Poor Jana. She is what, in her early 20s? I wonder if she feels like an old maid already, seeing as how Josh already has two kids and she is only a year or two younger than him.

I'm not Katie, but it is indeed. It's where they send the kids who start having rebellion in their hearts.
Edit: It's called IBLP. Institute for Basic Life Principles. You'll hear echoes of it in Michele's speak, when she uses purpose as a verb, and, of course, principles.
Also? That was the most awkward dad hug in the history of hugs. They would be horrified by the huge bear hugs my dad gives me! NIKE

Haven't we discussed before something about it's hard to find other families that hold their beliefs and have the money to care for the girls like JB can? Or something like that? They're fundie "royalty" and while the boys can marry down (Josh to Anna), the girls should marry equal or higher in terms of fundie royal families.
Someone with more knowledge, would it be unheard of for a younger brother to be married off before an older sister?

A younger brother can be married off. That episode with John David showing how he can clear land and use tools was clearly an ad for him. As was this one with Jana.
This really has to be some of the most boring tv around. If Michelle doesn't end up knocked up soon, or there's no impending wedding, I sense a cancellation.
they expect their sons to be completely independent and start their own businesses so they can support a family on their own.
for the daughters they will pay for some college courses, a car, etc. until they find a man
but I don't think they are really actively looking for husbands for their girls, the options are probably limited and I think they definitely like having them at home to help raise the brood.
also the bike riding episode? That was the in town I went to college in just down the road from the Duggars, they didn't have the crazy bikes back then though. There is a perfectly respectable Christian college there but I'm sure it's too "worldly" for the Duggars since the girls can wear pants, and SHORTS

This exactly. Also the part about not wanting them to marry down. I need to catch up on the latest episode.

I had read about Jana being sent to brainwashing camp. This is where Joshie was sent after his "sin in the camp" incident (and they shaved his head also). Hope they don't shave Jana's head; they believe a woman's hair is her crowning glory. Whatever that means. It's bad to cut it. Anyway, I didn't watch the show, but am curious if they made it out like this was her choice. Because from what I've read, it def wasn't.
There was a thread on Free Jinger a little while back about how boys can marry down but women can't. That's the current prevailing belief as to why the oldest Duggar girls aren't married off yet.

Ok I found this: "The eldest four girls all went together but then Jana had to go back there alone. Apparently she was feeling 'resentment towards other family members' and 'had a prideful heart'."
I'm pretty sure I would resent raising my dad's penis trophies too, especially if I had to do it while wearing a frumper.
I saw and snippet! I'm glad I caught the camp moment too.
I'm certain one of the younger daughters will rebel. They are seeing what is happening to Jana and what road lies ahead for them on their current path. The one girl with the braces is smart as crap and Jinger has a self-preserving attitude that will carry her through. I can't imagine them all getting married off easily and quickly to whom the parents wish.
Can we talk further about potential husbands? The Bates boys are off the table?
I thought they would go to those conventions to meet others in their cult to marry their kids too - do they still go to those?

Ok Copz I will start!!! What happens if god forbid Michelle becomes seriously injured or worse as a result from pregnancy complications? What will that do to her children? It will damage them in many ways including damage their faith.

I don't think there's a Bates boy who would be able to. I might be totally misremembering but I think most of their oldest kids are also girls, and the one older boy is already in a courtship, if he hasn't gotten married already. Katie, where did you read the bit about Jana being resentful? I've noticed on more than one occasion when describing her kids, Michelle calls Jana "strong-willed" and I have a feeling that's code for "we have GOT to get this bitch on lockdown before she runs off with a non-Gothardite!"

I think it's interesting that Anna's sister has left the cult. I hope she can set a good, happy example for the younger Duggar girls.
Zach Bates is probs off the table since he had a recent public failed courtship. He gave a piece of his heart away, so he's damaged goods. I think the next Bates boy is too young (Nathan). I always thought JD could end up with someone homely but nice, like Michaela Bates. Erin thinks too much of herself and I think they're saving her for someone even better than a Duggar.
It seems like the more "royal" a woman's father is in this cult, the harder it is to marry her off (see: Botkin sisters).
