I'm not there but the other day North Dakota was closed. Straight up CLOSED. The Department of Transportation map was all red, every single road. All closed!
Yup, Ohio. It won’t affect our plans because we’re traveling 0.4 miles this year. Lol. It might affect some family members being able to travel to be with us, but from what I understand plans are in the process of being adjusted accordingly.
We aren't projected to get any snow or ice but we are expecting very cold weather (teens) and our pipes aren't really built to withstand that. I just hope we keep power. Do not want a repeat of 2021 with damage to the house.
You probably already know this, but just in case or for others: Leave cabinet doors open underneath bathroom and kitchen sinks (assuming house heat is working); and set the faucets to just a very slight drip to keep water flowing.
Looks like I'm going to miss the weather coming later this week - we are leaving Wednesday night and it looks like Friday is going to be the worst, with some on Thursday. But it will also be in the 50's those days so probably just rain. We are going to Houston where it will be unusually cold, but coming from the north I'm not terribly worried about it.
This is the first year I guess I'm glad we're not going "home" to Chicago area to celebrate - I hope you all in that area end up with less weather than predicted and can enjoy your holidays!

I’m in Eastern Ontario and it’s supposed to be warm and rain. So gross. I hope the storm isn’t as bad as predicted for everyone. I would take snow over rain here for sure.
Our forecast is for 50° and rain all day Friday. I wish it were snow instead for our first Christmas in New England, but I hope those that are supposed to get hit really hard are spared.

Yup. Right now I'm hanging on the "potentially" when the local NWS office says it could impact travel "potentially into Saturday." Right now they're saying later in the day Saturday looks like it will be safe, so I'm crossing my fingers that it all breaks apart early. I plan to grab some extra Christmas-y stuff when we go shopping tonight just in case we do end up having to stay home. They're predicting polar vortex-level windchills so that's what I'm worried about more than snow.
Just extreme cold. I'm in ERCOT hell, so I'm hoping we don't lose power. We luckily have a gas stove and gas fireplace so I stocked up on Ramen at the store just in case. If I eat Top Ramen on Christmas Day instead of my elaborately planned meal, I'm going to be so sad. At least there will be wine.
I'm in SE WI and we were planning to leave Friday morning to drive to Springfield, IL to spend Christmas Eve with my son and DIL. I have a feeling that isn't going to happen. We might possibly be able to leave early on Saturday, but it's a 5 hr or so drive on a good day only to turn around and leave early Sunday to head back home to spend Christmas day with my parents. Not sure it's worth the risk or craziness.
I'm still planning everything as if I'm going just in case the weather changes by some miracle. I have a grocery pick up Thursday afternoon. Not sure if I'm even going to be able to get to the store if it's as bad as they are saying it's going to be.
We don't usually have issues with power going out, so I'm not overly worried about that for us. With the bitter cold we are supposed to have I worry about those that do tend to lose power.
I am in IL, and I feel like a complete idiot that losing power never occurred to me. I was just thinking of being prepped to not be able to leave the house for a couple days.

We’re supposed to get 1-7 inches (seattle area) It’s not supposed to be above 35 for days. I don’t think I’ll be going into work the rest of the week. Lol
Yes; supposed to hit on Thursday-Friday. Thankfully only local travel is planned (my son will already be home from school by tomorrow evening, and settled in with his Dad’s for the whole holiday weekend). We have never lost power due to snowstorms in almost 20 years in this house, so knock wood on that!
We plan to do takeout for Christmas Eve and Christmas but if even that becomes impossible, we have groceries and frozen pizzas so we should be ok.
My heart goes out to anyone with travel plans that may be affected!

Same. We just moved into our house (burbs) this year and while technically we have a fireplace, I have zero idea if it is functional or not. Good god...this is not really how I wanted to find out.
I'm so used to being in the city (Chicago) and losing power is not a thing really there. Or if we did, we'd get it back in a few hours. I'm kinda freaked out right now tbh.
We had already canceled our Christmas plans over the weekend due to the extreme cold.
No snow. Just really cold temps here. Nothing above 20 with lows in the negatives until Christmas Day. Then we get up to 32 I think. Or near it anyway.
I'm in central WA state. SO glad we no longer need to travel over a snowy pass to see family at the holidays!

We're in FL and coming home Thurs instead of Friday, like we planned. I was worried if we got stuck that our dog sitter wouldn't be able to make it to our house. Bummed we have to cut vacation short but it sounds like we could get from 8-20."

It's really only top of my mind because it has happened to us before with a winter storm and even with thunderstorms, I feel like my house loses power more than most. So whenever meteorologists start talking about winds over like 60 with any kind of storm, I get nervous. Just in Sept we had a not-that-bad thunderstorm and were out of power for a whole day.
We aren't projected to get any snow or ice but we are expecting very cold weather (teens) and our pipes aren't really built to withstand that. I just hope we keep power. Do not want a repeat of 2021 with damage to the house.
Abs and I are in the same area so this is my same response. My dad has a generator so we have a warm safe space if we lose power, but I'm not anticipating it being that bad (fingers crossed)
My family is traveling from Michigan to us in New England this week (on Tues, Fri and Sat) and I'm really worried that between the Midwest storm and the "bomb cyclone" that's supposed to hit us in New England on Friday that the later part of our group won't make it

Same. According to the forecasts yesterday it wasn't supposed to really snow today, but it was lightly snowing all morning (wasn't sticking). I'm kind of hoping we get enough, and that it doesn't all go away over the weekend, because I kind of don't want to go over to my SIL's for Christmas Eve and Christmas day dinner. I'm just... not feeling it, but I already agreed and I don't want to back out now because that's not fair to my H or SIL. It's not their fault, it's the blah-humbugs.
I just want to sit around in my PJs, drinking my sparkling wines from Costco, and eating cheese and crackers.
Vancouver Island. We just got about 1-2cm in greater Victoria and as usual people are losing their damn minds. Nobody knows how to drive in snow. Last night I drove well behind a bunch of dumdums breaking through a turn on a steep road. These same cars then stopped in the middle of a merge lane. Roads today aren't even slick. Everyone is stocking up on supplies because the forecast says 15-20cm by tomorrow night.
Maybe? LOL - the meteorologists are holding off predicting what will happen in MI until it gets closer. I'm going to the store tonight to get the last few things we need for the holiday meals so I can hopefully miss the mad rush of folks stocking up.
Kid is worried it will mess up plans for Christmas Eve with family but we'll see.
Otherwise we're stocked with firewood and kerosene should the power go out but thankfully that doesn't happen too often because our power lines are buried.
I just watched our local news (metro Detroit, not sure where you are) and while they haven’t given accumulating snows numbers they are saying it will start as rain Thursday and then turn to snow Friday into Saturday.
We are suppose to go to my MIL Friday in Saginaw and if it is as bad as they are saying I don’t want to go until later in the week but H is all ‘no we will go Blah blah blah. We can leave Thursday…’ but I don’t want to spend two nights there it’s a pain in the ass. So annoying.
Apparently, we are in it again (Buffalo), but they haven't quite nailed down how bad they think it will be for us except to say potentially expect feet of snow (again). Seems a bit unfair since we had that giant major storm just before Thanksgiving, but here we are.
I hope everyone in the path of the storm stays safe, warm, and well fed! I feel like this storm is the winter in the north’s version of the hurricanes Florida got in September/October.
I live in NY and was supposed to drive to Cleveland on Friday. Right now that's looking dubious. Hopefully it will be safe to drive Saturday, if not Friday.
