Curious what people do/did with their dresses. Mine is sealed in a gigantic box in my childhood bedroom at my mom’s house. No idea where it will go once she ever moves.
This thread brought to you by a recent conversation with someone who said she threw her dress away…
Mine is hanging in my closet, but it’s also not a traditional wedding dress. It was a bridesmaid dress from BHLDN so it wouldn’t need preserving or anything. I think I donated my first wedding dress.

Mine is in a hanging garment bag in the first room closet. I never even got it cleaned! I don’t really have an plans for what to do with it. Maybe my daughters will want a piece of the fabric or lace as a keepsake of sorts for their own weddings?

My parents had it preserved and it’s in a giant box in DD1s closet. I’ll open it when one of the girls gets married. Not that I expect them to wear the dress but my mother cut a piece of her dress to wrap around my bouquet and I’ll do the same for the girls.

This. Guest room closet in a garment bag, I didn’t even have it cleaned. Until I need the space it will stay there I’m guessing.
It hanging in a spare closet still in the garment bag. I never got it cleaned or preserved. I thought about selling it a couple years after the wedding and never did. I’m sure it’s horribly dated now and no one would want it (married in 2008)

It was made into my daughter’s baptismal gown and then I donated the rest of it to a sewing club that often donated their projects to hospitals/nursing homes.
We’re not religious anymore, but I still have the baptismal gown and happily loan it out to anyone who asks.

Aw this is so sweet.
I assume my mom has it? I never got it cleaned, and went bar hopping in it after the wedding so it could've def used a cleaning. Oh well I clearly had no plans for it.
It’s hanging up in my bedroom closet at my parents’ house. There’s room there and it’s safe. I don’t think I’ll ever wear it again but I guess I’ve kept it on the off chance one of my girls might make use of it somehow. I actually really wanted to use my mom’s dress for my wedding but we’re built differently enough that it just didn’t work for me.

I’m not sentimental in that manner. Either it was sold or my mom to threw it away. I can’t remember which but I know my mom and I discussed both options. No way would I lug that thing around that I’d never wear again.
We eloped and my dress was from mod cloth, so I definitely don't need to preserve it. It's hanging in my closet (next to H's wedding outfit) but I'll never be able to fit into it again! At least it doesn't take up much space.
My mom had my dress cleaned while I was on my honeymoon so it’s in a box from the dry cleaner in a big plastic bag. It’s currently on a shelf in my garage.
I should probably donate it or something since I’m now divorced and don’t have kids. Maybe I will someday.

Mine is hanging in the guest room closet in a garment bag. I never had it cleaned, even after doing a trash the dress photo shoot in it. While the dress wasn’t actually trashed, I can only imagine what the bottom of the dress looks like now, 13+ years after spending hours dragging through the alleys of Detroit.

Mine is also uncleaned in a garment bag hanging in my hall closet. I love that damn dress, but I doubt DD will want it. It takes up quite a bit of space in my tiny closet because of the floof. I could donate it, but it feels like it might have bad luck attached to it, since divorced. Maybe a bonfire is in order?

It’s in my closet, I should probably get rid of it. I had plans to turn it into a christening dress for DD, but that never happened. It’s not even cleaned.
I lost a bunch of weight like 5 years ago, and even though I weighed less than my wedding weight, it wasn’t even close to zipping. I guess everything really did shift after pregnancy.

Mine is in my childhood bedroom too. I don’t think it’s been cleaned and I definitely didn’t have it preserved. I’ll probably donate it someday. I highly doubt my DD would want to wear it.
ETA: This thread reminds me that whenever I go visit my mom, it always crosses my mind that I should clean out my childhood closets. Of course, then I never make the time when I’m there.
ETA2: I randomly was looking through our wedding album last week. Don’t know why — it had been years since I last did. Man, oh man, was I a skinny little nothing back then. I think I weighed 105 lbs. My dress was backless. I don’t hate myself enough to try to put it on now!
