I’m not allowed to exercise yet, but I’m trying to move around some more. I got 5,000 (slow) steps today throughout the day. I’m trying to walk for five to ten minutes every hour.
I definitely have a lot of strength and endurance I need to build back, but I’m pretty happy with where I’m at for now.
My work colleague brought me 4 little pints of ice cream for my birthday. I left them in the freezer in the faculty room and it has seriously made my day every day since to have a little scoop of ice cream after lunch. Small things…
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
I mentioned a couple weeks ago that I had an interview with a competitor in my field (they reached out to me, I'm not actively looking to leave).
They sent me an offer letter (via email) last week. I had a call with the head of the department at the end of last week to go over details, benefits etc. The offer is basically a lateral move, salary wise and way less vacation time (1 week, how is that even a thing???) He emailed me the health benefits cost summary and I went over it compared to my current plan. It's more expensive and basically the same coverage/deductible.
So, I emailed back first thing this morning and let them know my counter offer. $20k more than they offered and 4 weeks vacation. I know they might laugh in my face, but I don't have anything to lose. I'm (mostly) happy in my current position and have a lot of flexibility and seniority. It would take a decent amount of money for me to leave that. Still, I'm ridiculously nervous about what they are going to say.
It always pays to negotiate!!! And like you said you have nothing to lose & you can decline the offer if they can’t match what you’re looking for.
