I see we're posting dr grievances. :-p I try to get the first appt in the AM so I don't have to wait around as drs get behind throughout the day AND so I could miss the least amount of work possible. When I was pregnant and had eleven billion appts cause I was high risk it was especially trying. I was so pissed smoke was maybe coming out of my ears when they double booked me for the first time slot. Apparently the other person only need the results of their blood work and it would be super quick (cannot roll my eyes hard enough). I ended up really late for work and had to call so my prek students wouldn't be left alone unsupervised in my classroom.
There was the other time of note when my neuro prescribed me the wrong medication 3x in a row in one day when I was running out of meds and it was a long weekend that next day. The AMAZING pharmacist caught it each time. The neuro had been prescribing me the exact same med for 6 years at that point. I was so upset I had a panic attack because these are the meds that make it so I don't have seizures. I can't just skip 3 days and expect everything to be ok.

H went to the doctor for an eye injection yesterday. They dilated his eyes and then told him the doctor was running a little behind and he should expect to wait 3 hours. How is that even possible? What is the purpose of having appointments? This is the same practice that tried to charge a missed appointment fee when the receptionist wrote the wrong info on the appointment card.
Since we're airing medical grievances...this is weird, right?
My dentist is retiring and combined practices with another office. I went there for the first time for a routine cleaning. At the end, instead of paying my regular copay of $15, I had to pay the full amount ($285) and they said the insurance company would send a check within 2 weeks. I assumed that meant they would send the check to me, but no, they sent the check to the dental office, so I now have a $285 credit on my account. I called to ask if that was just a first-time-at-the-office thing and they said no, that is how they do billing. So when I go back for some fillings next month, I will have to pay the full cost out of pocket minus my current $285 credit, then my insurance will pay the dentist, and I will have another big credit on my account to be applied...sometime? to a future appointment.
If this is common practice I guess I'll just go with it. But if it's not, it may be enough to make me switch practices.

I can’t imagine why they dilated his eyes and then had him wait that long!!
I had a doctor (specialist) years ago that routinely ran 6+ hrs late. I legit would bring a packed lunch and dinner.

That is very weird. It sounds like maybe the office has a cash flow problem? I’d find somewhere else TBH.
If you are selling something on Craigslist/Facebook Marketplace that’s new in box, it still should be significantly cheaper than buying it new, correct? I keep seeing items that are maybe $20 cheaper than new and that seems weird to me. I am taking you at your word that it even is new in box and 100% ok to begin with. These aren’t super cheap items either, it’s in the $200 range. People are really wanting to haggle and it’s niche items IMO they should be happy someone wants at $50-60 off. Why would you expect to recoup your price when I could just order a brand new one and know it’s fine?

This is very weird and doesn’t seem normal.
There have been times where I’ve overpaid at the dentist and ended up with a credit but I’m talking like $20. It’s usually when insurance covers more than the original quote. What you are describing does not sound ethical.

Nope! Not normal. Switch practices. That’s crazy that they are basically asking you for an interest free loan.
And they better pay you your credit with no issues when you call to tell them you are leaving! I’m shocked other patients let them get away with this.
My poor mom had to retire early because she was a nurse and has a bunch of health stuff that means she has doctor appointments frequently. She was unable to be able to count on scheduling them around work, largely for reasons like what's being shared in this thread. Our health system is such a mess.
tacokick I'm not really one to buy stuff from random people in the community anyway, but whenever I've sold something I sell it at a fraction of what I paid for it. I don't think I've ever sold something brand new in a box, but if I did I think I'd probably list it for half of what I paid? At the same time, I guess if I was selling it because I needed to make rent or something, it would be hard to feel ok with that. Usually when I'm selling something, it's just because I don't have any use for it anymore and want to get it out of my house.

wildrice it’s mainly very niche craft/art stuff so generally it seems to be either something someone bought and then never actually used, something they used once and didn’t like it, something they inherited and have no interest in or they are downsizing. It’s not easy to sell/common items like clothes/toys or furniture.
People are arguing with me when I offer less. How big do they think the market is here? I can see wanting your money back but that doesn’t seem realistic? For $20-30 more I could order it from the store and have it delivered to my home and not deal with strangers.
I thought it would be like car rules where once it was driven off the lot it’s used and worth a lot less? Current car shortage aside of course! But some sellers don’t seem to think so. It’s weird but happens enough that I was starting to wonder

I got a report that one of my students was huffing helium off of the tank at our weekend event. I can't anymore.
ETA: My dad doesn't drive and relies on the bus at his independent living community or my brother or I. The bus only runs certain hours, mostly in the morning. They will not make an exception so if your appointment is later or runs late you get left behind. that's the case for a lot of older folks, they take up the good/early apts because of rides. It's also hard for my dad to get a later in the day apt so I don't miss a whole day of work to drive up, pick him up and go to the doc.

I'm selling a bunch of new in box items and listed them at 50-60% off the price new. Two of the items were free to me (promotional gifts when we switched to Verizon) so I figure it is all gravy. I did get annoyed when I listed a $100 item for $40 and immediately had people offering $20 though.
I am also selling very expensive hiking boots that I missed the return window on. I'm listing $175 new in box boots for $75 and I'm just trying not to think about how much money I'm losing. That's *if* they sell, because I have gigantic flipper feet and I'm not sure anyone is shopping my sizes LOL.

