I would like to update our mud room. I’d love to incorporate a step in rinse off/shower area for our dog. The plumbing is already there so it would be easy. The problem is I don’t want to lose our utility sink. I use it often. Is there any way to combine the two? It’s a rather narrow space with no room for expansion or having both side by side.
ETA: This is what I want for the dog. I'd like some sort of tub for soaking, cleaning paintbrushes, filling and rinsing dirty things etc.
Ok douche, go ahead and call it mud. My husband DID have halitosis. We addressed it after I talked to you girls on here and guess what? Years later, no problem. Mofongo, you're a cunt. Eat shit. ~anonnamus
That looks like a very small spot to make it multi-functional. It seems like even if you did a very small... something in the corner that could rinse out paintbrushes, etc, it would make it difficult to fit an 80 pound dog inside.
The only thing I can see is that you could maybe put the doggie shower all along that side wall (would need to move the air vent) and then have the utility sink inside of it, basically where it is now - but then you'd have to step into the doggie shower to use the sink.
Could you extend that area out (toward the camera holder in the picture of your sink), have the sink stay elevated, add a sprayer function to it and have the step in/tiled area along the wall? You'd have to step into it to face/use the sink, but otherwise that might work.
This is a smart way to save space and have both a dog wash station and a sink, but seems like it may be too small with a dog your size given the space you have available.

Would your dog fit in there if you redesigned/tiled it to be a doggie shower stall like the ones pictured?
If so, you could put a mesh or slotted shelf above it (something that can withstand getting wet) where you store a literal tub/bin/bucket. upside down and empty to dry when not in use, but you can flip it over and fill with water from the shower head when you need to let something soak or rinse paint brushes in it. Something with a pour spout on one side that you could tip towards the tile back wall when emptying it so the water runs down. When it isn't too heavy you just empty it below.
As a bonus, the mesh shelf can act as a drying rack for odd things and maybe even somewhere you can hang dry clothes (if the mesh/slots accommodate a hanger top)
Yeah. He fits there, but if you need to get in there to clean him at all, it would be really uncomfortable squeeze. How far is the sink from the door outside?

It's a little over 6 feet from the middle of the sink to the garage wall (it goes sink/washer/dryer/wall) and the water source for the garage and hose is right there on the other side of the wall. Hypothetically we could put a basin right there in the garage to use as a utility sink leaving the mud room sink to be a rinse off area alone. My main complaint with that sink I have now is that it's small and nice-ish. The previous owners replaced the utility sink with that HD special and it's not very practical. I'd love one of those big plastic tub sinks for messy things.
It doesn't look like you have enough room unless you move your washer/ dryer. However, do you use the actual sink to soak things or just use the faucet? If you mostly just use the faucet then you can probably skip the sink, and just aim for the faucet to be in a more convenient location. Or use a bucket under the faucet to soak laundry if the bucket and dog both still fit.

We just got the washer and it's old school so I can finally soak in the bin itself, so I don't need the sink for that anymore! I mostly use it for painting supplies, filling my watering can (with plant food chemicals) and letting nasty sit/drain until I can move them to the washer
Could you do a sunken base that could be plugged - like a tub?
You could build it out (towards you in that photo). Yes, it would be tight, but manageable
This is my only other suggestion, but I feel like if you are using it to also soak laundry and wash the dog, then it would have to be cleaned after each dog wash or else you are just getting dog hair in all your laundry (or anything else you soak).

I don’t think I’m going to articulate this idea well, but can you size the tub for the dog, while positioning the faucets such that you can easily position a removable dishpan/bucket/container of some sort under them? I’m envisioning separate bowls/containers for maybe, paint, laundry, and food. Maybe raise the bottom a small corner of the tub area so the “dishpans” are at a comfortable height for working?

If adding a dog washing station to garage is possible, that sounds like your best bet!

Oooo. I have a better version of this. Still a "shower below, tub up top" vision. But instead of a shelf you rest the tub on, something with slots on the side that holds a washing bin/tub you can slide in a and out. (Like an Elfa system bin, but solid). Still using the shower head to fill it. But when you wash the dog, you take it out completely so you have space to work and it's still positioned at a good height when in use.
