I’m not sure what the cleanliness (or lack thereof) of the bell hop has to do with anything?
They’re reaching into a container of food. That’s why.
I think it’s the way you worded it. “Probably hasn’t washed in a while” sounds much worse somehow than “probably hasn’t washed his hands while he’s been touching other people’s luggage all day.”
I assume (hope?) you meant the latter, not that he’s literally one of the unwashed masses ha.
Anyway, I have to admit that I’d feel funny reporting a bellhop. There’s such an enormous power/wealth differential. No matter what his backstory is (whether he’s truly hungry or just a checked-out asshole working a summer job to get some spending money.) I totally understand why others would report — and that’s probably the right call because 1) he could do it to someone else and 2) who knows what else he’s been stealing — but I also understand how it might feel very icky/White Lotus. Like here I am, this rich middle aged white lady on a luxury vacation throwing a fit over a doughnut. But those are my own hang ups, I guess.
Did you ask them to move you? I can't imagine staying in a place after the toilet overflowed.
These are privately owned residences, so they can’t just move you like a hotel because someone else owns the other units.
We have stayed 4 times in a similar, but more remote, situation in the Bahamas. I completely understand how it’s not like dealing with a big hotel and may be more difficult to be compensated appropriately. I wish you luck and keep us updated! Once we were booked at our usual 4 bedroom condo and they had double booked!!!! Thank God the owners and property were able to find another owner with an open condo, it wasn’t as nice, but just glad we had somewhere at that point lol.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
H was parking the car and I was waiting for him. They have your luggage on the bell hop carts and delivery them to your room. We brough food with us to save money and the guy took some of it off the cart not realizing that I was sitting there. This was an outside company that Disney had a contract with and had been having issues with them. Apparently this was something that proved enough to go back to having the valets be their own employees or cast members.
When I mentioned it to the hotel, it was not about the cost of the food so much as you should feel that your belongings will be safe and not taken or messed with. I did not ask for anything, I just wanted them to know.
I have never been in this situation so I can’t say with certainty how I would react but I hope I wouldn’t report someone who stole groceries.
They probably lost their job, which probably wasn’t paying enough anyway which is why they had to steal the groceries in the first place.

goldengirlz, This was 14 years ago when I was 30. lol He was so casual about it that honestly, I doubt this was the first time he snagged something off a cart. His motions seemed matter of fact, for lack of a better phrase.
It's ok. Like I said, I mentioned it, not raising a huge fuss.

I wasn’t thinking of anyone else in particular! Just how I might feel.

Omg!!! Glad they sorted it out.
Will definitely provide an update, likely in a few days.

Hasnt washed in a while. As in, has been handling baggage and cars and sundries for probably a few hours. Not that the individual is an unwashed person.
Sorry that came across a different way!!
But also, getting into patrons belongings is just a solid no. It always has been. It’s a trust and safety issue.

I'm totally enjoying the White Lotus vibes up in here, but realistically--even though it is very weird, and we can definitely have a conversation about power dynamics etc...but isn't the definition of the "Valet" to take care of personal items? So like--if they aren't doing that job...and in fact doing the opposite by TAKING your personal items or abusing them--then
Like THEY aren't acting ethically in the job.
It's not you who isn't acting unethically by reporting unethical behavior.
I posted the non update for anyone still wondering 😭
I would be furious. Is this something that can be disputed with your CC (genuinely asking, I have no idea)? I’d probably also be looking into small claims court in a fit of non response rage. lol
This is BS. I think you said the villas are privately owned but it is advertised through a major resort company, right? Did you contact them also? They need to make it right.
