Beginning in May, I’ll be going into the office one day per week for meetings. I previously had used a cross body laptop bag/tote when I taught and needed the two water bottle holders etc but I don’t need that now since my office has water and ice dispensers and the tote is also a bit cumbersome/heavy on just one shoulder. I think I’d like a laptop backpack that is easier to carry and distribute the weight.
What I’d need to fit in it: 13.5” laptop, charging cord, legal pad, wallet, a small makeup size bag where I keep my car keys, lipstick, mints etc, hair brush. At the end of the day, I’d also like to fit my emptied coffee thermos if possible (it’s not a Yeti but think comparable size). For color I’m thinking black or gray.
Any links or brands for ones you like? Oh also I’m plus size and in the winter have to wear a very heavy coat so would like straps that lengthen fairly generously.
I love my Dagne Dover Dakota. I have the largest size because I have a dinosaur of a laptop, and it fits so much and the straps are comfy. I have worn mine in Chicago winters with large coats, and I’m not a small person, and there was still plenty of room on the straps. I love it because it’s super easy to wipe clean, and it’s a little more structured than a normal nylon/canvas backpack. They do occasionally have sales, which is when I got mine. I’m on year 4 of heavy use and still going strong.
I have a large laptop this fits well plus room for more! I recently traveled with it and it slid onto my carryon handle which was so convenient. The thick straps make it comfortable to wear too.
Thanks, everyone! There are some really pretty bags in here. I may start with one of the less expensive options to see if I like having a backpack and then ask for one of the pricier options as a gift.
The eBags backpack is my fave. I love the charging cord compartment at the bottom and all the organization options in the smaller pocket. It doesn’t fit a ton, like you can’t pack a change of clothes in it, but it is perfect for my daily office commute and taking my stuff back and forth.
I recently got a really nice one from Target for $50. It was in their luggage section. Commuter Backpack by Open Story ( sorry can’t link from my phone).
I got the same one a few months ago and it's SO great. I'm only in the office once a week max, but I've chosen this over any of my other laptop bags every time. I'll be taking it on a plane in a few weeks when I need to take my laptop and peripherals (including a travel monitor) with me, and I also plan to remove the insert/organizer panel and take it with me to Europe this fall. It looks really sharp - I have the black with gold hardware.
