DD1 will be 12 next week. This year she developed boobs. Biggish boobs. She's a 30C. She has to be on birth control to regulate her periods and I saw some growth in February, when she started these meds. Her diet could be better too....she eats a lot of carbs and less veggies and fruit than she should. So diet could be a culprit. Her BMI is great and she's pretty active. I developed early. I was her size by fourth grade, so I'm seeing genetics as a huge factor too. If genetics plays into it further, she's going to stop the growing quite soon. I'm 5'4, 120 pounds and have been very average in this department since high school. Hence, the other girls will catch up and many will surpass her in the next couple of years. That being said, she wants to fix the problem of big boobs now. My verbal reassurances are not helping. I know there's not much I can do.... I'm going to ask her doctor about switching hormone supplements to see if her size might decrease slightly. WPs: Do any of you have suggestions for how to emotionally support her? She's extremely self conscious and hates being different. Any books or other resources? Also, are there any bathing suit brands and/or sports bras that you recommend for holding her in? Thanks!!
I don't have a lot to offer for advice - I had like no boobs until after I had kids. But I *think* Athleta might have good supportive swimsuits that aren't mom-ish? I'm not sure, but I think I've heard that. Lands End stuff is supportive, but can be a bit frumpy.
I think this unfortunately is just one of those times when you’ll have to help her love her body as it is. I would add this is far more likely hormones and genetics than diet or weight. I didn’t get boobs until I went on birth control in college, so birth control very well could be the culprit here. But switching birth control isn’t likely to make them smaller, it just might help with future growth.
I have good luck with bras at Kohl’s and at Dillard’s. And frankly Target for sports bras.
Also, getting a good fit is key. Dillard’s near me has fitters who will help. I find that sports bras, even those that squish me, tend to give the illusion of bigger boobs because there’s no split between your breasts with a sports bra.
I like running girl brand for myself and like that I can pick both by cup size and support level.
DD is 12 and is moving into a 32B. She has moved into the women's section to buy bras and sports bras. She says that the girls section doesn't give her any support. She also prefers something with a little padding as her breast are not even in size and the padding helps at gymnastics when she falls flat on her chest.
There are 6 girls at gymnastics all the same age within a few months and their growth and development is all over the place. DD's biggest body issues right now is that she is tall and super thin while everyone else is getting curves and look like a young women. Then her other friend looks like she is a 2nd grader so it really pretty crazy.

I was a DD in 5th grade so I sympathize. I don’t think there is much to be done but share your own experiences (I was teased by boys but when I complained my friends were all “but I want boobs! so it helped when my mom told her stories of times she was teased).
my daughter inherited her father’s family’s pear shaped figure so my advice is more from my own shopping experience than hers.
Knix makes good bras if she wants to go wireless. Their wireless bras are the only ones I find remotely supportive and they come in lots of fun colors. I like Wacoal’a minimizers but they’re not especially cute. Comfy tho and look nice under tshirts. Panache makes a great wired sports bra (I think the wireless one doesn’t give enough definition). I’ve also heard great things about UnderArmour sports bras.
As far as bathing suits, if she likes one pieces a good Speedo tank suit is great for actual swimming, TRX or Sporti are also good brands. Check out SwimOutlet. A cross back will help keep her secure and contained. Bare Necessities is a great site for bra-sized swim wear as well and allows you to purchase tops and bottoms separately if she’d rather wear a bikini or tankini.
Thank you, everyone! DD saw some running girl bras online and seems encouraged by them. She ordered a few. She also found a few minimizer swimsuit tops for her camps this summer. Fingers crossed.
Update: for those who may need this too, Lululemon bras (size 2) have put a smile on her face. They hold her in, are comfortable and don't have the stupid thick removable padding other sports bras have. $110 for two bras, but I will pay for this satisfaction, thank you!
