**Thanks for all the suggestions, everyone! I went with the Lapperts. She's posted about their ice cream several times when they have been out there, so I am hopeful it will make her smile!**
I have a friend going through a pretty tough time and I'd like to send or bring her something that will make her smile. Hawaii is her happy place and her family spends about 6 weeks there a year. They visit all the islands and love more secluded spots.
What is something I can order directly from the islands and have sent to her? Nothing too touristy, but still special to Hawaii.

Anything from Honolulu cookie company LINK. Also you can order from the ABC Stores online and get made in Hawaii items like chocolate covered macadamia nuts, Lion coffee, Hawaiian Sun products, etc..
Chocolate covered macadamia nuts? yes- not unique, but Hawaii and chocolate. Both good for hard times. And maybe some good fruits. (they sell Lapperts Ice cream in stores around here. Perhaps that's an option? https://lapperts.com)

Just a few days ago I tossed a containers of red dirt from Maui and black sand from the big island. I wish I’d known!
OP I just recalled that the last time I visited (2010) I bought a couple of Hawaiian print aprons that I still have and love to use. The tags are long gone so I have no website rec but if she’s an apron person (I definitely am an apron person) that might be nice.
I received a bouquet from here and they were the most gorgeous flowers I’ve ever received. They were packed so well & lasted way longer than I expected. www.mauifloral.com/
