I would expect them to reschedule when they could fit it in if I asked to postpone it. If I flat out cancelled it I would not expect it to be rescheduled unless I specifically asked for it to be rescheduled but I would not expect them to proactively reschedule something I had asked to be cancelled. I would also recognize that they Have other clients on their schedule and they might not have an opening. Now if THEY cancelled bc of the rain I would expect an automatic reschedule.

I've been out of town since Sept 4 and got home yesterday. They were scheduled to come the Thursday before (Sept 1). In the past when they've canceled because of rain, they've come to mow whenever they could get caught up. I was surprised to come home yesterday to my yard looking like a jungle.
I texted him yesterday and he was planning to come on my regular scheduled day. I'm also friends with his wife. He did offer to come 1 day early.
I would expect a reschedule. If our grass gets too long the city comes out and cuts it, the bill isn’t cheap. 4 weeks is way too long between cuttings.

If this happens, our company (it’s 2 brothers) will generally come the next day. They do a lot of homes in our neighborhood, so I think they try to either double up their load that day and work early/late, or push everyone a day until they get caught up again.

This. Ours will cut in the rain unless it's unsafe/thunderstorms or torrential downpours, but if they do not show on the usual day, they have never been more than 2 days later than usual. But we also get it cut every week.

I would expect them to come the next possible day. Really the rain should just bump their schedule back by a day (two at most), and they should automatically resume where they left off.
I don’t think I’d keep using a company that thinks leaving a yard unmowed for nearly a *month* is acceptable service. Two weeks is already too long during the peak grass growing periods, or at least it is where I live.
Our lawn guy doesn’t give us a scheduled date. He just comes when it needs it. I don’t know if he does drive by to check on it, or if he just knows. But he gets it done, and that works for us. And FWIW he mows in light rain.

Since they’ve done it correctly in the past, hopefully this was a fluke. I’d ask him what happened that it was left unattended for so long, though, and I’d ask him to not do that again. If he did it again, I’d find someone else for sure.

This is how all the lawn crews we've ever had do it. We've had the same crew now for probably 12 years and I don't think I've done more than wave at them in years except to tell them when we want the beds mulched. It rains a lot here (normally, not this summer) and we definitely cannot go 4 weeks without the lawn being done. Frankly, besides the fact that they do a good job, we've used this one for so long because they are so consistent about coming without any effort on my part.

Normally I'd probably find someone else but I'm friends with his wife 🥲🥲
