The lead teacher wasn't in yet when I dropped DS off, but told the aide and the front desk about yesterday. Both were apologetic and of course had no idea this happened.
I unwrapped the granola bar for him and put it in a baggie just to be on the safe side.
I'm going on my first weekend away with a man that isn't my husband. I'm insanely anxious about it - not the being together. I love being with this man and honestly ending dates is the hardest as we don't want them to end.
My talk went well yesterday! I gave out copies of my book and turnout wasn’t huge (which I didn’t expect for 5:30 on a Monday) but everyone was super engaged and interested. What a weight lifted to have that over!
In even better news, escalating to the state’s attorney’s consumer help center (thanks to advice here) got me assigned a woman who swears she will take care of the bizarre issue of my mother’s name being on the XFINITY bills for an account opened after her death. Fingers crossed she does something, she said she is legally obligated to solve the problem since it was assigned to her so…
DD had a huge argument with her friend group yesterday and they "kicked" her out. I think she was most upset that her "BFF" sided with them at the time. They were all going to the school counselor today to work it out.
Seeing her sobbing and upset that 'everyone hates her' was just heartbreaking. Middle school is so rough.
calamity, there has literally been nothing in my 45 years to date as difficult as middle school was for me. It is just such a shitty time. Hugs to your sweet girl.
tacokick I missed that you wrote a book! Is it on fiber arts? That’s so exciting!
I am at the ER with my son. Day five of a fever and it was just under 105 today. His doctor noticed some skin mottling and sent us in. I just want to know what’s wrong and get him better!

This is one of the hardest parts of parenting! My 10 year has been experiencing this a lot this year and it's really hard to step back and let them figure it out or move on from the friendship.

Thank you <3
The only good thing out of the story was that her brother (14) saw her crying in the hallway and ditched his friends to check on her. When she said she got in a fight with her friends he asked, "Well, did you win? Did ya beat them up?"
Boys just think so differently! It melted my heart that he checked up on her, and he said last night he would tell them off for her if she wanted LOL
(( calamity ,)) hugs to your DD. How old is she? This happened to me in middle school and it was awful. I ended up in a much better friend group after that, so it was for the best but man it hurt. The group that dropped me was drama filled all through MS and HS while my new group was good people and I'm still friends with some now. But I'm scared for middle school for my girls.
I logged on this AM to an invitation for a "check in" meeting with my VP (boss's boss). I was so nervous as I rarely talk to him and it is usually not good news when I do. It was fine, he mostly talked at me socially for 20 mins telling me about his kids and travels. Apparently our dept scored very poorly on the engagement survey so I think he's checking a box by talking with me. Honestly, it was worse than no check in. He didn't really ask anything about me or how I'm doing so yeah, that doesn't make me feel valued as an employee or a person.

Anyone impacted by the Quebec wildfires? Our air quality is horrible and the sky is yellow, its just eerie today (we're about 6? hours away). Wildfires aren't typical near us, so its shocking how far it can spread. Hope they are able to control them soon, and people are safe.
It seemed like a nice group, but there has been some drama with them talking about each other behind their backs. I had a hunch it would blow up and I talked to my DD about taking accountability for her part of it. At one point it was 4 on 1 telling her they hate her and that she's a bad person. At least there are only 10 days of school left.

Not sure if it is from Quebec, but we have hazy skies and orange sun here in MA. It's freaky. We've had it off and on from fires in Nova Scotia lately. My weather app said we have poor air quality too whereas previously we've had haze but it was so high in the atmosphere it wasn't affecting air quality.
I really dislike the orange tint to the light. It gives me anxiety since it feels so unnatural. I grew up here and I never remember this being a thing until a few years ago. It's scary that wildfires have gotten so much worse.

When I coached cheer for that age group, I had a little intervention for them. I told them, listen, I get that you’re all figuring out your places in the social hierarchy. But you are all terrible at talking to and about each other, so let’s work on that. Seemed like it helped- I got a couple of older girls to help me out with it.

