Haha that's so funny! Same here. H likes to read CNN during lunch and he's always annoyed I know about major news stories before him because they're posted here.
I think it's definitely a thing more places should be thinking about & planning but this definitely seems to need more planning despite dire, immediate need.
I would love to see a city holistically built around planet & people, though. This could be an amazing opportunity to show the world what countries can do (and a developing one!) but I'm concerned it's going to fall flat & then be a shining example that every climate denier hold up & says "See? It didn't work/was too expensive/is complete failure."
That said, I feel for the woman in the article. I grew up in a place that will be underwater likely in my children's lifetimes. I have many fond memories & it's difficult to see a place so beloved change so much. I moved away b/c I wanted to & it's even still hard to accept to let the place go.
Ha! Vindicated. And I, too, learn most everything here. Although, given that I was in the region, I quite possibly heard about it before that post. A rarity since the country I was in is proudly ignorant of politics.
I am considering a trip to Indonesia, not Jakarta, very soon. From my research, not a single thing has been mentioned about this. I think it's more bluster than reality. But good on them for at least stating this concern!
