We are not big flossers and we really need to start. We were at the dentist yesterday and the hygienist recommended the waterpik flosser. She said we could get different heads and all use one system. She also mentioned the one that brushes and flossed. It's quite expensive so I want to make sure I get one that's easiest to use for all 3 of us. Any recommendations? Or tips? It sounds messy. LOL
So I do not recommend the combo waterpik/sonic are for my patients. I think it’s too much going on with one device. I love electric toothbrushes (either Sonicare or Oral B, I use the Oral B) and I love waterpiks but not together. I always recommend floss as the best but for someone who absolutely won’t or can’t floss, I think a waterpik is the next best thing.
I love my Sonicare brush and a pretty basic level Waterpik. I love both.
As far as mess, I actually haven’t had any trouble. I lean over the sink with my head tilted to the side and partially open so the water can fall out. I don’t turn on the water until it’s in my mouth. I’ve only squirted the mirror once…when I was half asleep. I was shocked it wasn’t a huge mess…even when I had braces!
We use the shower safe cordless waterpik. It’s been great especially for my 11 year old who had braces for much of the past year. We use quip toothbrushes.
The Warerpik flosser is great. It actually turned me into a flosser! I started using it, and loved how great it made my teeth and gums feel, so now I use the waterpik AND I floss. It’s a gateway flosser!!!
For toothbrushes we like Sonicare, but I’m also really like the Quip. The Oral-B was really hard on my gums. Really the best toothbrush is the one you use regularly, so just find one you like!
skidunks Would you recommend the waterpik and flossing with regular floss (assume said human flosses twice/day) or is that a bit over the top?
I recommend both flossing and Waterpiking. Floss gets between the contacts of the teeth and the waterpik flushes below the contact and under the gum line. If I have patients that can’t floss I recommend the waterpik as the next best thing. Waterpiks are also great under bridges, with ortho or around implants.

Another vote for the Sonicare; the brush head is small enough that it can get all the way around my molars, and the sound/sensation is weirdly soothing to me in a sort of asmr way - which makes me brush for longer than I used to with a manual.
I use regular floss and just got this cordless waterpik about a week ago. So far I like it!
