It's my remote work day so I'm working on stuff for my sisters wedding shower that I'm hosting tomorrow while working - such a nice perk to remote work.
Yes to longest week ever, and today is absolutely dragging. I logged on at 6:30 to avoid that slow Friday afternoon feeling, but holy crap it's not even 11 yet and I'm so ready to be done!
Looking forward to pizza at the pool tonight, and then DD and I are going out to lunch and seeing SIX tomorrow. Sunday is going to be another lazy/pool day I think.

We get Universal Yums once a month and our most recent country is India. Omg, I’m not a snacker - this is part of my ploy to convince our kids that trying new foods can be fun - but this package contains these mini samosa snacks stuffed with lentils and cashews and raisins that are spicy and delicious and I would eat these all the damn time if they were widely available.

Happy Friday! We have NO weekend plans, other than on Sunday I am going to run a couple of errands in the afternoon. I'm not sure if I'm excited for no plans or sad. It's so hot out that I'm not particularly motivated to go anywhere.
I met up with a friend in DC yesterday and had a nice day. We just walked around and saw a few things (in awful heat) and then had a nice lunch, and it was really nice to catch up with him. There is just something different about being with friends who you've known a long time, and I don't get that much these days.
I went to a farm stand at the library near my house yesterday, and they said they took credit cards but when I went to pay, he told me that it was a $15 minimum (I was only buying $8 worth of stuff). When I said I didn't have cash, he said "ok then, just pay me me next time". I was like - seriously? That's so generous of you! I couldn't believe it. So I left with corn and peaches and without paying anything. I will definitely go back, but I couldn't believe he trusted that!
Today is my 14-year-old kid, A's, last day of work as a camp counselor. They did a great job! One thing A regrets is teaching the kids how to say "grandpa" in sign language. The campers already knew "okay," so all day long they would sign "okay, grandpa" (I guess that's like okay boomer?) at A and it really got on their nerves. A also taught the kids how to blow on grass to make it squeak... another regret, lol.
Wow, sometimes it is really hard to tell a non-confusing story using they/them instead of "she." But I think I will call them "Kid A" from now on.
Tomorrow the kids are going to a friend's lake camp, and H and I are going to our favorite Maine place for the weekend to celebrate our 15th anniversary. It's not the trip to NYC we had originally planned (but couldn't make work), but it will be quiet and a lot cooler than the city, with temps reaching just the mid-70s. I hope we have the time and ability to do something special for our 20th, but Kid A will be in college - yikes! - so who knows if we'll have any money left over after tuition.

My husband went back to work today after almost 2 weeks off. I work Mon-Wed so even though I only took this week off it's like a 2 week vacation for me as well and we didn't sign son up for camp these weeks. It was nice to work last week and not have to worry about making lunch, applying sunscreen, exercising the dog while getting myself ready. We had to do several different camps so I feel like I never know where I'm dropping off. So.much.rushing. It's nice to get a break from that. I'm glad it's too hot to do anything today so we're just lounging around. When it's too hot for the beach it is TOO HOT. Monday is going to be like a punch in the face.

I forgot my mouse at work. H dug to the pits of hell to find one in his hoard of electronics. This damn thing is older than my kids. It has a cord. At least it is USB? 😭 I ordered another mouse for my office. The one they provide is made for kindergartners
We're leaving after lunch for a long weekend near the beach. I'm worried it's going to be too hot to even be at the beach! I didn't even check if our airbnb has AC... I really hope so.

This is our last weekend with my niece and nephew in town ☹️ I really love having them around so much. We’re going to see my big kid’s play (she’s been at theater camp these past 2 weeks) tomorrow. She’s a little bummed that she didn’t get the part she wanted, but is excited for us to see it.
I have to spend part of this weekend figuring out some kind of outdoor art project for my troop. We’re finishing up some galaxy t-shirts inspired by the James Webb telescope photos, but I don’t feel like that’s going to eat up all of our meeting time. My co-leaders think I’m artsy fartsy so I always get stuck with the art badges.
I hate doing art! Hate it!!! I’m much more the “appreciate art because it is amazing and not. my. lane.” person.
A few weeks ago I figured out all of the appointments I needed to make for things that I've been neglecting (physical, mammogram, dermatologist, etc.). I almost forgot I had a 7:30am appointment this morning for the mammogram. I was out last night having margaritas with a friend, so this morning was a little rough getting moving.
We're going to the Phillies game tonight. I'm fully prepared to melt in this heatwave we're having, but hopefully since it's an evening game it won't be too bad. We're meeting up with my H's brother and one of my nieces for the game. She recently moved into her 1st apartment and I haven't seen her in a while. She's so fun and I miss her.
My kids leave today for a 1 week vacation with their Dad. I'll miss them and I'm really not looking forward to being alone with my H for that long. To say that things are tense right now would be the understatement of the year.
At least I do have some stuff planned this weekend. Tonight I'm going to get a new tattoo. Saturday morning I'll hit up the Farmers Market and then at night going to my Mom's for dinner. On Sunday my bestie and her son are coming over to go swimming.

