More doctors need to open at 7 - 7:30am (there are some that don't start apts until 8:30, and boy do those go fast), and be open 5 - 6 days a week. I know the healthcare world is BEYOND understaffed, but my GYN office is closed every wed, and apts stop at 3:30pm. Even my general physical got moved 4 times (literally) so I had to take the end of the day. Took so long to take me in, then get rushed, that every other staff had left. The NP was upset I "kept them" by asking questions about my health, then messaged me after blood work to take fish oil pills...which I told the Med Asst and NP about.
*I know it's hard to put in notes. I'm not saving lives, but I'm back to back apts and miss a lot of important info not having time in between to document
Exactly. Doctors don’t like to run behind anymore than patients like to wait. I can’t really ever think of a time I could’ve predicted that a visit would take longer than anticipated, it just happens. If I am running late and the person is already in the back waiting and i still have 1 more person to see I sometimes try to give them a heads up and say sorry running behind will be with you next, but that doesn’t always work. Much of the time the time can be caught up if the next visit is quick but that doesn’t always happen. And when I have to use an interpreter to talk with a patient that always takes double the time.
Yes in an ideal world appointments could be booked for 30 minutes or an hour or whatever, so even if no one needed to make money people would then complain that doctors are booked out even further in advance.
It’s really a no win situation.
It is a no win, but with booking pt’s every 15 minutes, you are going to run into issues every day. I don’t have the answer, but I get the frustration on both sides!
Yep and most doctors would love if appointments were booked in 30 min or more time slots but administrators won’t let that happen. For primary care more and more doctors are moving to direct primary care where they don’t take insurance and people have to pay a monthly fee, typically about $50 a month and then most of the time appointment slots are 30 minutes to an hour, but direct primary care doctors typically also have lower caps on how many patients see so that they can have those longer time appointments. So yep it really is a difficult spot and if you’re an employed physician like most of us are now you don’t get much say on how appointments are booked.

Pilsy that is so frustrating. I would be crying too. I'm sorry.
winecat, so the money is going to your mom and then she will gift it to you? Can you just make something up? "I'm definitely going to pay off my mortgage." And so whateverthehell you want, once you get it.

Usually gyn offices and offices that perform surgeries if they’re a small office will be closed 1 day a week because that’s the day the surgeon operates.
We have 1 day of late appointments (most of our patients prefer late appointments, we don’t fill up early appointments as fast) and my boss is talking about wanting to expand to 2 days of late night appointments. However, I’m the only doctor who would be available to do that. And yes I love my job and do try to go above and beyond for my patients but I’m not working a 12 hour day every week for late hours, sorry! I’ve told her this directly, but she still keeps bringing it up. Sometimes administrators are so out of touch.
I’m just saying I think most doctors wish the system were different, that there were more doctors available (it’s horrible in rural areas), but we aren’t an unlimited resource that can work 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
I don't believe it is a term from my grandmother. My aunt, who is the executor, hasn't said anything. But, the portions for my brother and I might have to "come through" her because my uncle didn't want his daughter to directly get anything so none of the grandchildren will get any direct distribution. (She has addiction issues and is currently in jail.) So yeah, it's all kind of manipulations going on.
I see. I believe that beneficiaries have the right to receive disbursements directly.
Yeah- the grandchildren were supposed to receive an amount from my grandmother. She had an addendum to her will written but it wasn't filed so if all her children agreed, they could not follow that directive. But because my uncle didn't want anyone to have to deal with his daughter, they all decided to not have anything to directly to the grandchildren. Even though there is a lawyer who would be paid to deal with my cousin.
sugarbear1- That's my plan but I'm so annoyed. And she wonders why we're not close. I think she's just using it to force contact from me, even though she's the one who hung up on me and has told the family that I yelled or screamed, depending on the story, and that she's terrified of me.
I just wish they would notify the patients if the Dr gets behind and ask if we want to reschedule. Anytime a Dr has been running late ime I've been sitting there not knowing how long I will wait.
Once when I was at my gyn I was told the Dr would be right in and then heard the nurses talking in the hall that my Dr was pulled away for surgery and I walked out of the exam room to ask and they confirmed they didn't know when she'd be back. Just tell the patients.
I ended up just leaving the appointment unseen. It wasn't the Dr's fault but dang.
Just tried to set up an appointment as a new patient at an ob Gyn since I literally just moved 2 weeks ago. Figured wait times would be a month or so, trying to be proactive. Obv I don’t have an address yet. We are in an air b&b, offer on house was just accepted yesterday with inspections this week. Yeah…lady couldn’t set me up an appointment bc I don’t have an address. I have a PO box, nope. Wouldn’t work. Has to be a physical address. But I don’t have one. Ensue endless circle of trying to explain to her my situation until I finally just had enough and hang up
Why is life so hard? Setting up a Dr appt shouldn’t be this hard.

Like I said, there's a huge shortage of medical professionals out there. In my area medical assistants, CNA's and EMTs are getting "huge" bonuses ($5K) for signing. I know in a pre-COVID world there weren't enough doctors, nurses, yet not enough seats in programs to train more doctors and nurses (vicious cycle). It's just a tough thing that you have to work full time to pay for insurance to go to the doctor, but then you have to take time off to go to the doctor because not everyone is open nights or weekends when other working people are off. Before anyone says you should have sick time, not every employer is generous with that. Some people need a lot of doc apts, or they all fall around the same time, or you get stuck with the 2:30pm apt then have to either go back to work or lose half a day.
Also sending a text or notification if a doc is running really behind would be really helpful. You have to be there at least 15 mins early, to wait 30+ minutes for your apt. If you knew they were behind you could get there later. I'm not sure how you would get the word out, but it might make for less angry patience.
ETA: wanderingback, I appreciate all of your free medical advice on your time off.

