We met DS's (4th) teacher yesterday and got DD's (8th) schedule this morning, and everything looks good for both of them. Really glad we're not going to have to do any change requests for DD. Can't believe school starts next week!
Everything on my calendar for today was canceled, now I don't know what to do with myself.
I can’t get over how early school starts in some areas. We always went back after Labor Day. A lot of counties here still do but a good number are going back on the 29th this year with a couple already back. My birthday is Friday (the 19th) and I would have been so sad to go to school on my birthday! I loved having a summer birthday growing up.
But I love August. It’s hot and humid but all the trees and plants are at peak shaggy overgrowth and there are lots of blooms. All the good produce is in season! Fall is so depressing because everything is dying. Give me all the living excess!

DS6' school is starting a week earlier than last year (next Wednesday) on the 24th. Last year it started around the 30th.
Growing up I always liked the way the schedule eased me back into the school routine with a 3 day week, 4 day week (after labor day) and then a 5 day week.
The temperatures this week have been fantastic so far. I hope they continue into the weekend - I have a lot of outdoor plans on Friday night/Saturday morning. It looks like it will be around 85 which can be very pleasant or very miserable depending on humidity.
We started watching Narcos recently and it has not helped my desire to go to Colombia for one of our next trips. Obviously I don't want to build a time machine and go back to the terror that was happening at the time that the show was set, but it looks absolutely beautiful and like a place I would love. I hope we can make it work next year since we weren't able to for our Thanksgiving trip.
I just picked up my first PSL of the year (I may be basic but I love fall!) and am enjoying it on a bench at a local arboretum. I should be working, but I needed to get out of the house. I wasn't being productive anyway.

My ds just got an expander and herbst appliance put on, and he will get braces after he's done with turning the expander. I know he will get used to it and everything, but the herbst (that corrects his overbite) doesn't really allow his back teeth to close, so I'm not really sure how he's supposed to chew at all . The orthodontist suggested soft, easy food for the next few days but after that said he should be able to eat anything other than extremely crunchy/chewy/sticky stuff, but I am nervous ds is going to want to live on soft pasta and applesauce pouches beyond the next few days, and this is a kid that cannot afford to loose any weight or cut out any food from what he already usually eats.

My kid goes to a balanced calendar school so she started yesterday. Same number of days just spread out differently. Can't have less than 6 weeks or more than 8 weeks off for summer and we have Intersession weeks off so has a week off in late Oct and mid Feb plus winter break and spring break and a few other sporadic days and early release days. We really like it and my kid does well with just a "shorter" summer break because she doesn't get totally out of school mode.

We had the same issue with my son who also couldn't afford to lose weight (and I had literally just taken him to the pedi to talk about it). First few weeks with the twin block were a bit rough and I let him take them out to eat (because I care more about weight gain than . The bottom one broke at some point during that time and they had to do another set of molds and remake them. Whatever they had done the first time must have been slightly incorrect, because with the new set he's able to eat normally and no pain!
So I'd say give it a bit and see if it gets any better. And also have them double check the fit!

I have three cats, one of which is horrible whenever someone goes to the vet and comes back "smelling funny." My tuxedo had to go in for a regular visit last night. We were gone from the house for 90 minutes and yes, he was cuddled by the technicians so I'm sure he picked up their scent as well as the office scent. And we've had 14 hours of grumbling and hissing from my fluffy boi. Sigh. I'm hoping that it has finally settled down now.
Cat tax, because while he's an asshole sometimes, he's also a cutie.
And the poor, pitiful tank when he's not being picked on...
We're having my son's birthday party today at the local bowling alley. My husband took off so it's nice that I won't be there alone and we can take 2 cars and pick up/drop off the kids at home. It is such a luxury to have a party during the week. No problem getting the time we wanted. I got everything finished last night so no big stress. I didn't even take off, I'm just leaving a little early. This is the first time we're having his party at a place that provides the food and drinks. IT'S SO EASY. They're at a good age for bowling and it's 6 kids he's really friends with. It's going to be a great party and he's so excited!

The other district in my city is moving towards that starting this year. I'm not sure if DS' district will or not. It's going to be a mess for childcare options for school age kids with half the city's kid on one schedule and half on a vastly different schedule.
isabel, so sweet! One of my friends just posted 1st day pics on social media and she wrote kindergarden on the sign :/ I will obviously NOT mention it but I felt bad for her, especially if her SIL sees it because she 100% will say something.
I started season 4 of "Killing Eve" a couple of days ago. Jodie Comer, who plays Villanelle, is so incredibly talented. And I love Eve's evolution throughout the show. Very curious to see how this all ends up.

I got nervous this morning that I had spelled it wrong even though I know I didn’t. Lol

Once upon a time when I worked a very stressful job and had put in 70+ hours that week, I left a note for the next person coming in that the files were in "alfa order." OMG.
I went to the dermatologist this morning and walked out with four (4!) new prescriptions. Two topical steroids for seborrheic dermatitis, Oracea, and a topical cream for rosacea.
I am done playing games with my stupid, high maintenance face. Done.
We're holding DS back this year for another run at 5th grade so all the "first day of X grade" is hitting me in a way that is entirely on me and my expectations/ideas of success. He struggled during the pandemic, missed basically half of third grade and we're addressing it now before he falls too far behind, he's in a blended 4-6 class anyway, it doesn't matter, yadda yadda. I know the happy shiny kids on the first day isn't real life but right now I'm just logging off Facebook.
Blah.
ETA: Not at all aimed at you isabel, he's super darling; it's everywhere.

Is season 4 better than season 3? I haven't watched it yet. I felt like season 3 was only worth watching when Jodie Comer was on the screen.

circa1978 logging off FB is good. You are doing exactly what your kid needs. FB highlights the good, every family and kid has struggles. I hope your son has a great year.
I twisted the shit out of my ankle yesterday. It's swollen and bruised but life must go on so I am limping around in a spare ankle boot. I'm so annoyed bc I have been really active lately and actually feeling better since we moved. It hurts as much emotionally as physically I think.
I have really hypermobile ankles so it's not shocking, I roll my ankles often... but I heard a pop and fell over so that's not good.
I love my house and it will work for our family long term but I often get house jealousy because it’s smaller for our neighborhood. Idk why I do this to myself because I don’t want a huge house! It’s probably just blahs from a year of slowly doing updates (old house problems) and not decorating.
