I’m in the Seattle area and we got about 4”. It was raining when I got up at 7am but pretty quickly turned to snow. I managed to shovel before it turns to a sheet of ice later and I’m hoping the roads aren’t too bad tomorrow because I have a ton of errands to run. It’s supposed to warm up by Christmas so I don’t think our plans will be impacted at all..
ny96 what did you decide? I hope you convinced your H to rent the car and start out on Wednesday. Scroll down to see what Lake Shore Drive looked like during the last big blizzard:
I am jealous of you Midwesterners. Because I never owned a car in Chicago and lived in an apartment where someone else did all the shoveling, I used to love snowstorms there. It's supposed to be rainy and in in the 40s in Maine all weekend. No snow for us on Christmas!
We are leaving at noon tomorrow and I was able to rent an SUV and added insurance which I never do normally.
I need Midwest posters to weigh in. We are currently in the Twin Cities visiting family. The plan is to pick up a rental car at noon on Thursday and drive to Michigan for Christmas (other side of the family) spending the night in Chicago and arriving on Friday. I’m trying to convince H to change our rental car reservation to Wednesday instead, but he’s hesitant. I think we are going to be better off driving Wednesday into Thursday, but I can’t figure out what the weather people are saying about the storm, especially across multiple states. Last year we didn’t make it to Michigan until Christmas morning due to multiple flight cancellations. I’d like to avoid that this year.
I would 100% leave Wednesday. I would not plan on getting anywhere late Thursday or at any point on Friday. Or leave late Friday after the snow but even that is going to be dicey.
It stopped snowing here around 2pm, but our city is an ice rink. I ran out to the grocery store (less than half a mile) and there were cars all over, semis jack-knifed on the highway. H came home at 3:30 and it's normally a 7 minute drive. He had to go around two accidents and then try to find a way that didn't involve stopping on any hills. We keep really good winter tires on our vehicles and I am a confident winter driver, but I would still rate this among the top worst storms I've driven in. It's so cold and dry that once the snow compacted under tires on the road it was a sheet of ice.
Apparently, we are in it again (Buffalo), but they haven't quite nailed down how bad they think it will be for us except to say potentially expect feet of snow (again). Seems a bit unfair since we had that giant major storm just before Thanksgiving, but here we are.
obviously Buffalo here- no travel plans and i love any amount of snow- but at this point i feel like these storms are just following our football team
Buffalo here too. Only have plans to travel locally, but we will cancel/change plans if need be. I am planning to host Christmas Eve but I am supposed to pick up DDs from XH (Cheektowaga) and then head out to my uncle’s (NT) Christmas Day.
Welp school is early out tomorrow and e-learning Thursday. They usually don't decide this early! Probably just said screw it with the holiday 😂
Our school cancelled for Thursday early this afternoon. Tomorrow is a regular day as scheduled.
I’m glad they went ahead and called it early. Now teachers and staff can change their plans based on what they know, not just hope…and find out for sure when it’s too late to change plans.

We are flying through Seattle tomorrow. I'm not worried about leaving MN because we know how to de ice baby. But I won't be shocked if we have issues in Seattle. Oh well. It is what it is.

My sister and BIL had planned to drive from SE Michigan to Milwaukee. Sister is planning to come tomorrow. BIL works for one of the major electric companies as a supervisors to the crews who restore power and they're telling him to prepare for filed work so he's scheduled for a 16 hour day Friday. I work at a hospital in Chicago and they canceled all Friday clinics because the forecast is that bad there.
60+ hours below freezing here in North Georgia with our coldest temps in 5+ years. I realize this isn't a big deal for some parts of the country, but it is not common at all here. Thankfully the precipitation moves out before the Artic blast moves in.
I took Thursday off to wrap every single present, do some cleaning and hopefully have ONE HOUR to myself amidst all the madness of this month. I cannot have my children home. Sob.

Fingers crossed for you! Problem in Seattle is space. There just isn’t enough space for the planes to allow them to deice. Unfortunately tomorrow we aren’t getting above freezing. I know quite a few airlines are already cancelling flights.

Luckily it was much better than expected! We are about to board out 2nd flight and it's 15 minutes late but not icy or anything.