What size? I have giant feet too.
I wear an 11, but tried a few different brands of boots in my size that all ran small. So then I ordered a pair of Salomons and a pair of Keens in size 12. But turns out they both run true to size and were too big. LOL. It was a whole saga. I'm not sure there are a lot of people searching marketplace for women's size 12.

Is that different than sucking some out of a helium balloon to make your voice change? I guess I could google it, but my search history already has enough crazy stuff in it. LOL

dochas, I wasn't there. I have a lot of follow up questions, was this off of the tank, or out of the balloon? Were they trying to get high or they just wanted to make a funny voice? We've had a lot of issues with this person, so we're not surprised. This is a "give them a chance, they need the experience" (aka my boss knows their mom).
One time a doctor's office refused to see my husband (who needed to be seen to get a refill of his prescription for his insulin, type 1 diabetics can't really go without that) because he was FOUR DAMN MINUTES LATE. I asked if he could at least get a script for one month of his current prescription to tide him over until he could be seen. Was told absolutely not. Was then told their next availability was THREE MONTHS FROM THEN. And that it was somehow acceptable for him to be denied care over these four damned minutes because "the doctor is busy" but we all know damned well he wouldn't have been seen within those four minutes.
I had to throw a hellacious fit about exactly WHAT IN THE HELL DID THEY EXPECT A TYPE 1 DIABETIC TO DO WITHOUT INSULIN FOR SEVERAL MONTHS, and to please write it down how they expected him to even be ALIVE for this rescheduled three months from now appointment, loudly and publicly.
And what would you know, an appointment opened up, twenty minutes away, with a PA, but she could at least write a damned script.
It was so annoying.
Ugh that’s so frustrating. I don’t manage our front desk staff and I know they have a hard job because sometimes ppl can be down right nasty to them for no reason, but yeah they seem to not be able to use critical thinking skills to come up with solutions or bend the rules at all. It’s incredibly frustrating. Sometimes I do hear the things that go on at the front desk and I’m like eeeeek, I wish I was able to talk to the patient. It’s definitely not ideal and I have no good solutions. Just commiseration when having difficulty with staff, so sorry you had to deal with that.
What I kind of pieced together, when we got to the PA at a different office later that day, is that there had been huge turnover in that office, they were re-staffing as quickly as they could, and the front desk staff was stressed, tired, pissy and trying to prove some sort of point.
I'll say when I did message this (not small health chain in my area) with the phrase "we were denied care over four minutes," I'll be damned if we didn't get a response right away.

Do you want to post/message links? I wear an 11 but depending on the shoe, I need arch supports so I have to get an 11.5 or 12.

This seems reasonable! I’d feel sad being out the money for the boots but happy to be at least getting something!
I am making reasonable offers too, nothing too low and it is a niche item I’d think they’d be happy to find a buyer for (like your boots lol).

If I lived near you I'd be interested. If they were wide lol. But I hate trying to shop Facebook marketplace so I don't look there very frequently.

I guess the age matters too. I was kind if thinking that helium would be irresistible, but we were 80s kids. Do kids even do that now for the funny voice?? And then I was thinking there was something g called whippets that was kind of a drug I think, and that might have been helium? I can't decide how to judge this!
My current vent is that I WFH at an online school and have to be out of the office approximately 8-10 days a year to test students in person for our state testing exams, in April and May. I have to drive about 45 minutes to the testing site. None of that is a big deal really (and I got out of it the past 2 years bc of Covid), but my daycare provider broke her hand and had to have surgery this week, so she's closed. I just saw her post on FB that the surgery was more complicated than they thought it would be, and I am REALLY hoping she isn't going to be out longer or more frequently because of it, because I am fucked for childcare if so. I'm not mad at her obviously, but this is really inconvenient. My H is completely USELESS as a parent during the week, he's gone around 12 hours a day plus has lots of evening activities, especially this time of year as a HS principal. I told him he might have to step up and help/take off if she would randomly be closed one of those days, and he seemed pissy about it. WHYYYY does this have to happen on one of the few days of the year that I actually have to be somewhere?!

tacokick FI and I regularly roll our eyes at how crazy people are in thinking they can sell things that they say have been used for multiple years - but in perfect condition!1!11!!! - for like 10% off the original price. I'd rather have a store guarantee than save like $4.
Also, continuing the medical theme, FI stresses me out when it comes to the pediatrician. She's always behind, and yes it's annoying, but a) she has never made us feel rushed and spends plenty of time with us so obviously that ends up making her late but for a good reason and b) every doctor in every medical establishment ever runs late, as evidenced by this thread. He gets so huffy about how it's just unprofessional and not ok, and I find his attitude far more stressful than the actual lateness.

Not helium. Nitrous oxide.
the kid might have been really stupid and thought that was what he was doing. But it wasn't.

Whippets are nitrous oxide!
My guess is they are inhaling helium to do the voice but inhaling helium is actually dangerous and I’d be worried for them to be doing this alone, unsupervised especially if it might be from the tank! There is also a huge helium shortage. I’m surprised any school even has any.

I had a practice try to do this to me and I refused. The next day I looked at Yelp, and there were dozens of people complaining that the dentist owed them money. Runaway!!

Verizon gave us all these promotional items too, and I assumed they were worthless.
