the couple marries earlier in the books.
This season is DEFINITELY a departure from the "heat" level of Viscount Who Loved Me. Hopefully Shondaland heeds the complaints from fans about the lack of sex.
I was hoping for more on par with season one. This season was definitely lacking in that department. Maybe season three will strike a balance - not too much and not too little.
Yea Book 2 had way more sex than season 2 of the show did. I would say book 3 has less sex than both book 1 and 2.

Oh no! Hopefully season 3 is a departure from the book then...
How did they explain the Duke not being on the show anymore?
They don't really. There's one offhand comment from Daphne about how she left her husband at home to help out Anthony. It's dumb, I wouldn't expect them to have a whole lot of plot but it's weird that Daphne is present for all these scenes and he isn't.
Why wasn't he in this season. I thought I had first read that it was just because this wasn't his story, but I agree it was odd that Daphne was there and he wasn't. I mean he didn't need a big part, but it was odd to not be present at family events.

He said early on he would only ever do 1 season of the show. Which, given what a giant success it turned out to be, I am impressed he didn't return. I can't imagine the money they probably offered him to come back.

I just finished watching this and have a few questions:
1: I read the book and liked it a lot.it felt like there were significant changes from the book to the show, mainly that there was a large portion of the book with two characters in a different relationship. Is that correct or am I mis-remembering? Also I'm trying to be vague and not spoil the book.
2: in the show, I actually quite liked how similar Kate and Antony are and what their strengths are: loyalty, love, excellence..and how those strengths were overused and overvalued to a point of harming themselves and others. Personally, I have some of those strengths and can completely relate to both using them for good and then trying to use them to over control situations and others! I thought that Antony and Kate..but Antony in particular showed that he was a really caring individual but was squashing down a big part of himself to "be" what society told him to be. I liked the scenes with him and the mom. 🥺
3: I definitely wished their was more hot sex, bc each time Antony and Kate were around each other it WAS 🔥. I loved how once Edwina saw it, she was like "OH MY GOD HOW DID I NOT NOTICE!"
4: I understand that Penelope said she wrote about Eloise to "save" her, but..she didn't, and her saying "at least I did something, you are all talk.." was a shit thing to say. Bc everything Penelope has done is at the cost of others. It's not high art or true social commentary, and Eloise actually pointed that out, to Penelopes chagrin.

To your #1 - Anthony’s opera singer is around in the beginning of the book and Edwina falls in love with someone else (but not until after Anthony and Kate are engaged, I believe?). Edwina was never really interested in any of the ton men, but thought she had to marry well to support Kate and Mary.
I thought this season was meh. Though the amazing sets and costumes redeemed it for me. I seriously adore the dresses that were featured.... empire waists and heaving bosoms forever!
The actresses who play the Sharma sisters are just stunningly beautiful.

I finished it yesterday .... Kate and Anthony were the slow building fire we needed. I'm so glad that he did what he wanted (Kate) instead of what everyone expected of him (Edwina).
Non book reader here. Finally finished. First impression: OMG this season was SO SO SO much better than season one!!! I mean, top notch chemistry between Anthony and Kate, the two of them individually are incredibly hot and they were fantastic together. And I *really* appreciated the amount of times we saw Anthony shirtless. Bravo, can we some how please have more of that in the future? somehow?? please??
To me season one was just okay, but I felt Simon and Daphne had no chemistry whatsoever (I realize I seem to be in the minority here) and Daphne and her baby bangs just look SO young, and I was so uncomfortable with their sex scenes. And even though there are only two very brief/discreet sex scenes with Anthony and Kate, there was so much smoldering between them, and the close up photography really heightened that. I felt it was so much more effective.
My fave scene was Anthony and his mother in the library, when she told him that Kate had woken up. And I could see that the actor had really let go to the point that he had to really restrain himself from outright sobbing. As someone who's experienced an unexpected loss and expected a loss that was able to turn around, it felt really authentic.
I love Eloise and I will not hear a word against her. I also love Pen and cannot choose sides between them.
Kate looked absolutely amazing in that light orange dress at the Featherington ball.
Edwina did look about 16 until the last couple of episodes where she suddenly didn't seem so teenager-y.
I thought Benedict was developing in a kind of interesting way in season one, and now I feel like he's kind of all over the map and a bit odd and I have no idea what to think about his personality.
Colin shows some good promise but he needs to get his shit together.
I noticed for the first time that the main characters and named recurring characters are mostly very average looking, but the debutantes (every last one of them) are drop dead gorgeous. (and Kate and Edwina too). Anthony is the exception here. Rawr.