No plans for the weekend, really. Maybe I'll get a garden project finished. I have to work a few hours Saturday and Sunday nights, but I'm off Monday and Tuesday next week so ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

What about sun prints? You can get the paper on Amazon, the girls could gather things outside to put on the paper at the beginning and by the time your done with the other things the prints will be done.

That’s a great idea! But we’re forecasted a pretty big rain storm that day argh!!!
I thought about whittling, but I’ve got a few I’m a little 😬 about giving a pocket knife.

We've done nature (flowers, leave, sticks, rocks, etc.) imprints in air dry clay, easy and cheap.

I start Mounjaro tomorrow night and I'm nervous. Not about the shot itself, but more of the lifestyle change it's going to require. But, my blood sugar has been running high and it's time to get it in check and be the healthiest I can be.
We're taking the nephews to an indoor play place tomorrow. The youngest one is so close to crawling, I hope he figures it out tomorrow while I'm with him.

Tomorrow is our 11th anniversary. We got tickets to an outdoor concert and now it's going to be a heat index of 110 tomorrow with high humidity I'm still going but think I need to go to Target or Walmart to get a couple handheld battery fans. Ugh.
So since we have the concert tomorrow, we're going out to a nice dinner this evening and I'm looking forward to my meal!
I also have a hair appointment this afternoon and I'm going to get pinky/purple highlights in my hair. I haven't done anything fun with my hair in so long.
Tomorrow is camp visiting day for Ds1! I haven’t seen him in 4 weeks so I’m very excited. Unfortunately it’s going to be brutally hot and due to Covid regulations we have to be out on the camp field the whole time (we also all need to be tested on arrival ). Usually it’s a 2 day thing and we can go inside/in the lake. Oh well.
Also my poor dog is still coughing (getting over kennel cough). It just sucks because we have a bunch of trips coming up and she can’t be boarded/with her usual sitters while still coughing because she can’t be around other dogs. We managed to scramble and figure out this weekend, and we are meeting a sitter that hopefully works out for a trip we have in a week, but we have another trip in 3 weeks that I’m stressing about. I mean, I certainly hope she’s better by then, but you never know. And finding a last minute, unknown dog sitter who has no other dogs in August/prime vacation month is not easy. So cross your fingers she gets better soon Omg
So, recently it was discovered that my mom's memory is declining fast. LSS, with my experience with my ILs moving to memory care, I made a leap in starting the process to get my mom's paperwork in order. Things like Power of Attorney for health and finances, updating her will, figuring out her finances, getting supports (house cleaning, etc).
Years ago, I was added to her bank account. Last month, when I dropped her off, her cable wasn't working. We discovered she forgot to pay the bill for 2 months.
Ok. So I set up her online banking so I could set up autopay and during that time, my mom asked me to read over her lease renewal.
I noticed her lease renewal said her rent will be $1065/month. But recalled her bank statements, they were withdrawing $1089 a month. Which is $24 more than what her lease states.
The lease renewal documentation stated she needed to provide proof of rental insurance with the lease or else they will charge an extra $30 a month to cover insurance.
Makes sense.
So late June, I emailed the building manager explaining this situation and asked if the $24 difference was due to my mom not providing the proper insurance paperwork last year or any years before (she's been there.....4-5 years now).
That's all I asked.
Manager replied saying she was on vacation (i knew that) and asked I email her again the week of the 11th.
So I did.
No response.
Gave it another week and called. I got ahold of her and again explained the situation. She attempted to dig up info on her computer, but she said the computer was acting up and she was at a different building. You get the idea. She took my name and phone number and said she would call back.
That was on Monday. Still haven't heard from her.
So yesterday, I sent ANOTHER email just point blank asking if we can get to the bottom of this?
No response.
Today, I called the tenant resource center and left a message asking them to contact me to help me.
I'm impatient and frustrated.
And my mind is wandering thinking that this woman is fleecing my mom. Doubtful since this is run by a management company based where I live, but still.
Any advice? Ideas? Should I call the building management company now?
I'm picking my mom up (I live 2 hours away) next week and can look to see if she has copies of the previous year's leases, but who knows. I also plan to go through her bank statements online to see the history of the auto withdrawal with the building company.

silva, what a mess! So sorry you have to deal with that. If it were me, I'd call the building management company. I hate to say it, but it does sound like the manager could possibly be stealing from your mom. It's a small amount per month, your mom is elderly, the manager's not responding and making up excuses when she does respond...all together it makes it seem very fishy.

Have you found the summer boxes are okay in the heat? I had a sub for Japanese snacks in the past and they were good but I had to skip the summer boxes.

I had a dream last night that I had the brilliant idea to open a restaurant where the theme is "boxed dinners, BUT FANCY." So I was walking through a warehouse-like grocery store, buying up all the pallets of Kraft mac & cheese, which I was then going to prepare one box at a time, and add stuff to it to make it fancy and sell it in my restaurant.
