We have a work email system with separate bulletin boards for group work messages, system wide announcements, and semi-personal stuff (like selling tickets, fund raisers, etc). People do that all the time, sometimes revealing personal information and generally sounding dumb.
I din't always look to see if it had been a group text and have responded to the whole group. I hate that the iPhone default is to respond back to the group.
I think this depends on what version of the iPhone you have. I have an iPhone. I do not have this option. I have no idea how to make this option appear. I don't think it exists on my phone (3GS)
Sometimes my sister sends me a text with a picture of my niece, and I get a million texts back from other people, so I guess she group texted, but there's no way for me to tell by looking at the text whether my sister sent the text to more than one person. It took me a couple months to figure out what was going on - I was just getting random "so cute!" texts from unknown numbers, and had no idea where the hell they were coming from.
I also have no idea what happens when I reply to someone who sent a group text, ie I don't know if it goes just to her or to everyone on her group text list. It's something I've always wondered about.
Mine comes as a picture message instead of a regular text. That is how I know.
Now I am going to have to check this out. I don't have pic messaging in my plan and get annoyed at my friend who always sends text messages in pic format. Maybe those are group texts?

I have stopped sending group texts with pictures of my DD to both of my parents for fear that their SO's will see a response from the other and freak the fuck out! They've been divorced for over 20 years and their SO's still have an issue with them speaking to each other.
I don't know why people even use group texts unless they want to actually have a group conversation where everyone sees all the responses. My phone asks if I want to send as a group text or multiple individual texts whenever I choose more than one recipient. Does everyone not have that option?

I don't think my phone gives me that option, but I can't remember the last time I sent a group text. I'm always on the receiving end, but I have no way of knowing whether the text I've received went to a group or just to me.

I downloaded a mass text messaging app that I used when DS was born. It's still a PITA because you still have to change your phones text messaging settings prior to sending. (iPhone 4s)
