Friday: PT in the morning Sat.: Supported 2 teammates and one of their husbands at the new mountain bike park in north east Georgia. It was a lot of fun! I even got to ride the shuttle a few times with them (free-they had to pay since it hauls your bikes to the top of the hills). I made sure they had water and such. We had a nice picnic lunch in between their enduro mountain biking downhill runs. Sunday: Wandered around Target, Walmart, TJ Maxx, and the supermarket. Monday (planned): PT exercises and PT approved exercises
BQ: Yes, my company has Juneteenth off as federal holiday. I haven't really planned anything other than to reflect on what the holiday is about.
BQ: Did you do anything for Juneteenth? Do you get the day off from work?
I did a thing! I had my first official DNF.
Showed up to an Olympic tri with absolutely zero training at ALL. I've been running maybe 3 times a month, swam twice so far since it got warm enough to get in the water. Biked once a few weeks ago. I came into T1 and T2 just ahead of my mom, and then she passed me in T2 (she rides on flats for races these days, so she's super speedy in transition with no shoe change) and when I caught up to her she was walking and struggling with a cramp. So I decided to just stick with her. We walked most of the run, and came in 10 minutes over the total cutoff. womp womp.
So, officially a DNF. But unofficially, we did it! and it was ridiculous amount of fun to do the whole race with her like that. The swim we're just really close in pace so we came out together, the bike she passed me in the first mile with a bunch of turns because she has better bike handling than I do, then I passed her about 4 miles in while I was still feeling peppy, but then she passed me again in the back half after my total and complete lack of bike training caught up to me and my bike started to feel like a torture instrument. And then we mostly walked the run with the occasional short jog interval and finished side by side. So that's a workout! I did a workout! Now to ACTUALLY TRAIN for the next race I'm signed up for instead of this thing where I just rely on muscle memory...
Nothing special for juneteenth. I worked, but most of our clients were closed so it was quiet. I did intentionally decide to spend some money buying books from black authors though. that was fun. Got the latest N.K. Jemisin and pre-ordered nerdy engineering book. Feel good win win.