Didn't realize they had fires in Nova Scotia too, but its really freaky. We had all school activities cancelled, no outside recess/PE today and supposed to be worse tomorrow. The smell of smoke is so strong, had no clue the smell could travel so far.
I keep seeing the Lululemon belt bags on everyone and it makes me want one, despite knowing deep in my heart that even wearing it as a cross-body bag will be unflattering on me. I'm also kicking myself because I only want it in neon yellow, which of course isn't a current color. (I almost bought it when it was a current color, but talked myself out of it bc I know it would be impractical, so, like double bonus for being smart-dumb.) I found one on Posh but refuse to spend $90 on it.
noodleoo Where in MA are you? We are on the eastern side about 15 mins from NH and the sky looks clear, but my parents are 3 hours south of us in CT and have had hazey skies for days....so weird!
I'm irritated. We're supposed to travel to DE early tomorrow evening for my great aunt's memorial service Thursday AM. Discovered over the weekend that we have a nail in one of our tires in our SUV (the hole could not be plugged, apparently it has been several times already). We needed new tires soon anyway, so fine, replace all 4. Walmart had to order them though, and we can't get them put on until tomorrow AM now since they just came in, and it's first come, first served. So I'm just annoyed that we couldn't have gotten this done earlier and now I have to stress about whether we'll leave on time. I am sure that between 7am and 3pm (the time we wanted to leave) they'll be able to get tires on it, but my brain is not always rational. We have another vehicle but its an 06 Toyota that I really don't like to take anywhere long distance. I guess if we couldn't go it's fine, but then I'd be out hotel room money.
I cannot fucking wait until my H is done with his half Ironman. I'm so tired of talking about his workout schedules and hearing about his plans, and planning our social life around his 50 mile bike rides and shit. OMG.

I'm not noodle but I'm in Somerville and its definitely hazy / smoky here. I was all WTF when I went for my run earlier and then googled when I got back and saw that it's from the wildfires.

128 belt, so closer to Boston than you maybe? Weather station says it is supposed to clear out for tomorrow so maybe it's passed already for you? It is going to move West.
cereal K , I can't decide if I want a belt bag or not. In theory it seems like a great idea to stash a phone/wallet for quick trips. In practice, I always carry way more stuff than that. But *everyone* has them around me and I feel like should get one. I didn't know the colors get discontinued. There's a rainbow one out now that I really like and I should probably just buy it so I don't regret it.

For sure - I carry a tote for everyday, but feel like a smaller bag for quick trips or places where I don't want a giant bag would be nice. And these are soooooo trendy, but as an Apple Shape, I'm 99% sure there's no good way for me to wear it well. The regular price isn't awful, especially when I see what resale prices are, so yeah - if you like the rainbow one, go for it!

I hope your son is okay and that fever goes down. That sounds scary!
It’s just a little local food and history book. I wish it was fiber arts! Maybe that’s next?

I'm in SE MA and it's orang-ey here and the sun was bright red this morning. My 2 friends are flying in from CA tomorrow and they're like wtf this is usually our air, not yours!
Speaking of that, I had bowed out of my annual girl's trip to Ptown this weekend because of how close to our move date it is, and I've been so salty about it. The other day I decided that the packing is not that bad because we did a big purge when we put the house on the market, and I announced to H that I was going to go for one night. My 5 friends were SO excited that I'm coming and so am I. They rented the house from Fri-Mon so I'll just be going on Friday and coming home Saturday. I'm going to drive instead of taking the ferry to save some time even though it will be 2.5 hours each way. Sadly, I won't have my custom matching tank top with them this year since it's too late to make one, but I'll wear the one from last summer since the gist is the same, it will just say 2022.

I know I'm a broken record here, but has anyone had someone go to Marine Corp boot camp? My son called us just before 1am this morning and read his script telling us that he was there. He seemed panicked and almost hysterical. There were sounds of chaos in the background. I didn't get to reply. It was 12 seconds total. I sobbed hysterically for an hour afterwards. It's not about me, and I know this is normal. But I tell you what, I started looking online right away for flights to San Diego to go rescue him. We will get a letter in 2-3 weeks, but no phone call until he's about to graduate in September sometime (assuming no delays). Hate.

I'm in Easton on the south shore and just went to pick DS up and it's definitely hazy and smoky here. I had run out to grab a coffee earlier and it wasn't this bad.

Middle school is truly hell. My youngest is finishing 5th grade this week and I’m not ready for middle school drama again. Your poor dd, that’s so hard 😢

georgeharrison, My brother was a Marine. I don't remember much about his first phone call but I know the first couple of days were wild and a ton of people basically quit on the spot. He was a high-school pot head and not super motivated, but he didn't quit, made it through, and served several years... before finally getting discharged for smoking more pot lol. At any rate, if you don't hear that's he has quit immediately, he'll make it through!
