I put none, but my male dog definitely had a better personality. He was a total fan favorite everywhere he went, but also loyal. He always wanted to snuggle with me and be on my lap.
My female is sweet and cute, but she likes to sleep, and doesn’t like people as much as he did. I’d say she prefers my H to me, and the boy preferred me.
So, idk, I guess anecdotally I may lean slightly toward a male dog for my next one? I am a pug person, and we’ll likely adopt our next one.
ETA: His penis was…never an issue 🤨. Lol, and you people kissing your dog’s bellies anywhere near the genitals are weirdos! I will pet my dog’s belly, but never occurred to me to kiss it! /gavel

Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
I have had both (1 male and 2 females) and they have all been amazing. Though we are still in early days with my 2nd female.
When my first girl passed and it was time to get another companion for my male, I knew it would be a female since he doesn't always do great with other males, even though he is neutered. So another girl it was. TBH, when it comes time to get my 4th dog, it will likely have more to do with size than sex at that point because I will be in my 60s and may not want a 50-70 lb dog like my current dogs are.
ETA: Willow and Tulip, the females mark WAY more on walks than Cricket, the male, does. Willow thought she was the boss of everyone and wanted them to know she was around so that made sense and Tulip seems to have that personality too. Cricket is the follower and hardly marks at all and usually at the same spots vs all the spots like my other two.

I've loved my boys and my girls. I have noticed that my girl (doodle) is better for coming with me on exercise walks, she does not demand to sniff every.single.thing. but we have pee spots on our grass from where she likes to pee so thats a minus. She's a big cuddler.
My dog before this was a boy (westie), and I adored him, I wanted another dog just like him he was almost as snuggly as my current dog (this one wants to be held like a baby on her back, which he was not ok with). He wanted to pee on everything but literally no pee comes out after the first pee, so weird! Both dogs were/are like my shadow.
My female bulldog I had a while back was legit insane, but I think thats a breed thing and not a sex thing 🤣
The penis comments are so odd to me. I never found my dog’s penis bothersome in any way and I frequently picked him up, rubbed his belly, etc.
My dog didn’t pee excessively on anything outside and never inside after he was house trained as a puppy. For this reason though, I will never, ever have a cat. The stories here have horrified me.
When you say not bothersome you mean you never accidentally touched it, or it just didn't bug you? I swear I have a normal level of coordination, but especially on smaller dogs there just isn't that much space, and a belly rub or picking up has resulted in a penis brushing my hand several times. Not the end of the world but definitely a momentary eww.
I mean, there's basically no way that I never touched his penis in the process of picking him up, but I'm fairly sure I never touched it when it was sticking out. lol It's not like I was picking him up and rubbing his belly when it was... erect?
Anyway, touching the outside part just wasn't a big deal to me I guess.

I have a small boy dog and in the 5 years we’ve had him, I haven’t thought about his penis as much as I have the past five minutes reading this thread.
Disproportionate to the actual amount of penis on a dog (those with irreparable humpers I would excuse, but this thread has illustrated that it’s not gender specific).
Has the obsession with male genitals spilled across species?

I don’t have a preference really but if we were ever to get another dog (probably won’t) I would prefer male overall female simple because our female pee is ruining parts of our grass which I am told does not happen with males.
I have had male and female cats. My males have been more cuddlier/friendlier/less shy than my females (with some exceptions).
Growing up my childhood best friend had a male dog (that was fixed) that got visible erections and humped people all the time, and it scarred me for life from ever having a male dog. I'm sure not all male dogs do that, but they had trainers try to help them break the dog from the habit and it never helped and I hated being around their dog because of it (it was a perfectly friendly golden retriever) and I've seriously only ever had female dogs because of this.
My one female dog does masturbate though, so I feel like the joke is sort of on me. At least she does it outside and away from people?
This is why my mom has only ever had female dogs. Her uncle had a humping dog that tried to use her a few times when she was little and she was like never again.
HOWEVER-their current dog had a moment when they first got her where she tried to hump both my kid and my niece. 🤣. The dog and kids were all a year old or younger and it stopped fairly quickly.

Anecdotal, but this is 100% true for us. Our female created yellow patches alllllll over our yard and there is absolutely no damage from our male.
We've had both, and are starting to talk about our next dog. I don't really have a preference. We haven't really found that how snuggly, aloof, mischievous, etc. they are varies along sex lines.
I typically own one of each, but always gravitate towards males first. In my experience, they are more cuddly and complete doofs. I also like that they are larger than females.

This is so surprising to me! Part of why I asked is because I live in a house of males and I've joked that our next dog will need to be female so I have a teammate, but then it occurred to me that most dogs I have known and loved have been males and then I wondered if it's because they're better.
The one female I've known most recently was legit a snarky, sassy bitch. I did not enjoy her. I guess I was wondering if that's typical of females. LOL
FWIW, my male dog loves my H. I think all of our dogs will TBH. My H has a way with dogs that I think they really love and I can't replicate.
Also--my male dog still gets belly rubs. His penis has never been an issue. He also pees like a girl when he really needs to go. He marks and lifts the leg on walks.
This seems really silly, but we'll try to adopt a female dog mainly to balance out the sex/gender breakdown of our house I have one daughter and three sons.

I have a neutered male dog who pees like a female dog (squats down vs lifting his leg). He marks as much as all the female dogs that I dog sit. I have one female who marks more than any male dog I have ever watched. Dogs are weird.
I need ham like water Like breath, like rain I need ham like mercy From Heaven's gate Sometimes ham salad or casserole or ham that’s free range, all natural I need ham

I have my first male dog now. He's super sweet but it's so annoying to take him on walks because he has to mark on everything. My next pet will be a female.