Hmm. I wonder who is going to be following up to make sure that the grandchildren got their inheritance, and how. That seems really complicated and messy, for someone (your aunt, as executor?) to have to police that. I would definitely just make up something. I'm sorry for that headache, though.

Yeah, I once sat in the paper skirt for almost an hour waiting for an OB who was pulled away for something urgent (though she did finally get to me). I couldn’t even walk into the hall to ask about it! It’s frustrating….but it happens sometimes.

Especially since nobody is talking actual numbers yet. It is complicated and messy. I will definitely make something up if needed. But what's really upsetting me is that my mom is trying to control what I do. If it's a significant amount of money, my plan has always been to go to a financial planner. But my mom, who has lived her entire life in poverty, thinks she knows better and wants to control me via money. I'm not an irresponsible person.

Wow, I could have written this post, except I’m trying to get my maintenance med scripts refilled until I can get in to see someone. How crazy that we are both in new cities within the past two weeks, living in AirBnBs, and just bought houses 😂 good luck with everything!

That sounds really frustrating. I don't have a great relationship with my mom, so while I can't relate to this specific situation, I can definitely sympathize being on the receiving end of manipulation tactics. It sucks.

This dog would turn to dust and blow away if I didn't give him water. Instead of filling it I'm goubg to start picking up the empty bowl and smacking people with it.
If your doctor takes insurance and/or works for some kind of institution, they are not in control of appointment length or number of patients seen in a day. And they are damn sure not seeing any record profits. The health care system is stretched to the max right now at every level of care. We are all being forced to do more with less. Even the outpatient clinics are overwhelmed because patients that would normally be in the hospital can't be.
Now if you are seeing a private practice, private pay doctor, complain away.

To be fair this isn’t just a post pandemic thing. I’ve been in a hospital/clinic setting for 17yrs, it’s always been an issue! Not blaming the providers, it is what is it, but it sucks for all involved. I’ve been on the patient side and dealing with angry patients on the provider side.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I had a cat that used to do this. You should be able to put the bath mat in the washing machine, but if it has rubber backing then you probably don’t want to put it in the dryer.

A job told me they were going to make an offer then totally ghosted me. I reached out to the HR director and the CEO after a week and neither responded. Yesterday they reposted the job.

followyourarrow this sucks. I am sorry. I had the same thing happen about 10 years ago. I had 3 interviews, had lunch with the team then was invited to tour of the office as a formality for being practically hired and then, crickets. Have the decency to send me a rejection letter or something! That's a minimum FFS.
I am getting really frustrated at work. We've been using Salesforce for almost a year. I am the one who uses it the most in the company. Most people don't even log in. With the new implementation, I need it to do my job yet I am blocked by stupid stuff. I can't add a contact to close an opportunity. I contact the people in charge and they tell me it works for them and basically imply I don't know how to type a freaking contact. No! I don't have all the authorizations you idiots, that's why. Give me all the authorizations since I need them to do my job properly.
Vent about Salesforce - this stupid new authenicator you have to download on your phone and use every.single.time. you log in is making me crazy. Is there any way to set it not to ask again?

We're in the process of implementing Salesforce and this is very annoying. Especially since we already have duo authentication through work, I don't know why we have to do both! At least on my campus one there is a box I can check for it to only ask every 7 days.

One time a doctor's office refused to see my husband (who needed to be seen to get a refill of his prescription for his insulin, type 1 diabetics can't really go without that) because he was FOUR DAMN MINUTES LATE. I asked if he could at least get a script for one month of his current prescription to tide him over until he could be seen. Was told absolutely not. Was then told their next availability was THREE MONTHS FROM THEN. And that it was somehow acceptable for him to be denied care over these four damned minutes because "the doctor is busy" but we all know damned well he wouldn't have been seen within those four minutes.
I had to throw a hellacious fit about exactly WHAT IN THE HELL DID THEY EXPECT A TYPE 1 DIABETIC TO DO WITHOUT INSULIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, and to please write it down how they expected him to even be ALIVE for this rescheduled three months from now appointment, loudly and publicly.
And what would you know, an appointment opened up, twenty minutes away, with a PA, but she could at least write a damned script.

HOLY SHIT! That is not just annoying, that is dangerous and so, so wrong! I hope you filed a complaint with the practice management and switched providers. I can't imagine a healthcare provider being so negligent like that to a type 1 diabetic!

Ugh that’s so frustrating. I don’t manage our front desk staff and I know they have a hard job because sometimes ppl can be down right nasty to them for no reason, but yeah they seem to not be able to use critical thinking skills to come up with solutions or bend the rules at all. It’s incredibly frustrating. Sometimes I do hear the things that go on at the front desk and I’m like eeeeek, I wish I was able to talk to the patient. It’s definitely not ideal and I have no good solutions. Just commiseration when having difficulty with staff, so sorry you had to deal with that.
