My Dad is 79 today, so DH and I are taking my parents to lunch to celebrate. He wants to go to the restaurant that just happens to make the best margaritas in our city, so that's happening in a few hours.
DD did really well at her swim club tryout last night. We find out later next week if she makes it or not. If so, hello recommended 3 to 5 practices a week.

Also, my massage and facial the other day were fabulous. I did not know who was doing either service. The woman doing my massage ended up being an acquaintance, kids go to same school. First time we had seen each other since her life imploded in a public way due to no fault of her own, it was the actions of her now ex husband. When she came out to get me I saw her smile waver a moment when she saw me and I feel so bad that she must feel like that when she sees people who knew her before. I of course mentioned nothing and just smiled, buy yeesh. She looks well and healthy otherwise and I hope those types of moments decrease for her soon.
Pennsylvania politics are such a shit show. I will say, trolling Dr. Oz has been delightful. I hope the polls are accurate and he and the R gov candidate get trounced.

A teammate of mine works very closely with the Commonwealth (not in a political capacity, but he knows a lot of the internal players with all of the state agencies). He is also a staunch Republican. He was saying at our team meeting yesterday that based on what he hears around the capitol, Shapiro should win in a landslide. So, FINGERS CROSSED!!!
My son's birthday party went so well yesterday that I feel like I'm riding a high. He invited 6 friends. 2 from his new school had never met the other 4 and the group of 4 from the neighborhood had varying levels of closeness among them. They all just melded together right away laughing and talking. It was the only party there so after bowling they had the whole arcade to themselves and it was half price day. Their credits lasted FOREVER. They all won stuffed animals in the crane game, redeemed tickets for weird prizes. It was like some magic, blessed day. We were there about 3 hours and when we dropped them off they all got online and played roblox together for hours. He was so grateful and happy.

Thank GOD! My mom is a lifelong brainwashed R (like Reagan R, hates Trump but would never vote D). Even she is a hard no on Mastriano. I keep telling what a good egg Shapiro is. Rock solid.
What do we think is the fastest for lunch takeout at a small locally owned pizza/sandwich shop type place—
going in person when they open and ordering there
calling in the order from home and heading over
placing an order online before they open and scheduling pick up about 30 minutes after opening
This has been a surprisingly hot debate in our circle this week. Delivery is not an option, we are out of the radius and would be picking it up and going to a third location anyway.
I went to see Blue October/Goo goo dolls last night. Great show even though GGD didn't play my favorite song. I'm sad my summer concert spree is coming to an end, only 2 shows left. I need to find some fall shows to attend. Live music makes me so happy.

I just bought a handheld vacuum cleaner and am so excited about it that I a) paid extra for next day delivery (it was only $1 though, so why would you not) and b) am considering it my early birthday present to myself. 37 is apparently going to be a real wild year for me.
tacokick- By fastest, do you mean least amount of waiting? Are you ordering cold sandwiches that can be made ahead or pizza that needs to be made right before pickup? If it's cold sandwiches that can be made ahead and their online ordering isn't a 3rd party, I pick option #2. If you put the order in the morning of pickup, they can probably get the sandwiches done before they open. I just saw some weaving equipment that is going to be sold at an estate sale next week and thought of you.

Yes, least amount of waiting! The order is probably a mix of hot and cold sandwiches. No pizza. Maybe fries?
Weaving equipment! That’s fun! I have estate sale alerts set up. I lost one recently by $60 and I’m still sad about it. I’m happy weaving is now associated with me

I had to ask my Louisiana coworkers what a fais do do is and how to pronounce it. Fay doe doe and it's a dance. They find it so funny that I don't know their words, but at the same time are gracious and patient in explaining them to me. I plan to go to a shrimp festival this weekend and there will be a fais do do.

When I try to search for audiobooks that are available now through my library, the first several pages of options are always mostly books that I've read. I'm not sure why they are suggesting books I've borrowed from them in the past, or are they NOT doing that and I've just read way too many popular books? Either way it's kind of annoying.
I'm trying to figure out what to order for groceries this week. The next 10ish days are super busy and dinner is going to be interrupted at least a couple of times by needing to get somewhere by 5-6pm so I'm kind of stumped on what to make. I really need to start involving my H more in meal planning because I feel very burned out on thinking of things to eat constantly.

I'd order online, but it depends on the restaurant. A few restaurants near us don't even pick up the phone anymore for orders when they are busy. But the online orders are ready exactly at the pickup time on the order (never early LOL!).

Hmm... For the best quality since there's hot food involved, I'd show up at opening and wait so I can get it the minute it's ready. I'd also have an insulated bag for the hot food but admit that I'm a bit extra with things like this.
I love estate sales! I just noticed that the sale also has a couple of spinning wheels too.

We own both a pizza bag and many insulated food bags so I am ready for any takeout situation. I even have ice packs for cold stuff. I’m 100% extra at all times. The showing up at opening vs calling at opening are the two most fiercely debated options.
Spinning wheels!! Too bad (I think) you are too far from me to check this out.
It's 6th grade transition day for DD. The bus picked her up for an abbreviated day ahead of the first day of school on Monday. I'm proud of her for being excited and only a little nervous. Her two BFFs have a LOT of anxiety about going to middle school - understandable, for sure, but I'm always in awe of how DD takes on a new challenge.
Unrelated, I really hate Hulu's main page interface. Why are my "continue watching" shows buried under so much other shit?!

