What do you like to wear when taking a long trip? It’s been far too long since I’ve done this! Next week I have 21 hours (door to door) of travel with my older kiddos (6yo & 8yo). Obviously I want to be comfy but I also want to avoid the pj look.
First leg is the 10hrs on the plane, then a 20 min train ride and finally a 3HR train ride.

Leggings, t-shirt, flannel shirt over that, zip up hoodie with socks and slip-on sneakers. Looks decent, layers give options for different temperatures, I don't have to fuss with shoes after security, and it's comfy.
"Hello babies. Welcome to Earth. It's hot in the summer and cold in the winter. It's round and wet and crowded. On the outside, babies, you've got a hundred years here. There's only one rule that I know of, babies-"God damn it, you've got to be kind.”
That jumpsuit is adorable but that's the last thing you want to be wearing on a plane. Having to take off layers and your whole outfit in a tiny space with people waiting in line? Nope.
The idea of getting out of a jumpsuit to pee in an airplane bathroom is giving me hives lol
You don’t have to get out of it. There’s a button on the back of the neck that opens so you can bring the top down. Then you just tuck the top into the pants part while you pee. It’s really not difficult.
My last super long plane flight (Seattle -> LAX -> Australia, then another flight within Australia) I did leggings, a tunic top, a cardigan, and slip on Sketchers.
For the 9 hour car drives I have to take I either do leggings, a t-shirt, a hoodie, and lace up sneakers (because I'm the one driving, and I like having snugger foot ware for the long trip), OR joggers, a t-shirt, a hoodie, and slip off shoes (because my H is driving, and I might kick off my shoes in the passenger seat).
I’m 5’4” and a size 16, and it looks put together (perhaps even flattering) while being super-comfy.
Do you not wear a bra with this??? I would be totally on board with this if not for the bra situation. I wouldn't be comfortable in a strapless bra while traveling (or at all really, but would tolerate it for a special occasion) but also couldn't go braless and wouldn't want to deal with an exposed bra strap.

It’s not as “off the shoulder” as it looks in the photo. Or maybe it is if you’re tiny and you size up? On me its more boat neck. I just wear a regular wireless bra and it doesn’t show.

I have done similar travel (but twice a year for five years) and am curious where you’re going (just being nosy; don’t feel obliged to answer) but serious head tilt at a jumpsuit. Don’t wear that. Slip on shoes with socks elastic waisted pants, t-shirt, sweater. All slip in stuff, no belts and minimum buttons and zippers. (ETA but i know VillainV is a pro traveler so i trust her advice with this jumpsuit. But I still wouldn’t wear it!)
I think you said how old your kids but i don’t remember. I packed a few small new, no small parts toys to distract them. I even gift wrapped them knowing that would take extra time on the flight and make them more special. Books, too. And if they still make the electronic toy 20 Q I would bend the no battery rule And buy one of those, and maybe even one for each kid. They can play 20-questions with each other or just against the toy. Also Lots of favorite snacks. And Benedryl.
Don’t @ me but my top parent travel tip is to give your perfectly healthy kid Benedryl or Dramamine, but not until the plane leaves the gate. Nothing worse than having to deplane after the kid is out like light. Safe travels!

I do workout leggings with side pockets because those are my favorite things to wear in general, and what I'd wear on top and for shoes would depend on the weather/time of year and destinations. I could do long tunic tanks and slip on comfy casual shoes if it's going to be hot, a casual but cute shirt (probably from athleta) with a cardi over it and tennis shoes if it's going to be chilly or I need to layer, boots in the winter, etc.
I prefer joggers over leggings because 1) pockets and 2) comfier. Pair with a T-shirt, my packable Patagonia and sneakers.
I can go either way on this, because sometimes I feel better and less tired having a little bit of compression from the leggings, but if I have a chance to nap joggers can win out.
But I've also mostly switched to athletic leggings with large side pockets, and they are much better at holding my phone than any of my joggers.

Yeah, I agree comfort can go either way depending on style/brand. I like the soft joggers I have because the waistline feels like pajamas.
But I never underestimate the utility of pockets, especially when traveling with children. Pockets are key.

During the pandemic I've basically switched over to wearing my 32 degrees joggers (from costco) as pajamas. I call them my "going out PJs" because they look decent enough to wear to the grocery store, or to pickup takeout.

I wear Athleta - the Brooklyn ankle pant (in tall just because I like them less cropped) in black, a white tank or tee, and a Pranayama wrap. It's SO comfy and looks polished.

The first part of our trip is Dallas - Heathrow - Cardiff.
I am very lucky that my kids are amazing road trippers so I hope that translates to good on the plane. We drive Dallas - Estes Park with no issues as long as we do unlimited screen time.
No judgement on benedryl but the dose on the label doesn’t make my kids that sleepy. I was planning on melatonin though.
I wear joggers, a long sleeve tee and a cardigan. I used to wear slip on shoes but ever since they started precheck I do not.
I usually pack another wrinkle-free long sleeve tee shirt in my carryon so I can change and feel a little fresher somewhere along the way if I want to.

This is so obvious but a great idea! I have baby wipes for my carry on to clean up a bit so a shirt change would help even more.

I have a few different pants I really like- Prana Halle, a pair or Kuhl pants and a pair of Athleta pants they don’t make anymore, but look like the Trekkie pants. All are fairly light weight, comfortable, and have a variety of pockets, which I find helpful (plus they are faster drying if they get wet). They are black or dark grey and don’t look like PJ’s. For tops I typically do layers and switch my shirt 1/2 way though the trip. (Another reason I don’t like one piece outfits is that it’s harder to swap shirts, which helps me feel cleaner and more awake on a long travel day. Plus I’m sure my kids would drop something on me and I’d have to change my whole outfit in a plane bathroom vs just part).I always go with comfortable sneaker if the flight is longer.

Oh yeah, I also pack a change of clothes plus a few extra pairs of underwear. Both because I've learned from being stuck overnight at a layover without my luggage and having to wash my underwear in the sink and because it's just nice to put on something fresh when you're like 15 hours into your journey.

We are traveling with carry on only partly because I’m scared of lost luggage and partly because I don’t have enough hands to carry something else
-samsonite roller bag & tortuga backpack for our overhead storage -school pack pack for each kid -Nomad Lane bento bag for me
