I would ask for 20% off. That’s ridiculous. For $3,000 a night, they should take care of every little detail, but if they miss something, they should fix it quickly.
Also, I need to see pics of this place. I’m wildly curious. Did the rest of the resort live up to expectations? What did you get for $18,000 besides running toilets?
I don’t know how much is appropriate, but they need to offer something. If it was just the running toilets it would be one thing (but still worth at least a comped dinner), but with a smelly clogged toilet for 2 days I think maybe 50% off those days.
We stayed in a cabin in Shenandoah NP one year (we do almost every year). They were having a problem with a bear getting too close to people so they had a trap set up so they could relocate the bear. The bear entered the trap around midnight and then spent the entire night clawing the metal trap. Our cabin was the closest to the trap so it kept us up much of the night. We didn’t complain or anything and when we checked out they gave us that night for free due to the disturbance. If the National Park Service can give free nights due to a bear then I think a luxury resort can certainly offer something for broken/clogged toilets.

The resort as a whole is a bit more rundown than it has been in the past (I am assuming from covid closures and staff shortages). But we have access to multiple pools and we get beach setup.

I don't know what the cost was before Covid but if they're not able to keep up their standards, they should lower the price significantly for the whole property. You can't charge 3K a night and not have a top notch property.
Like...restaurant leftovers? A box of Triscuits you brought with you? I don't understand.
H was parking the car and I was waiting for him. They have your luggage on the bell hop carts and delivery them to your room. We brough food with us to save money and the guy took some of it off the cart not realizing that I was sitting there. This was an outside company that Disney had a contract with and had been having issues with them. Apparently this was something that proved enough to go back to having the valets be their own employees or cast members.
When I mentioned it to the hotel, it was not about the cost of the food so much as you should feel that your belongings will be safe and not taken or messed with. I did not ask for anything, I just wanted them to know.
I have never been in this situation so I can’t say with certainty how I would react but I hope I wouldn’t report someone who stole groceries.
They probably lost their job, which probably wasn’t paying enough anyway which is why they had to steal the groceries in the first place.

Oh no, this makes me a little sad. I've stayed at this hotel in the condos before (right before the pandy at the end of 2019), and it was one of the best--like BEST vacations we have ever had!
I'm sorry that it's looking a little shabby and that this happened to you here kona. :/
Also, and this is not a reflection of you at all, but now that you posted this, I'm totally having White Lotus quotes running through my head because this place and the surrounding properties were so White Lotus.

I think this is really unfair. It's perfectly reasonable to report a theft of your belongings that you personally witnessed.

anyone remember the pizza place story about an employee stealing by changing tips or something? And by the end it was "They probably need to feed their children!"

I am more annoyed knowing it’s a montage property. We’ve stayed at montage resorts and properties before and the service is usually amazing and it should be for the price tag.
I would expect a 50% refund. I’d say 100% but you did continue staying there so that might be a bit hard to swing. But I think half is reasonable.
One time we stayed in an Airbnb that was filthy and we did stay the two nights because it was kind of a remote area so couldn’t easily go somewhere else. Anyway I did finally get 100% back but it took a lot of fighting mostly because I did stay the full 2 nights. So you never know. But you do need to be a squeaky wheel.

^^^ This. I would escalate to Montage corporate at this point. And a blast or two on social media wouldn’t hurt.

The specific condo isn’t managed by them, so they weren’t involved in the worst parts.
Sorry, so if somebody is underpaid by their employer who is not me, I’m supposed to just look the other way while they steal my groceries?!
Again I have never been in this situation, but I guess I think I would just say to the guy - hey can I have my groceries back? And see how things went from there.

It is entirely possible that person is just a jerk. But maybe he has 7 children and 4 rescued puppies to feed.
They could ask for food, that’s not unreasonable. But to reach into my food and grab some? When they haven’t washed in probably a while isn’t sanitary or safe for me and my family, the people that will be eating the food later. No thank you ma’am.

I’m not sure what the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of the bell hop has to do with anything?

Never change, ML
The pendulum swung so wildly on that thread.
20 children living in a fridge box in an alley vs criminal mastermind fraud billionaire
Personally, I bet the guy who stole the food was Elon Musk.

First, I did not give specific names or even a description and there were many valets down there, so I don't know if he got fired, but Disney did cancel their contract with them because this was one of many complaints against the company. (some people said their cars had been driven longer than just going to park, but they never had an eyewitness, they could simply tell by where the movie or music that was playing in their car was when they got out of the car and where it was when they got it back at the end of their stay). For me it is the principle of the matter. Your belongings, in those situations, are presumed to be safe from someone rifling through them and taking something. I did not ask for anything, I was simply letting them know.

Oy. I agree it matters where you are as well as the price.
I stayed in a fairly nice hotel recently, and the bathroom stunk to high heaven. I mentioned it to staff, but I also knew locally this was a regular problem due to local plumbing issues. I don't think they sent anyone to fix it, maybe they did and were unable, but when I checked out they said they'd upgrade me next time. But, I also wasn't paying much, and I was in the city another couple months, so it was a possibility I could have utilized it.
I don't mind jiggling a handle or sticking my hand in a tank. I did that in my last apartment often even after multiple complaints to landlord. But I cannot abide by clog/overflow. I'd expect 100% for those nights affected. No functioning toilet, or not enough toilets, is a nasty situation.
And keep your filthy paws off my dunkin' donuts! You and your ruffians can scratch in the dirt!

It is ok if you judge me.
I wasn’t tying to be judgy (although I 100% see that it comes across that way) - more like just pondering what I would do in this situation.
The way you describe it going down sounds much better than what I imagined in my head.
And I agree you should be able to trust that your stuff is safe when it’s not with you.
I spent this morning at a meeting of local food pantry directors (I am not one but I volunteer at one) discussing resources and so food insecurity was in the forefront of my mind. I just hate it that the system is so stacked against those who need help the most.
But obviously that has nothing to do with you and I apologize that I made you feel judged.

They’re reaching into a container of food. That’s why.