I read that he didn't want to come back to play a supporting role. He would have known that his character would have been recurring after season 1 because of the structure of the show, so maybe that was always his plan?
Unrelated: I have a question about ages - I read that when Daphne debuted she was 21, and at that time Eloise was 17. So if this is a year later (or 2 since Daphne's baby turns 1 at the end?), then Eloise would be 18 or 19. So why would she have to debut then if Daphne was super into it and waited until she was 21? I know I'm thinking about this too hard, but I feel like Eloise could have waited a couple more years.

I think the series is just playing a little loose with the timelines. In the books, Daphne is in her second or third season when she meets the duke. Anthony meets and marries Kate (who is significantly younger than 26) the following season. I’m pretty sure Eloise isn’t out that season either - she attends a few events at Bridgerton House as “preparation.” During the Pall Mall scene it is alluded to that Daphne is pregnant - and I guess it would have to be her first baby, although I’m not sure that timeline is consistent even in the books.

Ok, I figured it was probably because of the way they adapted everything.

How did Kate set up--or get knowledge of the inheritance deal with her step mom's parents? It seemed like Kate was either the "bastard" child of her dad or that her dad had been previously married and then Kate's biological mom had passed away. But either way she was supposed to be an unacknowledged child, ESPECIALLY by the grandparents. It didn't make a lot of sense to me how these grandparents who were so worried about how they looked in society were then able to make a deal with Kate, behind their own daughter's back. That was messy and confusing to me.
I quit season 1 after an episode and a half because Phoebe was soooo uninteresting and I didn’t find her attractive. It was utterly unbelievable to me that she was the most fascinating lady of the season.
This season i actually enjoyed generally speaking, though agreed with others about many things like the last few episodes really dragging things out, Edwina looking way too young, etc.

This whole inheritance thing is new for the show, so I'm not really sure. In the books, Kate's dad was previously married so she was Mary's step daughter, and I think that's the same in the show. I don't think the grandparents really had a problem with Kate existing, just with Mary marrying a commoner and going off to India to be with him. I think we're supposed to think that after Kate's dad passed, she took on the "running" of the family while Mary was mourning. She mentions a lot how she raised Edwina. I assume they hyped this up in the show to draw parallels between Kate and Anthony's sense of duty and family, taking over for a father who died young, etc.
Now, as for why the grandparents would accept that and deal with Kate? I have no idea. Maybe they thought they were dealing with Mary? Maybe Mary was like "I can't deal with these pricks" and Kate just answered letters for her? I didn't get the idea that Mary was in the dark about it, but maybe I missed something.

Going by the bracelets Kate got from her bio mom it sounded like she passed away.
I thought they made a deal with the mom & Kate helped to make the plan come to fruition. Kate & her mom were keeping the secret from Edwina, but Edwina mostly held a grudge against Kate for it because of their close relationship

I think she said she took over her father's "affairs" when he died and sort of acted as the "man" of the house. She was in control of financials, etc. She said she came across something (maybe trust paperwork?) and read of Edwina's inheritance from the grandparents and the stipulation of marrying someone of nobility in order to get it.

I definitely saw that in the show they drew the parallels of Kate/Antony as the caretakers of their respective families and the common responsibilities they both felt, feelings of loss and grief etc. Honestly they were both classic first children lol.
I did get the sense that Mary and Edwina were in the dark about the arrangement with Mary's parents and that Kate had told the Duchess who was in on the "scheme" but no one else in the Scharma family knew which was incredibly weird to me. When the whole thing came out at dinner and everyone from the Bridgertons were (rightfully) shocked to Edwina and MARY were also shocked at the arrangement I was like "Well, I can see that Edwina would have been in the dark but Mary too?"
It does make sense that maybe Kate basically took over the running of the household and Mary kind of just let that happen. I feel like what didn't make sense was that Mary's parents were so..like into society and felt like they had been shunned b/c of Mary marrying lower and then running off to India that THEN they would have been accepting of Kate, the daughter and WOMAN setting up a marriage pact? That's where they got more liberal? Okay. You are also asking me to hum along to the string version of Wrecking Ball so I guess this can happen too!