It's worth it to be extra! If you're going to eat it, it might as well be as good as possible. If you're the one picking up, do what you want. (I'm curious which your preference is.)

Yeah- I'm far from you but messaged you the link.
Normally I am team place the order in person. I think awkwardly looming there speeds it up. But last time I did this here it took almost an hour to get the food. Which might have been a fluke but we were all hungry and cranky by the time I got to the final destination.
My husband is team call and head over and it will be ready when you arrive. Friends suggested placing the order online and assuming it will be ready at the scheduled time. We don’t normally do any online ordering since we never do delivery so that generally doesn’t occur to me.

I hate making calls and going places (lol) so I order online whenever places offer it through their own website (so not through Doordash or whatever that will take some of the money). I've never had an issue with ordering online - the orders are usually processed immediately. I guess if I were to say one thing that is annoying is that often you'll get a confirmation email that states a time it will be ready, and it's not unusual for it to actually be ready much sooner. So if you planned to pick it up 30 minutes from now, I'll get a text that says it's ready just as I'm leaving my house. I like my food hot so that irritates me.
But it's easy, at least, and I've never shown up somewhere and had to wait more than 5 minutes. I would never wait to place an order until I showed up in person - that is definitely going to take the longest because they have to start cooking it after I've ordered so unless it's a fast food place that's going to take a while.
Tomorrow will be DD's FIRST ever Duran Duran concert. We're so excited! We're seeing them near the Twin Cities tomorrow night then headed to Chicago for a second show with DD, DH and my brother. Last time we saw them was in 2016! So we're long overdue!

Going in person is my usual choice because then I get it the second it was ready rather than waiting here for the place to open, calling, driving over and either it would be ready and already getting cold or it would not ready and then I’d have to wait there. So more in-person waiting but overall quicker pick up if that makes sense?
I did get burned by ordering online while I was taking weaving lessons. I picked 30 minutes out and wrote in the notes I was unable to pick it up earlier because I was in a class next door so please have it ready at the chosen time (this was at like 3 pm so a very slow time to make a request) and it was ready in five minutes and cold and gross at 3pm. I still took it, paid for it and tipped but yuck. I was so hungry!
Getting takeout is supposed to be the easy solution! I’d just make sandwiches myself but I’m meeting people and everyone wants something different.
In case you were curious whether 1. Middle school is still the worst, or 2. If tween/teen girls are still dramatic, this morning my daughter told me I was a "sick, twisted monster" for...declining to quit my job and homeschool her and instead insisting that she go to school.
Yay.
I was not looking forward to this out of state conference next week because managing that and work was stressing me out. But now? BYE. I'd rather make small talk with strangers.
DH is waiting to see if he’ll be part of the jury selection for a first degree murder trial. Yeesh. He’s got some time off next week, but I’m certain this isn’t how he was hoping to spend it.
DS2 was so excited for his second day of kinder. As soon as he saw his para (who walks the K kids into school) he was like “can I go!?” There was a kid today who was freaking out about his dad leaving and DS2 walked right over and introduced himself and tried to engage the kid in conversation. His para looked at me and said “he’s just such a sweet, helpful kid.” It made my heart happy.
I literally have one 15 minute window without meetings today. This is going to be so ridiculously unproductive and I have a shit ton on my plate right now. Sigh.
I'm thinking about signing up for a Costco membership. I currently shop at Sam's Club (via my MIL's membership) once or twice a month. The Costco near me is closer, and they have better deals on prescriptions.
I had the dermatologist send two prescriptions to Costco for me so I can check out the store when I pick them up.
This is a good idea, right? I mean, I'm not paying for Sam's membership, so I'd be spending extra to shop at Costco, but it would be worth it, right? Or is the quality basically the same?

My L has also requested homeschooling this week. Maybe we can ship them off together to boarding school?

I think it really depends on the place. I was thinking "pizza place" and the 2 places I go, if they even have online ordering it would definitely be the last place they'd check. There's also an amazing dumpling place that does have online ordering but the first time I used it I called to see if they got it and it was as if they had no idea what I was talking about. And I don't mean just my order, their actual ordering system! LOL But they're made to order and I don't want to wait so I always call it in and pick up. But then I was thinking about Jersey Mike's (sandwich place) and online is the only way I ever, or will ever, order. Click a couple of buttons and it is ready exactly when they say it will be. There's really no one answer.
I've been at our cottage by myself since Sunday to take care of some things down here and to get some work done in peace. H is home with the kids and they were tentatively planning to come back last night but now are not coming until tomorrow morning.
It has been heavenly to have some time to myself. I've been sleeping in, taking long walks, cooking for one, having drinks with our neighbors, working outside by the water. But...I miss my kids so much. I can hear little kids squealing and laughing down on the beach, and I keep wishing they were my kids.
